May The Joy Of Easter Be With You

Dear Marriage Supporter — As we reflect on the meaning and import of Holy Week, it's tempting to think in historical terms, as amazing events long since passed. But what we celebrate at this time of year is not merely an ancient memory from long ago, but times that present parallels to modern circumstances today, and that offer the promise of an incredible future.

In the run up to Holy Week on Palm Sunday, we experience Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, with adoring fans lining the streets, waving palms, welcoming this great Son of God who has worked miracles, cured the sick and infirm, breathed new life into the dead, forgiven sins and fulfilled scripture. If they had public opinion polls back then, Christ's popularity would have been off the charts positive.

But within days, these same people who greeted his triumphant entrance turned on him, becoming a murderous mob that ended up preferring the criminal Barabbas to Jesus. He celebrated his last supper on earth with his disciples, knowing that he would be betrayed, and prepared himself for his barbaric crucifixion and death today, Good Friday.

How quickly they turned on him.

I can imagine how Jesus must have felt, having experienced on a far lesser scale a seeming seismic shift in public opinion (at least according to the media) in the object of much of my work, the preservation of marriage..

No doubt the Sanhedrin thought that Christ's death on a cross would be the end of things. But it wasn't. That next Sunday he rose from the dead, his burial clothes folded neatly in the tomb. Later he presented himself to his disciples, the holes in his hands and side quite visible, powerful proof of his resurrection.

Still, even with all they had seen and experienced being in Christ's presence – the miracles, the crowds, the supernatural appearances of the angels and the Prophets -- the Apostles still struggled to undertake the ministry that Jesus had called on them to lead in his name. It would take the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost Sunday to transform the Apostles from observers to evangelists, and to spread the growth of Christianity to the four corner of the globe.

On Sunday, we celebrate the most consequential day in the history of the world, the day when the promise of the Bible is fulfilled, the day when death is overcome, the day when Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

I can't help but feel the parallels between what happened during Christ's time on earth and some of our own experiences in recent times, including in the struggle to preserve, protect and promote marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

We've seen marriage be considered invincible one day, and then in a blink of an eye seen it redefined and defiled. We've seen the principle of traditional marriage be betrayed by people who swore to voters they would protect it. We've seen some people abandon the fight, whether out of fear or seeing many who remained vigilant punished and persecuted. And we've seen constitutionally-guaranteed rights such as the right to religious liberty be superseded by invented concepts that not only are not rights, they also are not right.

It can be disheartening at times, but we at NOM have not lost faith. You see, we've read the book and we know who wins in the end. We also know that the truth of marriage is universal and timeless, written on the human heart by our Creator at the beginning of time. Marriage cannot be changed, and the truth of marriage cannot be redefined or eradicated.

Marriage is the union of one man and one woman. That's what the thing is, always has been and always will be. It is a profound good, and the most important human relationship ever created. It's the basis of families, and the foundation for raising children.

I know that true marriage will rise again. I think it will happen fairly soon, because it's impossible to maintain the lie of same-sex 'marriage' forever. But whether it takes two years or two decades, NOM is determined to fight every day for the truth of marriage and for the good that it provides for families and children.

We are grateful to count you as a true friend, and a trusted ally. Like the Apostles during the early church, your faithfulness to the truth of marriage sends a powerful message to the world that this timeless relationship reserved for a man and a woman will triumph.

May the joy and hope of Easter be with you. Thank you for all you've done for us, and for God's institution of marriage.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

We Are Determined To Stop Her

Dear Marriage Supporter — By now you've probably heard of President Trump's disturbing decision to nominate Chai Feldblum, a radical LGBT extremist, to a critically important civil rights post as a Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. This job puts her in the position of shaping federal law to make supreme LGBT claims and to punish Christians and other people of faith who do not want to personally be involved in affirming the gay agenda, such as same-sex 'marriage.' That is exactly what she wants to do.

Feldman is an avowed lesbian who firmly believes that there is no situation where the constitutionally-guaranteed right of religious liberty would prevail in a legal case where Christians are in a conflict with the interests of gay or lesbian individuals. She's openly questioned whether marriage is even necessary in modern society and she's said that it is essential that the law be used aggressively to affirm the "dignity" of gays and lesbians when Christians refuse to support them.

Help Us Stop This Dangerous LGBT Nominee

While we appreciate President Trump's work to support religious liberty in other contexts, his nomination of this radical lesbian activist will cause real and lasting damage to people of faith who want nothing more than to be left alone by gay activists so that they can live out their religious beliefs about marriage and other issues in peace in their private lives and at work.

We are all-in to prevent the confirmation of Chai Feldblum to the EEOC.

Whether President Trump comes to his senses and withdraws this incredibly divisive nomination, or whether the Senate simply refuses to go along, we have to do everything possible to ensure that Ms. Feldblum is not in a position to bend the law in favor of gays and lesbians and against people of faith.

Our ability to stop the nomination of Chai Feldblum depends on the response we receive from you and other loyal supporters of NOM. Already, thousands of people have signed our petition opposing this nomination. That gives us a great start in this campaign to stop her, but in order to win we need to raise substantial funds and expand opposition to the nomination. Will you help us with an emergency financial contribution? Your gift of $15, $25, $50, $100, or $250 or more will be put to immediate use fighting the confirmation of this dangerous nominee.

Our team is hard at work during this Holy Week to prepare for a major push to derail the Feldblum nomination. The US Senate is on recess until April 6th, and we need to be ready to roll as soon as they get back to the Capitol. We’re working on several cutting-edge grassroots and engagement programs and are excited to launch our coming campaign to derail the Feldblum nomination.

Please consider a sacrificial gift to help us go all-in to stop this radical lesbian activist from being able to shape federal law to punish Christians and people of faith.

We did not budget for this kind of fight against the Trump administration and the liberal Democrats in the Senate who will be pushing for Chai Feldblum's confirmation. That means we are scrambling now to secure the resources we need to win. Your donation of $15, $25, $50, $100, or $250 or more is urgently needed today. Please prayerfully consider what you can afford to give at this critical time.

Thank you for your help in standing up for the rights of Christians and others who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We are in a tough fight, and we will appreciate your prayers and support.

Faithfully,

Sen. Mike Lee Introduces First Amendment Defense Act

I am pleased to share some very good news: Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has officially introduced the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), critical legislation to protect supporters of marriage, including individuals and organizations, from being discriminated against by the federal government because of their beliefs about marriage.

We commend Senator Lee for his leadership and commitment to protecting the rights of Americans to stand for the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Don and Ellen Vander Boom know all too well about the risk of speaking out in support of marriage. Devout Christians, the couple have dedicated everything they do to the glory of God, including their business. They operate a family-owned wholesale beef packing plant in western Michigan. After the Supreme Court issued their illegitimate ruling redefining marriage, Don noticed some material in the break room speaking out in favor of gay 'marriage.' He wanted employees to have access to both sides of the issue, so he placed an article that discussed the Christian belief that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.

To the couple's shock, USDA inspectors entered the break room and saw the pro-marriage article, and then declared that the business owners were in violation of USDA anti-discrimination policies on the basis of sexual orientation. The officials told Don that unless he removed the article, the USDA would remove inspectors from the plant. Since meatpacking firms cannot operate in the absence of USDA inspectors on the premises, this threat effectively promised a death sentence for their business.

Help us Support FADA

The passage of FADA would help people like Don and Ellen Vander Boom by preventing government officials from targeting them for harassment and punishment over their views about marriage. The Vander Boom's had no choice but to agree to the USDA's demands, and they removed the pro-marriage material from the break room. But then they did something that many others would not have done: they filed an official complaint with USDA senior officials in Washington.

President Trump has done a lot to protect the religious liberty rights of people to continue to support traditional marriage. Thankfully, after taking office the Trump team at USDA announced that they would never take adverse action against someone because they exercised their religious liberty rights to express their views about marriage.

This action by President Trump's leadership at USDA is gratifying. Presumably other federal agencies and departments will follow suit. But the truth is that these statements do not have the force of law, and that is why FADA is so important. God forbid, someone like Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton who will aggressively advance the agenda of LGBT extremists to punish marriage supporters is elected President in the future. We cannot risk what might amount to open season on marriage supporters in that type of administration.

We are going to make a major push for Congress to pass the First Amendment Defense Act. I'm asking you to do two things right now to help:

  1. First, please contact your US Senators and ask them to become co-sponsors of Sen. Lee's legislation. The more Senators who sign on to support this proposal the better its chances of passage will be.

  2. Second, please make a financial contribution to NOM today so that we have the funds we need to push for the enactment of FADA.

Our 2018 Strategic Plan has prioritized the protection of marriage supporters as one of our top objectives. We've already taken two major steps toward achieving our goal. The directive by President Trump's Department of Justice to all federal agencies and departments that they should protect religious liberty to the maximum extent is a tremendous accomplishment. We also have filed a critical legal brief before the US Supreme Court in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case that has the potential of protecting marriage supporters in every state in the country.

Now we need to take the next step by making sure that FADA is passed. Will you help?

One of the most impactful things you can do to stand up for the rights of marriage supporters is to become a Sustaining Member of NOM. Sustaining Members help ensure that our financial footing is solid, giving us the ability to aggressively fight for FADA.

As a Sustaining Member, you pledge a monthly gift of any amount you decide (as little as $7 per month). It's easy and works transparently. You'll be notified when your pledge processes each month. Rest assured that you can change your instructions at any time.

No American should have to go through what Don and Ellen Vander Boom went through when their business was threatened with financial ruin because of their Christian beliefs about marriage. FADA will protect them, and all of us, from becoming the target of government officials and bureaucrats because we do what God calls us to do, live out the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman in our daily lives and at work.

We look forward to working with you to enact the First Amendment Defense Act into law.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

PS – Please act today to urge your US Senators to join Sen. Lee and become a co-sponsor of FADA. Thank you!

BREAKING...Trump Nominates Radical LGBT Extremist

It's being reported that President Donald Trump has nominated a radical LGBT extremist to a key civil rights post. Chai Feldblum is a prominent activist and avowed proponent of expansive special legal rights for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and the transgendered. Worse, she has repeatedly said that their rights take precedence over any religious liberty claims that Christians might assert. Her nomination to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a disaster that we must oppose.

Please Sign Our Petition Opposing The Nomination of A Radical LGBT Extremist to the EEOC

President Trump has done many good things to support religious liberty, but his nomination of Chai Feldblum to the EEOC is truly mind-boggling. A lesbian, Feldblum's views are so extreme that she is not even considered to be within the mainstream of liberals in the Democratic Party. For instance, Feldblum has questioned whether the institution of marriage needs to exist, and she has said that the government should recognize adults in polygamous and polyamorous relationships on the same basis as married couples.

I don't understand what's gotten into President Trump with this nomination. I wonder if it is more evidence of Ivanka and Jared's influence on him. Or maybe the White House is just being lazy because Feldblum was appointed to the EEOC previously by President Obama, so perhaps the White House thinks they can get away with her appointment again. Whatever the thinking behind nominating this radical extremist, however, we must do everything we can to oppose Feldblum's nomination. The EEOC is the federal agency charged with enforcing workplace anti-discrimination laws. As a Commissioner of the EEOC, Feldblum has the ability to engineer a radical shift in federal legal treatment of discrimination laws against Christians and other people faith, and to make supreme the "rights" of LGBT people.

Please sign our petition opposing the nomination of Chai Feldblum to the EEOC. We cannot have this kind of radical extremist in a position of power to shape America's civil rights laws.

I have enjoyed working with President Trump's administration on many things and do not relish opposing them now, but I am determined to do so in this instance. We cannot sit idly by and let an extreme radical like Chai Feldblum shape our nation's anti-discrimination laws to punish Christians and other people of faith who simply wish to be left alone to live out their views about marriage at work and in their daily lives.

The first step in derailing Feldblum's nomination is to sign our petition today. Please add your name to the petition right away, and then send it to every person you know who might sign it as well. Only by organizing a large group of Americans will we be able to exert enough pressure on Congress to reject this nomination, or convince President Trump to withdraw it.

We are in for a tough battle to stop Chai Feldblum's nomination to the EEOC. Please act today to help us by signing our petition. And if you can take an added step of making a financial contribution to NOM to help us spread the petition to more people, we would be grateful.

Please act today.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

Not married at all

As you may know, NOM is in the midst of a tough fight in Georgia where we are working alongside allies to urge the legislature to enact protections for faith-based adoption agencies so that they may continue to help Georgia children and families without violating their faith beliefs.

Our work there has generated some media buzz among LGBT activists, who complain that our push for the right of faith-based adoption agencies to adopt out children only to a married husband and wife is somehow discriminatory to gay couples. But we make no apology for fighting in Georgia and across the country so that children can experience the love of a mother and a father in their lives.

Help Us Fight To Protect Children

A prominent homosexual journalist, Michelangelo Signorile, recently wrote in the Huffington Post that NOM's work in Georgia is part of a nationwide plan we have to, "turn same-sex marriage into second-class marriage with a longer-term goal of overturning federal marriage rights for gays and lesbians entirely."

Signorile is exactly right that NOM's Strategic Plan includes a strong fight for the rights of religious adoption agencies to insist that adopted kids go to families where they will experience the love of a married mother and father. And he's also right that we are determined to restore true marriage to our nation's laws. But he's wrong about turning same-sex 'marriages' into second class marriage. That's because:

Same-sex 'marriages' are not marriages at all.

The fact of the matter is that marriage is intrinsically the union of one man and one woman. No matter what LGBT extremists, activist judges or the liberal media might say, that is what the institution is about. It's been that way since the beginning of time, because marriage is ordered toward the procreative act of creating children and then providing the ideal environment for them to thrive with the unique contributions to their wellbeing provided by both a mother and a father.

Help Us Restore Marriage To Our Laws

Many in the media foolishly dismiss the idea that we can restore traditional marriage to our laws. They figure that since the US Supreme Court did the unthinkable with their illegitimate, anti-constitutional ruling in the Obergefell case, that gay marriage is a done deal. But people who think through the issues more deeply realize that this situation is not permanently ensconced in our laws, and can be changed.

NOM is determined to do just that — to fight to restore marriage. We may be just a single Supreme Court justice away from being able to do so.

Will you help us in our quest to fight for traditional marriage being restored to our laws? Your gift of $15, $25, $35, $50, $100, or $250 or more will help us continue to make the case for marriage to be restored, as well as advocating for laws at the state and federal level that promote the importance of marriage, such as the faith-based adoption legislation we're backing in Georgia. Please act today with a generous contribution.

It's interesting to me that for a long time, many people on our side just assumed that we had won the battle to preserve marriage and they could focus on other things. After all, the federal Defense of Marriage Act had been enacted into law, and voters in dozens of states had put provisions into their state constitutions to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman

Conventional wisdom was that marriage was won.

But some LGBT activists did not accept conventional wisdom. They organized and fought, often behind the scenes and often in the face of criticism that they were wasting time and resources on a lost cause. That criticism continued until one day the cause was not lost when the Supreme Court ruled their way.

Now conventional wisdom is that traditional marriage has been lost and we just have to accept the idea of 'gay marriage.' But conventional wisdom is wrong. Marriage is not lost and the redefinition of marriage has not been permanently won.

NOM is the only organization in America intently focused with a central mission to restore marriage to our laws. But in order to do that, we need supporters who are willing to stand alongside us in this fight over the longer term. We call those people Sustaining Members.

Sustaining Members form the backbone of NOM because they provide financial support month in and month out. As a Sustaining Member, you decide what amount to contribute each month. Some people give as little as $7 monthly while others are able to contribute $100 or more per month. I hope you will consider becoming a Sustaining Member so that we can count on your ongoing support.

The Sustaining Member process is easy to set up and operates seamlessly and transparently. You'll be notified each month when your pledge processes, and you can change your pledge instructions at any time.

Whether you are able to make a one-time donation, or step up to become a Sustaining Member, I hope you will act today. We are hard at work in Georgia and other states, and at the federal level, to fight for the rights of people and groups to act in concert with their beliefs about marriage. We need, and would be very grateful to have, your support today.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

PS — Our petition in Georgia has generated thousands of contacts with policymakers there on behalf of allowing faith-based adoption agencies to serve the best interests of children by ensuring that they go to families where they will experience the love of a mother and a father. If you have not yet signed our petition, please do so now, and then share it with your friends and family. Thank you.

Oscars So Strange

Hollywood and the left were on full display last night at the 90th annual Academy Awards show. From beginning to end, it was a bizarre presentation, something that can only be described as unwatchable. It was a powerful reminder of how out of touch and disconnected Hollywood and the left are from mainstream America. They spent nearly four hours in primetime celebrating themselves and managed to make most of America — the people who buy movie tickets and finance the lavish lifestyles of the left's rich and pampered — feel marginalized.

Help Us Stand Up For Average Americans

After a year in which Hollywood's dark side of sexual violence and serial harassment finally emerged into full public view, they decided to showcase their wonderful and amazing diversity. Special presentations were aired featuring every manner of what Hollywood considers the oppressed - illegal immigrants; gays, lesbians and the transgendered; muslims and those who follow obscure religions; and of course women: women of color, immigrant women, 'trans women,' and women fighting for leftist social causes.

To put an exclamation point on how strongly Hollywood's newfound commitment to the plight of women is, Frances McDormand, sometimes rambling incoherently and looking homeless, called on all female nominees in the audience to stand. One can only presume that McDormand meant it as a show of strength and protest against Hollywood's culture of oppression against women. Unfortunately, she called on Meryl Streep to lead the women to their feet even though for decades Streep was Harvey Weinstein's chief promoter and defender. Then, at what could still have been a moment with some drama, instead of calling on the women to keep the #MeToo movement going, McDormand said that women need their projects to be financed. Huh? This of course was touted by the left as an amazing moment.

As much as I would like to just tune out the left and their idiotic sycophants in Hollywood, we can't afford to do that. Sadly, these people have a powerful influence in shaping the culture, and culture eventually has a powerful influence in shaping America's public policies and laws.

Help Us Fight Against Hollywood Values

Sometimes it feels as if we at NOM are facing a firehose of assaults from Hollywood and the left. We have to fight just to take a breath amidst the sheer onslaught of damaging ideas being advanced. But even though we can be consumed in defending against terrible proposals, we also have to devote considerable attention to advancing positive narratives about marriage and family, promoting the good of marriage, illuminating the beauty of mainstream religious practice and life, and the highlighting the immense and unique contributions that both genders make to human flourishing.

That is what NOM's First Freedom Initiative is designed to do. Through the First Freedom Initiative, we produce videos, design grassroots educational programs, conduct public speaking and informational tours, engage with people via social media, interact with young people on college campuses and advance public policies.

We would be grateful for your generous financial support so that we can continue to push back against the left and Hollywood's values. We are a lean and efficient organization and your contributions to us go a long way. For example, because of the incredibly talented members of our team, we can produce a professionally created and inspiring educational video for as little as $1,000. A $2,500 investment allows us to reach a huge audience with our content via social media. A $5,000 investment will allow us to mobilize tens of thousands of people to contact a policymaker's office.

We would be very grateful for your support in this fight. Please consider a gift today.

If you are able, may I ask you to also consider becoming a Sustaining Member of NOM. Sustaining Members help form the backbone of our organization by making a monthly contribution of any amount of their choosing, Knowing that we have a stable abuse of funding month in and month out.

To put things into perspective, a single studio-sponsored party after last night's unbearably bad Academy Awards celebration cost way more than NOM's entire budget for the year! That's what we are up against.

And yet, we are able to win critical battles and advance our cause because we have you, and we have truth, on our side.

Thank you for considering whether you can make a donation to help us continue to take on Hollywood and their dangerous agenda. I would be especially grateful if you can step up to become a Sustaining Member.

May God richly bless you for your love, friendship and support.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown
