Two days to close our budget gap

Dear Marriage Supporter — I apologize for interrupting your weekend, but we're in the final two days of our year-end $250,000 matching campaign. For the next two days, every donation we receive will double in size thanks to this match. Right now we are facing a budget gap of tens of thousands of dollars, so we really need to work hard over the next two days to close that gap.

Can you help us at this critical time?

If you have been considering becoming a Sustaining Member of NOM, there is simply no better time to do so than now.

As a Sustaining Member, you agree to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount, with a minimum donation of $7 per month. And the great news is that thanks to the special year-end matching gift opportunity that is underway, every new monthly pledge we receive will be matched not once but twelve times over! Your pledge of $15 per month, will result in NOM receiving $180 in matching funds – a twelvefold return!

Let's max out these last two days of the year. Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you so much.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

Four days to get this done

Dear Marriage Supporter — I know you are busy so I will cut to the chase: while NOM has had an extremely successful year, racking up a string of impressive victories, we are currently thousands of dollars short of what we need to raise to make our budget. I can't stand the thought of beginning the new year having to cut back on critical programs just as we're coming off so many impressive accomplishments. That's why I am turning to our best supporters including you during these final four days of the year to appeal for an urgently-needed financial contribution.

If history repeats itself, these next four days will be a make or break period for NOM. Thanks to the generosity of a group of strong supporters who have who have come together to offer a $250,000 year-end matching gift, everything we receive by midnight on 12/31 will be matched dollar for dollar. If you can contribute $15, we will receive $30 thanks to the match. A $25 donation will mean we get $50. Whatever amount you can donate will double. Can you help us at this critical time?

I know that many people have seen my emails about becoming a Sustaining Member of NOM for 2018. If you are thinking about that, there is simply no better time to pull the trigger than now.

As a Sustaining Member, you agree to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount, with a minimum donation of $7 per month. Because of this special year-end matching gift opportunity that is underway, every person who becomes a Sustaining Member by the end of the year will have their monthly pledge amount matched dollar for dollar for an entire year! Your pledge of $10 per month, will result in NOM receiving $120 in matching funds – a twelvefold return!

Becoming a Sustaining Member will make a huge difference in helping eliminate our current budget deficit because your pledge for the next year will be matched entirely (up to a total match of $250,000).

Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide in closing this year-end budget gap. We've only got four days left, and I am praying that all of our top supporters like you will help.

Faithfully,

We’ve got just four days to close our funding gap

Dear Marriage Supporter — I hope that you are able to take a little time off between Christmas and New Year's to enjoy some R&R with your family. I'm trying to do some of that myself, but I've got to also pay attention to the situation with NOM's finances. You see, we have a significant funding gap with only four days to fill it.

You've been one of our best supporters this year and I am very grateful for what you've been able to do. But I have to ask you to step up one last time to help us before time runs out.

You see, these next four days provide the best opportunity for us to hit our budget because we've been blessed by some generous donors who have who have come together to offer a $250,000 year-end matching gift. If you can contribute $20, we will receive $40 thanks to the match. A $25 donation will mean we get $50. Whatever amount you can donate will double. I hate to ask, but can you help us?

This year has been one of amazing accomplishment for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). I know you're familiar with our great victories in court, in the public schools, with the military and throughout the federal government with a government-wide directive on religious liberty. The appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the US Supreme Court was a game-changer, and our work to help confirm him will pay dividends for many years to come. Now we have the excitement of our major new initiative for 2018 – the First Freedom Initiative, which is garnering tremendous support across the country and among our allies. We can't wait to get working on that in January!

We've had incredible successes in every area of our work – public education, legal advocacy, and federal and state policy advancement. There's no question that the landscape is decidedly better today for traditional values than it was a year ago. I'm very proud of the role that NOM has played in that turn-around.

Your pledge of $10 per month, will result in NOM receiving $120 in matching funds — a twelvefold return!

Becoming a Sustaining Member will make a huge difference in helping eliminate our current budget deficit because your pledge for the next year will be matched entirely (up to a total match of $250,000).

Can you step up at this critical time to become a Sustaining Member?

Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for your support and for any assistance you can provide in closing this year-end budget gap.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

PS – If you haven't already, please watch our short video announcing the First Freedom Initiative, and check out our new FFI website. Then please step up with a financial contribution to help us close our current budget deficit so that we can start next year with a clean financial slate. Help Us Finish 2017 Strong

Dear Marriage Supporter — This year has been one of amazing accomplishment for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). We've had incredible successes in every area of our work – public education, legal advocacy, and federal and state policy advancement. The landscape is decidedly better today for traditional values, for families and for supporters of true marriage than it was a year ago. NOM has played a significant role in that turn-around.

But as we approach the last few days of 2017 we're staring at a budget deficit that must be addressed. Despite all that we’ve accomplished, we are tens of thousands of dollars short of where we need to be. Unless this deficit is erased, I'll have to cut back on our plans just as we've got real momentum.

Will you step up today with an emergency financial gift to help us erase our budget deficit? We'd be very grateful for whatever amount you might be able to give during this year-end push. Thanks to some generous donors who have come together to offer a $250,000 year-end matching gift, the good news is that whatever amount you donate now will be matched, dollar for dollar.

Just days before Christmas, we launched a major new program, the First Freedom Initiative. This new initiative will bring together all the major elements of our work: public education, grassroots engagement, judicial activism and policy advancement.

The First Freedom Initiative is the core element of NOM's 2018 Strategic Plan, and it is the latest accomplishment we have delivered for our supporters.

Our country's first freedom, of course, is the freedom to exercise religious beliefs at work, at home, and in our daily lives. For much of our existence as a country, the exercise of religious liberty was taken for granted. But in recent years, religious liberty has come under increasing attack. Support for traditional marriage, the right to life, adherence to the truth of natural gender, and other beliefs about human sexuality are said to be bigoted and discriminatory because they fail to salute contemporary elite opinion that there are no universal absolute truths, only individual expressions and understandings. Any expression of belief that conflicts with an individual's choices and assertions must be sacrificed. Thus, it is not enough that a gay couple can find countless bakers, photographers, florists and similar wedding professionals to help celebrate their 'wedding' the law must punish anyone who refuses to celebrate their unnatural relationship.

The First Freedom Initiative will contest this development, putting into focus for Americans the true nature of liberty and freedom and pointing them to concrete steps they can take to make the situation better. The launch of this major new initiative is just our latest accomplishment in a year filled with them. We've won major victories in the courts, in state legislative bodies and with the federal government advancing our agenda across all branches of government.

And while we are very proud of all that we’ve accomplished, and are very much looking forward to working on the First Freedom Initiative, we cannot ignore the elephant in the room that right now we are running a deficit of tens of thousands of dollars. It is imperative that this deficit be erased this week before the year comes to an end.

Please act today with a generous financial gift, knowing that it will double in size thanks to the year-end $250,000 matching gift opportunity that has been made available by a group of generous supporters.

Many people have asked me this year what the single best way they can help NOM financially. The answer is simple: to become a Sustaining Member of our organization.

As a Sustaining Member, you agree to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount, with a minimum donation of $7 per month. Some supporters contribute the minimum of $7, while others are able to give more. But because of this year-end matching gift opportunity that is underway, every person who becomes a Sustaining Member by the end of the year will have their monthly pledge amount matched dollar for dollar for an entire year! Your pledge of $10 per month, will result in NOM receiving $120 in matching funds – a twelvefold return!

Becoming a Sustaining Member will take twelve huge steps toward eliminating our current budget deficit because your pledge for the next year will be matched entirely (up to a total match of $250,000). Can you step up at this critical time to become a Sustaining Member?

I am so excited about what we've accomplished together in 2017, and am very excited about our new First Freedom Initiative that will be a major focus of our work in 2018. But before we can fully apply ourselves to future efforts it's imperative that we all make a sacrifice to eliminate our current budget deficit. Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for your support at this critical time.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

Announcing the First Freedom Initiative

Dear Marriage Supporter — I've got some very exciting news: Today we are launching a major new program to focus the American people on the issues we all care deeply about, and direct them toward workable actions to help resolve these issues: the First Freedom Initiative.

Please watch our short video introducing the First Freedom Initiative to Americans all over our incredible country. You can also check out our new website that has a great deal of information on it and gives you the opportunity to sign up to be part of this exciting new initiative.

America was founded on the premise of religious freedom. Those who risked their lives to come to this land did so to pursue this bulwark of freedom. Our nation's founders realized an eternal and extraordinarily important truth, that men and women are endowed with inalienable rights, rights that are not a gift from government or an entitlement from the state. They are an endowment from God, the creator of the universe and the source of what makes America exceptional among all the nations of the earth.

And our founders also realized something else: religious freedom is so central to our existence that it must be fought for and defended against those who would suppress it and ultimately seek to extinguish it.

For generations, Americans have insisted on their inherent right to believe in the God of the universe, to recognize eternal truths and to act on their religious beliefs at work and in their daily lives. Deeply-held religious beliefs are what inform our lives, and our nation. They validate eternal truths written on the human heart, illuminating right from wrong, good from evil. These religious beliefs are what command people to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the destitute, care for the weak and defend the oppressed.

This freedom of religion was at the core of our nation's founding, and the point of the American Revolution. It has animated our history ever since as a good and decent people, an exceptional nation, one enormously blessed by God. Religious freedom is also at the core of our people's willingness to confront grave evil, whether it be deposing tyrants and fascists, or dismantling terrorist organizations that would deny Americans the right to their beliefs in favor of imposing radical Islamic extremism.

Indeed, religious freedom is our first freedom, the single right from which all other rights flow. It's not just some quaint notion of a time long past. It's central to who we are as a people, and must be protected if we are to remain a nation.

For much of our existence as a country, the truth of religious liberty was taken for granted. Not only did we fight a revolutionary war against England over it, but we risked dividing the nation in a civil war to defend the honorable belief that all men are made in God's image and no person should be enslaved by another.

But in recent years, religious liberty has come under increasing attack. Our country's culture has devolved into extreme individualism that denies universal truths. Concepts such as social mores are discarded as outdated and oppressive to individual choice and expression. Religious liberty is said to be bigoted and discriminatory because it may call into question or serve to restrict acceptance of individual assertions. The consequences of this are all around us. A man can be a woman if he asserts a female "identity." A woman can marry another woman if that is her desire. A child is not entitled to a mother and a father, but might have four fathers or four mothers, and woe be to that child who might one day come to complain about the arrangement.

This cultural devolution is not being driven by the grassroots, the average American who pays her taxes, goes to work, attends church and exercises her right to vote. Instead, it's driven by the elite and the powerful, the proverbial "cool kids" who fancy themselves to be above the rest of us, the ones who know best and who are increasingly determined to impose their superior insights on the nation.

It's this elitist imperialism that is at the root of today's cultural absurdities. It's what makes it possible for five unelected judges to impose a view of marriage that runs counter to the known history of marriage in every country, among every people throughout the entire history of civilization. It's what allows a President to decree that a man is a woman if he wants to be, and then demand that the public schools open the most intimate areas of campus (showers, bathrooms, locker rooms, etc.) to the opposite sex. It's what declares that "tolerance" of same-sex 'marriage' is not enough; it must be endorsed and celebrated or no other relationship can be endorsed or celebrated.

The First Freedom Initiative is NOM's vehicle to push back against what is going on. Under this umbrella, we hope to explain to Americans what is at stake, educate them about the issues and provide avenues for them to be part of solutions.

Now I want to make this clear. The First Freedom Initiative is not a new direction for NOM, nor does it represent a change in our mission. Our mission remains unchanged: we exist to defend marriage and the faith communities that sustain it. We are totally and unalterably committed to restoring marriage to our nation's laws. Whether it takes two years or two decades, it is essential that our state and federal laws recognize the truth that marriage is one thing and only one thing: the union of one man and one woman. Anything else that is called marriage is a lie and cannot be sustained.

Restoring marriage might take as little as a few years. Justice Anthony Kennedy is rumored to be on the verge of retirement. If Kennedy, the author of the narrowly-decided Obergefell decision redefining marriage, does retire next year, we will be in the midst of a titanic fight to replace him with someone like Neil Gorsuch who will act in the mold of Antonin Scalia and restore marriage to our laws. But whether it takes two years or two decades, NOM is in the fight for the long term.

But in the meantime, even as we fight day in and day out to restore marriage, it's imperative that we rally the American people to protect people of faith from being forced to be part of the lie of same-sex 'marriage.' The First Freedom Initiative will give us the opportunity to do just that.

We have some really ambitious plans for the First Freedom Initiative. For example:

  • We envision a series of videos, social media campaigns and public education efforts to inform people about the issues;

  • We are working on a grassroots education and engagement curriculum that will give supporters of marriage the ability to become better informed and more engaged;

  • We seek to reinstate an appreciation for religious liberty as out first freedom and encourage teachers in the public schools to reintroduce the subject into our curriculum;

  • We will work with the Trump administration, Congress and state legislatures to take steps to provide legal protections for people of faith to live out their religious beliefs about marriage.

But if we are to be successful and make a real difference in public opinion and engagement, we will need to raise a minimum of one million dollars to advance the new First Freedom Initiative.

Fortunately, we can take an important first step right now thanks to a $250,000 year-end matching campaign that will mean that every dollar we raise is doubled. Your gift of $10 will mean that we have $20 to advance the First Freedom Initiative. A donation of $25 results in us receiving $50. Will you step up at this critical time?

One of the significant attributes of the First Freedom Initiative is that it holds the potential of being able to unite supporters of traditional marriage with those who are accepting of same-sex 'marriage.' The reality is that it's one thing to redefine marriage; it's an entirely different thing to demand that everyone regardless of deeply held beliefs be active participants in celebrating it.

There are plenty of bakers who will gladly bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. Why is it that devout Christian bakers must give up their religious beliefs and be forced to personally design and create a gay wedding cake?

The same can be said of florists, inn keepers, t-shirt makers, and others.

And how is it that a state like Colorado can be allowed to punish a Christian baker who declines to bake a cake for a same-sex 'wedding' but that same state says it's perfectly fine for a lesbian baker to refuse to bake a cake ordered by a Christian?

Of course, the only way that this can happen is when we abandon our foundational principles and succumb to political correctness. Ultimately, that is what the First Freedom Initiative will confront.

I look forward to sharing much more in the future about our thoughts and plans for the First Freedom Initiative. For now, there are three quick things I am asking of you:

  1. Watch our short video explaining the First Freedom Initiative. Then share it with all your friends and contacts.

  2. Check out our new website and sign up to be part of the solution.

  3. Make a generous donation to support the First Freedom Initiative. Remember, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar thanks to the $250,000 year-end match opportunity.

The First Freedom Initiative is an exciting element of our plans as we head into the new year. Please check it out and get involved!

Brian S Brown

A Major Announcement Coming Soon

Dear Marriage Supporter — I am writing to let you know that we're on the cusp of making a major announcement in the next few days about a big new initiative we have planned for the new year – the launch of a program that will bring together all the major elements of our work: public education, grassroots engagement, judicial activism and policy advancement. I can't say much more right now, but I am very excited about this new approach!.

The initiative we're going to announce shortly is the core element of NOM's 2018 Strategic Plan. I'll be thoroughly covering all the elements in our plan as well in the days to come.

Right now even as we're putting the final touches on our 2018 plans, we can't lose sight of the fact we are still short of the funds we need to hit our current budget objectives. Fortunately, we have a $250,000 year-end matching campaign underway (we've made great strides toward our goal), which means that every contribution we receive will be matched dollar for dollar until we hit the $250,000 goal.

It's critical that we end this year strong. That's why I am asking you to please consider becoming a Sustaining Member of our organization.

As a Sustaining Member, you are asked to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount that is right for you, with a minimum donation of $7 per month. Some supporters contribute the minimum of $7, while others are able to give more. Because of this year-end matching gift opportunity, every person who becomes a Sustaining Member by the end of the year will have their monthly pledge amount matched dollar for dollar for an entire year! Your pledge of $10 per month, will result in NOM receiving $120 in matching thanks to this incredible offer!

Can you help us meet our $250,000 fundraising goal by the end of the year by stepping up to become a Sustaining Member knowing that your monthly pledge will be matched for an entire year?

Now, I realize that many supporters are not in a position to commit to a monthly gift, even something as modest as $7 per month, but would still like to help at this critical time. We are grateful for anything you might be able to give during this wonderful season where the world is called to celebrate the birth of Christ. And the good news is that whatever amount you donate now will be matched, dollar for dollar, as part of our year-end matching campaign.

2017 has been a year of remarkable accomplishment, and I am so excited about our new initiative we will be announcing very soon. We've only got about two weeks left in the year to hit our budget so we all need to make a sacrifice so that that we can begin 2018 with the funds we need to continue to be effective. Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for your support at this critical time.

Faithfully,

Please Remember Us This Holiday Season

Dear Marriage Supporter — We are very grateful for the friendship and support we've received from so many people over this past year. Your prayers and good wishes have helped sustain us throughout a sometimes turbulent but amazingly productive and successful year.

As the year begins to draw to a close, I'm writing to ask you to please remember us in your holiday plans and make a much-needed financial contribution at this critical time. And the good news is that whatever amount you donate now will be matched, dollar for dollar, thanks to a generous supporter who has pledged to match all donations up to a total of $250,000.

If we look back to a year ago, Donald Trump had just been elected President, and all of us were wondering what his presidency would entail. And while there has been considerable turmoil and controversy, we have been able to work with the Administration to accomplish some amazing things. Consider:

We helped repeal President Obama's illegal "transgender bathroom" order that jeopardized the privacy and security of children in our public schools.

We helped secure the reversal of Obama's disastrous use of the military to advance the transgender agenda.

We helped secure a government-wide directive that every federal agency and department must fully respect and accommodate the religious liberty rights of people of faith to live out their beliefs about marriage and other issues.

We urged President Trump to appoint a true constitutionalist to the Supreme Court, and he delivered with the nomination of Neil Gorsuch. NOM worked tirelessly to help secure Justice Gorsuch's confirmation.

Beyond our work with the Trump administration, we also won some amazing victories in the courts and in the court of public opinion. Most recently, we poured everything into the case of Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a major case that has the potential of significantly improving the legal climate for people of faith to continue to live out the truth of marriage at work and in their daily lives.

I am cautiously optimistic for a victory in the Supreme Court, but win or lose we've got a lot of work ahead of us. This includes working with the Trump Administration to issue a formal Executive Order giving additional legal teeth to the recently-issued religious liberty directive, working with supporters in Congress to introduce and pass the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), and working with leaders in the states to enact laws that similarly will protect the rights of people of faith.

Right now, our resources have been nearly exhausted with this latest Supreme Court battle which is why this year-end matching gift opportunity is so important to us. If you'd like to really maximize your support for NOM, please consider becoming a Sustaining Member of our organization.

As a Sustaining Member, you agree to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount that is right for you, with a minimum donation of $7 per month.

Can you step up to become a Sustaining Member knowing that your monthly pledge will be matched for an entire year?

We've got just over two weeks to replenish our coffers so that we can begin 2018 with the funds we need to continue to make a difference. Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a one-time donation, please act today knowing your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for your support.

Faithfully,

We've got to be ready

Dear Marriage Supporter — Last week, one of the most important cases in years involving the religious liberty rights of people of faith came before the U.S. Supreme Court. NOM has played an important role in fighting to protect the rights of Americans to live out their faith about marriage and other issues. We filed an important legal brief that was widely covered by the media in support of Christian baker Jack Phillips and others who decline to participate in celebrating a gay 'wedding' that violates their religious beliefs. We also organized a nationwide push to educate Americans about the importance of the case.

I am cautiously optimistic for a victory in the Supreme Court, but win or lose we've got a lot of work to do. We need your help to be successful. There are three critical steps that we need to take right after the first of the year:

  1. We need to work with the White House to encourage President Trump to issue a formal Executive Order giving additional teeth to the directive that was issued by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to all agencies and departments of the federal government that they must protect the religious liberty rights of Americans, including the right not to be forced into conduct that violates their beliefs.

  2. We need to work with supporters in Congress to urge the introduction and passage of the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), which will put into statute the legal protections needed to safeguard our rights.

  3. We need to work with leaders in the states to enact laws that similarly will protect the rights of people of faith to live out their biblical beliefs about marriage in their daily lives and at work.

I'll be honest, this is an ambitious agenda that will require significant resources to accomplish. LGBT extremists are betting that we will fail, but I have confidence in our supporters that working together we can get this done.

Right now, our resources have been nearly exhausted with this latest Supreme Court battle. So the first step that is needed is for us to organize supporters to ensure that we have many people doing their part to help. The way to do that is to become a Sustaining Member of our organization.

As a Sustaining Member, you agree to make a modest monthly donation to support our work of any amount that is right for you, with a minimum donation of $7 per month. Some supporters contribute the minimum of $7, while others are able to give more. Whatever you can contribute, please act today.

One of our major supporters has stepped up with an incredible Matching Gift opportunity: Every person who becomes a Sustaining Member by the end of the year will have their monthly pledge amount matched dollar for dollar for an entire year! Your pledge of $10 per month, will result in NOM receiving $120 in matching funds thanks to this incredible offer!

I am hopeful that there will be many supporters who feel the call to make this modest commitment to our cause by making a Sustaining Member pledge. It truly is the best way for people to grab an oar and give us a hand.

But if you would like to help and for whatever reason can't make a monthly pledge, please consider a one-time, year-end gift today. Every donation we receive through the end of the year will be matched!

Whether you can step up and become a Sustaining Member or prefer to make a generous one-time donation, please act today. We have less than three weeks left in the year, and it is critical that we replenish our resources if we are to have any chance of moving our aggressive agenda forward. Whatever you decide to donate, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

Thank you for your support.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

"The case is submitted"

Marriage Supporter — With the above words from Chief Justice John Roberts, the case of Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado Civil Rights Commission is now officially submitted to our nation's highest court.

Yesterday's ninety-minute oral argument was intense and multi-faceted, with the justices sharply questioning attorneys on both sides of the case. Kristin Waggoner of Alliance Defending Freedom did an excellent job presenting the case for Christian baker Jack Phillips, who asserted his constitutional right not to be compelled to participate in conduct — a same-sex 'wedding' ceremony — that violates his deeply held religious beliefs. She was aided by our nation's top government litigator, the Trump Administration's Solicitor General Noel Francisco.

While it is notoriously difficult to predict the outcome of a case based on the oral argument, I am cautiously optimistic for a victory. Justice Anthony Kennedy took the state of Colorado to task for what appeared to be "hostility to religion" by at least two members of the Civil Rights Commission, forcing the lawyer for Colorado to officially disavow their statements. Other justices noted that the Commission seemed to be engaging in viewpoint discrimination, punishing a Christian baker who opposed being involved in a same-sex wedding, but ruling in favor of lesbian bakers who refused to create a cake ordered by a Christian that expressed opposition to gay 'marriage.' Several justices probed whether there was a way to create a narrow exception from public accommodations laws based on religious beliefs that would allow them to rule in favor of Jack Phillips, without creating a broad exception that would significantly undermine those laws.

For whatever it is worth, many in the LGBT community did not think the argument went well for their side. The liberal publication ThinkProgress proclaimed, "LGBTQ rights just had a horrible day in the Supreme Court" and predicted that there are almost certainly at least five votes for Jack Phillips in the case. "There's no way to sugarcoat it," they said.

We will have to wait for a ruling, which likely won't come until next June. Whether we win or lose, however, NOM will remain hard at work to fight for the rights of people of faith to live out their beliefs about marriage at work and in their daily lives.

Our plan includes:

  • Urging President Trump to issue an Executive Order making formal the directive of Attorney General Jeff Sessions that the government must fully protect the religious liberty of all Americans;

  • Urging Congress to introduce and pass the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) to protect people of faith from governmental discrimination; and,

  • Working with states to pass religious freedom laws like the law in Mississippi that protects the rights of people of faith.

We're in the final weeks of our year-end matching gift campaign where a generous donor has agreed to match every gift we receive up to a total of $250,000. Please remember us in your year-end giving by making a generous donation knowing that it will double in effectiveness thanks to this matching campaign.

Win or lose in the Supreme Court, we've got a lot of hard work ahead, and we're counting on your help to be successful. But yesterday was a good day for us, one that I pray will be fruitful for Jack Phillips, and for countless others who wish only to live their lives according to their faith, and uphold the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Please help us keep fighting for them by making a generous financial contribution.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown

#JusticeForJack

Marriage Supporter — At 10:00am eastern time today, our friends at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) will argue the case of Jack Phillips, a devout Christian baker and supporter of traditional marriage, before the US Supreme Court. We've covered this case extensively, including producing a video and launching a petition in support of Jack. We also filed an important legal brief supporting Jack's constitutional right to decline to be involved in a same-sex ceremony that violates his religious beliefs. One final thing: please pray for Jack and his family, for his attorneys and for the justices of the Supreme Court. This case is a critical one for freedom, liberty and the constitution. We need to bombard the gates of heaven with prayer for a fair and just outcome — for Jack, for all people of faith, and for America.

Tomorrow is Critical

Dear Marriage Supporter — Tomorrow is a critical day in our quest to protect supporters of marriage from discrimination and harassment at the hands of government. Tomorrow is the day that the case of Jack Phillips, a devout Christian baker and cake artist, is argued before the US Supreme Court.

Jack is the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado. He's operated his business for over two decades as an extension of his faith, using it to honor his love for Jesus. When he was asked by a gay couple to design a custom-cake for their same-sex 'wedding.' Jack politely declined because it conflicted with his religious beliefs about the nature of marriage. For that, the state of Colorado put him in their sights, ordering him to start celebrating gay weddings if he participated in any wedding, and forcing him to undergo a reeducation program and file quarterly compliance reports. Since the order of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, Jack's business is off by 40% and half his employees have lost their jobs.

What happened to Jack Phillips is wrong, plain and simple. No American should be forced by government to abandon their religious beliefs in order to maintain their business. NOM filed an important legal brief with the Supreme Court in this case, and now we are focused on letting people know what is at stake. We still have time to educate more people about this case. That's why I am asking for your help with three quick things:

  1. First, please watch our new video that explains the importance of this case, not only for Jack Phillips but for all who believe in marriage and for all people of faith. Then please share it with all your friends, family and contacts on social media and by email.

  2. Sign our petition to thank Jack for his courage and let him know that you are on his side.

  3. Pray for Jack and his family, for his attorneys who will present his case, and for the Supreme Court justices who will decide his fate. We need incessant prayer to overcome the forces seeking to imperil the freedom of faithful Christians to live out their biblical beliefs in their daily lives.

If you live near Washington, DC, there will be a rally to support Jack tomorrow at the US Supreme Court building.

This is such an important case that we need to do everything we can before the hearing tomorrow to let people know what is at stake. We'd be grateful for any financial support you can provide to help us spread the word.

Thank you for your help. Again, please keep Jack, his lawyers and us in your prayers.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown
