NOM President Brian Brown Takes on Additional Role, Elected President of World Congress of Families

Contact: Joseph Grabowski (202) 457-8060 x-110 |

Washington, D.C. – Taking on an additional role as a leader in the pro-family movement, Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), has been elected president of the World Congress of Families (WCF). Brown was elected at the recent World Congress of Families X conference in Tbilisi, Georgia. He will continue to serve as president of NOM.

“I am honored that the Board of the World Congress of Families has elected me to serve as its president, and I look forward to continuing to work to advance the pro-family movement in the US and around the world,” Brown said. “Preserving and promoting the natural family as the core institution of society is an essential task if we are to build strong, stable, healthy communities.”

The World Congress of Families (WCF) is anchored in truths enshrined in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which provides that, “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion” (article 18), and that, “The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State” (article 16(3)). WCF focuses on providing that protection to which the natural family is entitled, while also protecting the right to freedom of conscience and religion. WCF upholds the rule of law, condemns violence, and respects the dignity and rights of all.

“In recent years, secular leaders around the world have become obsessed with advancing so-called ‘alternative’ family structures. But there is no family structure more valuable and important to children and civilization as a whole than that of a married father and mother raising the children born of their union in an intact and loving family,” Brown said. “The natural family produces the best outcomes for society – promoting child health and well-being, encouraging marital happiness, enhancing economic prosperity, reducing delinquency and criminality, enhancing educational attainment, promoting spiritual growth, and securing liberty and human dignity. I look forward to contributing to WCF’s work to develop and advance pro-family policies around the world.”

The mission of the World Congress of Families is to help secure the foundations of society by uniting and empowering leaders worldwide to respect, protect, and defend:

  • the natural family founded on marriage between a man and a woman;
  • parental rights and the welfare of children, including their need for both a mother and a father;
  • the dignity and sanctity of all human life from conception; and
  • freedom of speech, religion, and conscience in an atmosphere of respect for all.

Gutless House Republicans Betray Christians and People of Faith to Impose Obama's Illegal "Transgender Discrimination" Rules

Dear Marriage Supporter,

In the latest betrayal by Republicans who campaign as conservatives but vote with LGBT extremists, 43 GOP members of the House of Representatives have voted to cement Barack Obama's insane transgender "discrimination" policies in law, prohibiting any entity from contracting with the federal government unless they endorse the administration's radical gender-bending agenda.

Let's get this straight: these 43 Republicans have voted to protect the right of men who claim a female "identity" to use the women's restroom and showers, sacrificing the privacy and security of actual women in the process; meanwhile, they still have not scheduled a vote on critical legislation (the First Amendment Defense Act) to protect the right of Christians and other people of faith to uphold the truth of marriage and human sexuality without fear of government persecution!

As far as I am concerned, these 43 Republicans should be taken to the woodshed by their constituents. If this vote is an example of what it means to have Republican control of Congress, what's the point? A Congress led by Nancy Pelosi would have voted the same way — supporting President Obama's illegal order and discriminating against people of faith. But at least Pelosi doesn't pretend that she is a conservative.

You can see a list of the 43 Republicans who betrayed us here. I am mad as I can be about this betrayal, and I want the constituents of each of these gutless Republicans to know what their representative has done. To do so, we're planning an intense, targeted online advertising campaign to educate the constituents of these 43 Republican members of Congress about their representative's vote.

Donate Today to Support this Critical Fight

Will you help us hold these turncoats accountable? Please make an immediate contribution of $25, $50, $100 or $500 or more so that we can take our fight directly to the constituents of the 43 who betrayed us. Launching an intensive online ad program like this is expensive, and we are depending on you to step forward to help with a generous financial contribution.

Our friend Ryan Anderson of The Heritage Foundation wrote an excellent piece for the Daily Signal explaining just what these 43 Republicans have done. Because of their vote, they have given legitimacy to President Obama's executive order prohibiting "discrimination" against transgender people, and barring any entity from contracting with the federal government unless they have specific policies in place to prevent "transgender discrimination."

Under the Obama rules, if an entity has a bathroom policy based on the biological reality of gender, they are guilty of discrimination and ineligible to be a federal contractor. If an adoption agency feels a child is best served by having a married mother and father, the agency is guilty of discrimination and cannot be a federal government contractor. A Christian school that does not open its female dorms to a man claiming a female gender identity is guilty of discrimination. Even refusing to use a transgender person's preferred pronoun (some of which are bizarre and nonsensical, such as ze and hir) could subject you to a claim of discrimination! In some jurisdictions like New York, it could also result in a fine of $250,000.

This rule impacts individuals, small businesses, religious groups, and any other potential contractor—in other words, this law would remove the possibility for any person of faith who adheres to a biblical understanding of gender and human sexuality to have a contractual relationship with the federal government.

The 43 Republicans who voted to cement Obama's policies in place need to be held accountable. That is why we are planning this intensive online advertising campaign to reach their constituents. But we need your immediate financial help to do so. Please make a contribution today of $35, $50, $75, $100 or $250 or more so that we can move this effort forward.

In contrast to the weak-kneed Republicans who caved into pressure from LGBT extremists, nearly a dozen states and school districts have filed a federal lawsuit challenging Obama's illegal transgender policies. Led by Texas, these states and school districts rightly point out that Obama does not have the legal authority to redefine "sex" in federal law, and cannot adopt policies that seek to force schools to open their girls' bathrooms to men claiming a female "gender identity."

Support the Fight Against
President Obama's Gender Insanity

We commend Texas and those other states challenging President Obama's transgender rules in our schools, and NOM will be supporting them in court with legal briefs.

Please act today with your most generous gift — $25, $50, $100, $250 or $500 or more — so that we can hold the 43 Republican legislative turncoats accountable, and move forward with legal briefs opposing Obama's illegal transgender rules.

This is a critical battle. Politicians must feel the heat when they betray the values of their constituents and put the privacy and security of girls at risk. We cannot allow Barack Obama to act as if he were a king, imposing his liberal values on anyone having business with the federal government, let alone on students in classrooms, bathrooms, showers and changing areas.

Please give generously so we can hold Obama and the other politicians accountable.

Brian S Brown

PS — Your gift of $25, $50, or $100 or more will allow us to reach thousands of constituents of the 43 Republicans who voted to impose Obama's transgender policies on Christians and other people of faith, and will help us fight Obama's quest to impose transgender rules generated by LGBT extremists that violate the privacy and security of girls and women in the most intimate of circumstances. Please act today.

43 Republicans Betray Constituents, Join Democrats in Support of Obama’s Radical Transgender Agenda

Ryan Anderson at Heritage reports on a disastrous betrayal by forty-three Republican legislators who voted this week to betray the values of their constituents and join President Obama's efforts to impose a radical LGBT agenda on the states through manipulation of federal contract laws.

NOM will be working on a targeted online ad campaign to notify these turncoat Republicans' constituents of their betrayal, in order to ensure that they are held accountable.

Here is a list of the 43 Republicans who turned their back on the rights of girls and women to privacy in intimate facilities like changing rooms, bathrooms, and locker rooms, and on the rights of Christians and other people of faith to conduct business with the government without bowing to a radical agenda that denies the biblical truth that men and women are biologically different:

US Bishops Publish New Video on Marriage and Religious Freedom

ZENIT reports:

The U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage has released the next video in the series highlighting the unique meaning of marriage.

Entitled Made for Freedom, the newly released video features experts in various fields as well as personal stories illustrating the importance of marriage to society and the necessity for people to have the freedom to express their beliefs about marriage.

“Made for Freedom is designed to invite discussion about the importance of marriage and religious freedom in our society,” said Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, chairman of the Subcommittee. “Now that the institution of marriage has been redefined in civil law, it is even more important for all members of the Church to witness to the truth about marriage in the public square. We must have courage and act with conviction, knowing that authentic marriage is a gift to be treasured.”

The first and second videos in the series are Made for Each Other and Made for Life, and there is a video in Spanish entitled El Matrimonio: hecho para el amor y la vida.

The video is a powerful statement on the state of the marriage debate and the relationship between marriage and religious freedom.

You can see the new video at the Subcommittee's website.

Obama's Gender Insanity Must Be Stopped

Dear Marriage Supporter,

President Obama is working overtime to impose the dangerous agenda of LGBT extremists. As you know, he's already demanding that every public school in America comply with an edict opening school bathrooms, showers and locker rooms to members of the opposite sex based on "gender identity." This risks the privacy and safety of girls who could be confronted by biological men in the most intimate of facilities.

Now Obama's Department of Health & Human Services has ruled that doctors, hospitals, insurers and taxpayer-funded health programs must provide hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgeries for "transgender" persons. Our taxes and insurance premiums will pay for this!

NOM is committed to fighting President Obama and to derailing this illegal, dangerous, expensive agenda. We're working to pressure Congress to put an end to this, and will support states, school districts, and parents who are planning to sue the Obama administration. We're also working to educate the public about what is going on, and rally the grassroots to protest.

But we need your help if we are going to be successful. I'm asking you to make a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or even $500 or more so that we have the funds we need to take on the Obama administration in Congress, the courts and the court of public opinion. If you are able to give a higher amount, please prayerfully consider doing so. We need your assistance today.

Donate Today to Support this Critical Fight

Thankfully, Americans across the country are calling out President Obama's illegal, unwarranted redefinition of "sex" to include "gender identity." NOM's chairman, John Eastman, is part of the legal team representing North Carolina in their fight against the administration's attack on their state's laws. Over fifty families in Illinois have filed a federal lawsuit to challenge the US Department of Education's decision to force a local high school to open the girls' showers, bathrooms and locker rooms to a young man who "identifies" as a female. Nearly 100 lawmakers in Pennsylvania sent a strongly-worded letter to the administration expressing their "extreme outrage at the legally spurious" position of President Obama.

NOM is already hard at work to support these efforts, and others, to challenge the illegal actions of President Obama. But we need your help to be successful. Please consider making a financial contribution of whatever you can afford — $15, $25, $100 or even $1,000 — so that we have the funds we need to put into this critical fight.

We are urging the GOP leadership in Congress to immediately convene hearings and vote to block the administration from carrying out their illegal regulations. We cannot allow Congress to sit idly by and watch President Obama impose this dangerous, illegal agenda on our children and grandchildren.

The idea that our tax dollars and the insurance premiums we pay must now go to pay for hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery is insane. People who suffer from gender confusion deserve our compassion and prayers, but they do not deserve our tax dollars and insurance premiums to pay for "treatments" that will harm rather than help them. It flies in the face of common sense and ignores the biologic — and biblical — reality that gender is biologically based and not based on "feelings" and "emotions." We should help gender confused people to love the person God made them to be, not to pursue a false fantasy that taking powerful chemicals or undergoing surgical mutilation will somehow fix the issues they are struggling with.

Support the Fight Against
President Obama's Gender Insanity

Sadly, common sense is not something the Obama Administration understands. They would rather kowtow to LGBT extremists who think they can bully the American people into supporting their dangerous agenda. That's why they, and President Obama, must be challenged at every opportunity — in the courts, through legislation, and at the ballot box.

Many groups have been pushed to the sidelines by ugly threats from gay activists, but NOM has never wavered. We have stood strong and fought hard for the truth of marriage, for religious liberty and to maintain and respect the complementarity of the sexes.

We are counting on you to continue to stand with us during this critical time. Please do so by making the most generous financial gift possible so that we have the resources to be effective. Your contribution of $25, $50, $75, $100 or $250 or more will be put to immediate use in the fight.

Thank you for your support.

Brian S Brown

PS — After you have made your own contribution to support our work opposing President Obama's dangerous "gender identity" agenda, please forward this request to anyone you know who might also support us. We must reach thousands of grassroots Americans to successfully challenge President Obama's illegal and extreme gender regulations.

Pastor Parent to Public School: Obama's Decree Denies the Reality of Human Nature

Rod Dreher at The American Conservative posts a letter from a Christian Pastor to the Principal and Superintendent of his daughter's public school, which charitably objects to the Obama administration's recent decree on the 'right' of men to use girls' and women's bathrooms and locker room facilities.

Here is a snippet:

The real issue here is that the Obama administration’s decree is at the surface a pragmatic directive regarding the use of bathroom facilities etc., but implicitly and by logical necessity, it is a claim about what is in fact the case (i.e., true) regarding human nature as an essentially fluid and endlessly malleable reality. That is to say, it is a denial of the reality of any such thing as “human nature” beyond the self-determining dictates of the sovereign, autonomous will. It is, in short, philosophy decked out in bureaucratic dress and backed with a closed fist aimed at deviant philosophers such as myself. You need to know this; you need to know that by implementing the decree, you are not just acting to protect the feelings or safety of a minority. [...] Rather, if you implement this decree, you will be enforcing a highly contested philosophical anthropology that is basically 30 years old, a philosophical anthropology that (without exaggeration) every civilization in the history of the human race would regard as sheer folly. You see, the President is making philosophers of you all! Make no mistake: this “policy” decree is fundamentally an issue of truth; it is philosophical.

Commentary: "Mic Drop" Obituary Challenges Those Left Behind

Steve Deace, writing at the Conservative Review, highlights a recent obituary which, though comical, also sounds a clarion call to our culture to stand up for what we believe in:

Mary Anne Noland went full William Wallace with her last, dying breath earlier this week.

Shouting ‘freedom’ to a people much in need of both backbone and inspiration. May true patriots everywhere now go, and do likewise.

Cancer may have thwarted the Virginian’s life at 68 years, but her spirit has now transcended the grave. Noland simply wasn’t about to leave the art of political trolling to betas decked out in hipster glasses, skinny jeans, and insufferable smugness while putting down heaters and Code Red at an alarming rate in mom’s basement. No, with literally her last gasp she achieved immortality.

Thus was it written to begin her obituary published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Faced with the prospect of voting for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, Mary Anne Noland of Richmond chose, instead, to pass into the eternal love of God.

Italian Cardinal: New Civil Unions Law Threatens the Welfare of Families

Via Crux:

VATICAN CITY — In recognizing civil unions of heterosexual and homosexual couples, the Italian government has equated those unions to marriage, said the head of the Italian bishops’ conference.

While some supporters of the new law, which passed the legislature May 11, insisted the law did not recognize gay marriage, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco of Genoa, president of the bishops’ conference, said the differences are only in the vocabulary used and in “easily circumvented legal devices.”

Tell Paul Ryan to Stop Obama's Gender Bender Insanity

Dear Marriage Supporter,

Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, is the most powerful Republican in Washington. As the leader of Congress, he is in the best position to stop President Obama's extreme overreach on countless fronts, including his insane decrees last week that men must be allowed into public school restrooms, showers and locker rooms reserved for girls if they claim a female "gender identity."

President Obama is using the power of government to extend the dangerous gender agenda being promoted by LGBT extremists, ordering every public school in America to comply or risk the loss of federal education funding. He's sicced the Department of Justice and Department of Education on our local schools to enforce his edict. It's an outrageous example of extreme, unconstitutional executive overreach.

And what has Paul Ryan, the nation's highest-ranking Republican, had to say about this outrage that risks the privacy and safety of our children and grandchildren? Nothing! He has issued no statement, put out no Tweet, nor distributed any press release. He's letting Obama get away with it!

Tell Speaker Paul Ryan that you demand that he fight back against this illegal, immoral act by President Obama that risks the privacy and security of our children and grandchildren. Please sign our petition immediately, which will be delivered to Speaker Ryan letting him know you expect him to fight the Obama "gender identity" insanity.

Act Today and Defend Our Values!

We're seeing the same weakness on gender identity from feckless Republican politicians that we saw from many of them when marriage was under attack. Because of the silence of these so-called conservatives in Washington, the left had an easier time getting activist judges to impose their will and illegally redefine marriage in an anti-constitutional ruling.

I don't know what the problem is with these weak Republicans in Washington who are afraid to challenge Obama on his extreme LGBT agenda. I guess they are afraid of being called names by the LBGT extremists. Their weak advisers likely tell them that the controversy might cost them votes (actually, defending our values will gain them votes). Many of their political consultants say they can take social conservatives and people of faith for granted.

I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of Republicans who claim to be "conservatives" when they run for office but then do nothing to fight for our principles once they achieve power. Please sign our petition to Paul Ryan today demanding that he fight back to stop President Obama from risking the privacy and safety of children in public school by exposing them in showers and restrooms to men who claim a female identity.

What I do know is that the silence of Speaker Ryan and other Republican leaders in Washington is deafening, and their silence will make it easier for the extremists to push their gender agenda in every public school in America. Please sign our petition demanding that Speaker Ryan fight back. And after you've signed, please use the buttons below to email it or share it on social media with everyone you can.

Already we have seen women and girls victimized by this dangerous policy. Women and girls who have suffered horrible sexual abuse have suddenly been confronted by biological males in bathrooms and showers, causing them great emotional pain and making them feel re-victimized. One mother of a young girl who is a victim of sexual assault says her daughter will no longer go to the restroom at school because she can't bear the thought of pulling down her underwear in an area where a man might be present.

And yet, protecting the privacy and security of girls in public school doesn't matter to the LGBT extremists, or apparently to President Obama.

Does it matter to Speaker Paul Ryan? Please sign our petition demanding that he fight back for our children and grandchildren.

Stand Up and Act Now!
Demand that Paul Ryan Fight Back Today

Look, Paul Ryan is a decent man. He loves his family and he has served honorably in the House. He gave a good speech this morning at the National Catholic Prayer breakfast and defended the Little Sisters of the Poor in their fight with President Obama who wants them to facilitate coverage for abortion-inducing drugs that violate their faith. I commend him for that, and I realize that he has a tough job.

But those who seek high office also have a high responsibility to represent the American people and fight for our values. That is why we need Paul Ryan to fight the gender bender insanity that Barack Obama is trying to impose on our nation's public schools. Please urge him to do so by signing our petition today, and then sharing it by email and on social media with all your friends, family and contacts.

President Obama does not have the constitutional authority to impose this dangerous ideology on our children and grandchildren in public school. Most school districts already provide accommodation for gender-confused students, such as access to single stall restrooms and private changing areas. Fighting back against the Obama edict does not make anyone "anti-trans" or "intolerant." If anything, it's those wishing to impose the "gender identity" mandate that are intolerant because in their world, every child must sacrifice their privacy and security to allow the gender-confused to use girls' showers and restrooms.

Please help us fight back against President Obama's illegal, anti-constitutional gender bender edict by demanding that Speaker Paul Ryan — the highest ranking member of Congress — use his power to fight the illegal, immoral and unconstitutional actions of the Obama Administration. Sign our petition today, and then share it with all those you can reach. Thank you.

Brian S Brown

PS — Once you have signed our petition to Speaker Paul Ryan, please utilize the buttons below which make it easy to email it and share it with all your contacts on social media. Please act today! Thanks.

Stop President Obama’s Dangerous, Radical Bathroom Policy For Public Schools

Dear Marriage Supporter,

President Obama has just issued a dangerous, radical directive to the nation’s public schools that they must allow boys and men to use restrooms, showers and locker rooms reserved for girls and women if the men claim a female "gender identity." This policy is being pushed by Obama at the urging of LGBT extremists and now the safety and privacy of our daughters and granddaughters is at grave risk.

Please act immediately to sign our petition to President Obama demanding that he repeal this radical directive. It is imperative that he feel a backlash from the American people if we are to convince him to reverse course. Please do not delay even for a moment — sign our petition immediately and then share it with all your friends, family and contacts.

It is mind boggling to think about the power that radical LGBT extremists now hold among the Democratic party and leftist politicians like Obama and Hilary Clinton. If they are willing to allow these extremists to force their way into our children’s showers and bathrooms, what limits to their agenda exist? The answer is that there are no limits on their extremism.

Stand Up and Act Now!
Demand the President Repeal this Radical Directive

NOM is one of the few groups willing to challenge the LGBT extremists and take on their radical agenda. We will not be cowed by threats of retaliation, boycotts or others forms of intimidation. We will continue to speak the truth and oppose policies the extremists want to impose on our nation, especially when they put children at risk.

In addition to signing our petition, I am asking you to make an emergency financial contribution of $25, $50 or $100 or more so that we can aggressively push back against President Obama and rally the American people to demand this dangerous directive be revoked before girls and women are harmed.

LGBT extremist groups like the grossly misnamed Human Rights Campaign are lavishly funded and they bestow millions of dollars on their favored politicians like Obama and Clinton. NOM is a grassroots organization that depends on contributions from average Americans across the country to fight these extremists.

Please act today to make a financial contribution so we can stop the insanity that risks the privacy and safety of our daughters and granddaughters in public school. Your gift of $15, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford will allow us to extend our petition far and wide and help mobilize Americans to push back against President Obama’s reckless and dangerous action.

Whether you are able to make a financial gift or not, however, please immediately sign our petition demanding that this policy be reversed and then use the buttons below to share the petition with everyone you know on social media and by email.

President Obama has thrown common sense to the wind and is trying to force a dangerous gender ideology on the country, victimizing our children and grandchildren in the process. Don’t let him get away with it. Sign our petition immediately, and then make an urgent financial contribution to NOM so that we can reach more Americans to rally them in opposition to this dangerous policy.

Fundraising Shortfall Imperils Programs

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I'm writing to ask you for your immediate help with a developing problem. As we approach the middle of the month, NOM is more than $10,000 short of meeting our fundraising needs for May, and that does not include the increased expenditures to carry out the enormously successful Fax for FADA and Say No to Target programs we recently launched.

As a result we have a big hole in our budget that we must immediately address, or risk imperiling critical programs that are making a difference in promoting the truth of marriage and protecting the rights of individuals like you and me to live out our beliefs about marriage without fear of being punished by the government.

That's why I am asking you to make an immediate financial contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or even $500 or more to help us meet this current need. If you are able to make a more generous contribution, I ask you to prayerfully consider doing so. Whatever you can afford — whether it be $10 or $1,000 or more — please act today.

Donate Today to Support Marriage

If we are not able to raise the funds to erase this budget deficit, we will have little choice but to cut back on programs, which is something I definitely do not want to do.

As you know, we are in a critical period that requires our full efforts to meet challenges and take advantage of opportunities. The American people have responded generously to our Fax for FADA campaign, and we've generated over 100,000 faxes to members of Congress demanding that they bring the First Amendment Defense Act to a vote. Our work is making a difference and we expect this legislation to be heard by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee soon.

Additionally, NOM has created the Say No to Target website that allows people to join the boycott of Target stores which have adopted a policy risking the privacy and safety of girls and women in restrooms and changing rooms. People can sign the petition at this new website and easily share it with friends and contacts on social media.

At the same time, we are knee-deep in planning our election-related activities. We need to help marriage champions win their races for Congress and for state level offices, and it is imperative that we retain a strong GOP majority in the US Senate to prevent the next President from stacking the Supreme Court with liberal justices who could preside over the destruction of our constitutional principles of government for decades to come.

Please respond today with your most generous contribution so that we can put this budget deficit behind us and focus all our attention on winning the fight for marriage and religious liberty. Your contribution of $25, $50, $100, $500 or $1,000 or more is urgently needed. Please act today.

Brian S Brown

PS — Whatever amount you can afford to contribute to help us erase the budget deficit we face will be a big help. Your gift of $15, $25, $50 or $100 or more will be put to immediate use. Thank you.

NOM's President Signs Statement Decrying Scandals At Catholic Universities Who Honor People Who Oppose Marriage and Life

Brian Brown, president of NOM, has joined with other Catholic and pro-family leaders to decry the scandal at Catholic universities who have honored or provided speaking platforms to public advocates of abortion and same-sex 'marriage.' The statement called on Catholic colleges and universities to "'consecrate [their selves] without reserve to the cause of truth' by teaching and upholding the sacred dignity of all human life and of the divinely ordered institution of marriage."

In recent months, Georgetown University, the University of Notre Dame and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles have honored or provided prominent speaking platforms to notorious advocates of abortion and same-sex 'marriage.'

Last week, Loyola Marymount University awarded an honorary degree to former President Bill Clinton and allowed him to give the spring commencement address to its graduates. Clinton has become an outspoken advocate for gay 'marriage' and abortion and is the leading supporter of his wife Hillary's campaign for president, which is built on a foundation of supporting same-sex 'marriage' and abortion on demand.

Georgetown promoted an appearance late last month by Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, a woman who has presided over an organization that has killed 2.8 million babies through abortion during her tenure. Richards used her appearance on the Catholic campus to advocate for abortion, sterilization and contraception in contravention of the teachings of the Catholic church.

Notre Dame hosted a lecture by Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, a prominent abortion advocate, who used her appearance before students to defend her abortion of her own child. Later this week, the university will honor Vice President Joe Biden, who supports both abortion and same-sex 'marriage.'

The statement, signed by 28 pro-family and/or Catholic leaders, points out that appeals to "freedom of speech" and "academic freedom" do not justify "holding up opponents of known moral truths like marriage and life "as if falsehood and immorality are to be celebrated and not firmly rejected."

The full statement can be read here.

I wanted to send this newsletter to bring you up to date on a number of important items. NOM is working hard on a variety of fronts to restore marriage to our laws and to protect the right of individuals, small businesses and religious groups to live out the truth of marriage as one man/one woman at work and in their daily lives.

We have been working with allies on Capitol Hill and are confident that the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), critical legislation needed to protect the rights of Americans who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman, will be brought to a hearing soon. NOM launched a Fax For FADA campaign that resulted in over 100,000 faxes being delivered to members of Congress demanding that FADA be brought to a vote.

If you have not yet contacted your federal representatives asking them to co-sponsor and support the First Amendment Defense Act, please do so today. The legislation is pending in both the House of Representatives (H.R. 2802) and the US Senate (S. 1598). You can view a list of co-sponsors of the House bill here, and co-sponsors of the Senate bill here.

The legislation is expected to be considered first in the House of Representatives. As soon as the hearing in the House Oversight and Government Reform committee is scheduled, we will be back in touch. Meanwhile, please contact your federal representatives and ask them to sign onto the legislation.

The Obama Administration is doing everything in its power to push the agenda of LGBT radical extremists on the people of America. Most recently, the Obama administration has been working to allow men to force their way into restrooms, showers and locker rooms reserved for girls and women simply by claiming that they "identify" as women.

The administration realizes that it has no chance of passing this radical agenda through Congress (many Democrats would join virtually every Republican in opposing it) so they have decided to bypass Congress and issue regulatory rulings reinterpreting federal law (Title IX and Title VII) barring discrimination based on sex. They've decreed that sex discrimination includes "gender identity discrimination."

Worse, President Obama is now working hand-in-hand with the LGBT extremists to force this dangerous agenda on states and school districts across the country.

The Department of Justice recently sent a letter to North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and other state officials warning that unless they repeal House Bill 2 prohibiting municipalities like the city of Charlotte from adopting gender bending ordinances that allow men claiming a female "gender identity" to invade intimate facilities reserved for girls and women, they will lose federal funding.

Thankfully, Gov. McCrory is not taking this threat lying down. He filed a federal lawsuit today challenging the ability of President Obama to unilaterally reinterpret federal law imposing this radical idea on North Carolina.

Similarly, the Obama Department of Education is busy orchestrating transgender battles at the local level. In Illinois, they forced a local school district to change its bathroom policies so that a male student who identifies as a female is able to shower and access intimate facilities regardless of the privacy and safety concerns of the school's female students.

While school bureaucrats have surrendered to President Obama's illegal action, parents are taking him on. Twenty families have sued the Obama Administration challenging its reinterpretation of federal law.

NOM will be an active participant in the legal process on behalf of both the people of North Carolina and the Illinois families, helping them spread the word about their cases and filing supportive legal briefs on their behalf.

We expect many similar challenges to emerge in the remaining months of the Obama presidency.

As you know, NOM endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz in the race for the presidency because Cruz is a proven champion for marriage and the rights of Americans to act in concert with a belief of marriage as the union of one man as and one woman. Cruz signed our Presidential Marriage Pledge, is the author of an amendment to restore the right of states to define marriage as one man/one woman, and is a co-sponsor of the First Amendment Defense Act.

Now that Donald J. Trump has become the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, we will take our time to assess his candidacy. Trump says he supports traditional marriage but has said the illegitimate US Supreme Court ruling imposing gay marriage on the nation "settles the issue." This is very troubling.

We hope to meet with his campaign to better understand his views before we make any decision on what, if anything to do in the presidential race. In the meantime, we will focus our attention on critical US Senate and House races, and on state elections where we expect marriage to be a critical factor, such as the race for governor in North Carolina.

Control of the US Senate is at stake in the 2016 elections, a critical element that could determine the direction of the nation for decades to come. That is because the next president could have four to five appointments to the US Supreme Court. Having a strong conservative majority in the Senate to prevent liberal nominees from advancing thus is essential.

NOM will be taking a look at a number of important US Senate races that could tip the balance of power. Opportunities exist in several primary contests, and the general election will present numerous opportunities as well.

We are also looking at key races in the US House. NOM has endorsed Colm Willis for Congress in his race for the 5th Congressional District in Oregon. Colm is a proven champion for life, religious liberty and marriage, and is running against Ben West, a gay 'marriage' activist who sued the people of Oregon to invalidate the state's marriage amendment adopted by 57% of voters. Because of West, Oregonians had their votes stolen from them by unaccountable judges. NOM urges you to contribute directly to Colm Willis through this link.

Also in the House, NOM has endorsed Congressman Steve King. King has served Iowans as well as the national fights for marriage, life and family tirelessly for 7 terms. Congressman King chairs the very timely Executive Overreach Task Force, as well as serves on the US House Agriculture, Judiciary, and Small Business Committees. He deserves the full support of marriage champions across the country. You can donate to his campaign by following this link.

Lastly, NOM will be active in state races, including defeating Republicans in Missouri who betrayed us by refusing to allow the people to vote on important protections for Christians and people of faith from being discriminated against by the government over their views on marriage.

NOM wishes to thank and commend Archbishop Carlo Vigano for his service as the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, the Vatican's diplomatic representative to America. Archbishop Vigano was a strong and decisive champion for marriage and regularly attended and supported NOM's March of Marriage in Washington, DC.

George Weigel wrote an excellent piece discussing Archbishop Vigano's exemplary career and leadership.

NOM sends our prayers and best wishes to Archbishop Vigano on his retirement as Apostolic Nuncio.

Say No To Target

Dear Marriage Supporter,

Our boycott of Target Stores is in full swing. If you have not yet personally joined the boycott of Target Stores for their decision to risk the privacy and safety of girls and women in restrooms and changing rooms, please sign the petition today.

NOM has launched a new Say No To Target website that will make it easy for more people to join the boycott and to spread news of the effort. Once you have added your own name to the petition, please use the share and email buttons to send the petition to all your friends, family and colleagues and ask them to sign as well.

Target has made billions of dollars selling merchandise to American families. Yet in recent years they have increasingly taken on an anti-family agenda, working in lockstep with extremist LGBT organizations to push the gay ideology. Most recently, the huge corporation announced a policy that sacrifices the privacy and safety of girls and women by inviting biological males to use restrooms and changing rooms reserved for girls and women based on a claim that they "identify" as a woman.

Please sign our petition to boycott Target. You'll be joining with nearly a million other Americans who have already pledged not to shop at Target in protest of their abandonment of commonsense and their embrace of the extreme gender ideology agenda.

Our new Say No To Target website will make it easy for you to add your own name to the groundswell of opposition to Target, and to share the petition with others. Please act today to join us in boycotting Target.
