Double Your Tax-Deductible Gift!

Dear Marriage Supporter,

Double Your Tax-Deductible Gift!

Much of our work at NOM is focused on changing laws and influencing public policy. That's why gifts to our main organization are not tax-deductible.

But we also do a ton of work on education. While we have been focused on raising the funds necessary to fight the political fight ahead, we know we have so much to do to change our culture and equip people to promote and defend the truth of marriage through our 501 (c) 3 organization, the NOM Education Fund.

Luckily, our $200,000 challenge grant also applies to tax-deductible gifts. With two days left before year-end, here are two simple ways to take advantage of making a tax deductible gift.

Make an Online or Mail Gift to the NOM Education Fund

The simplest method is to give online by clicking here. All donations are deductible for federal-income tax purposes. If you have a foundation or donor advised fund you can mail a gift to: NOM Education Fund, 2029 K Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20006. As long as the gift is postmarked by tomorrow, it will count for the match.

Give your year-end gift today!

IRA Charitable Rollover

The IRA Charitable Rollover provision allows individuals who have reached age 70 ½ to donate up to $100,000 per year to charitable organizations directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) without treating the distribution as taxable income. To take advantage of this recent legislation for the year 2015, individuals must make the gift directly from their IRA to the NOM Education Fund on or before December 31, 2015.

Although there are some excluded organizations under this legislation, the National Organization for Marriage Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) corporation, is qualified to receive these IRA charitable rollover distributions.

To qualify under this law, it is important that the donation from your IRA be distributed directly to us and not distributed to you first. For those with check writing privileges on their accounts, this may be the most efficient way to make gifts directly from an IRA.

Here is the information you will need to provide to your IRA representative:

Name of Charity: National Organization for Marriage Education Fund
Address of the Charity: 2029 K Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20006
Tax ID No. 20-7472471

P.S. One other thing. I have heard from many donors that are inspired that a few major donors have the faith in us to commit larger gifts to these matches.

If you are looking at making a larger gift out of your personal funds, foundation, IRA or through your estate planning and would like to challenge us to match it, just let us know and we will plan for another matching program. For us, the matching program is not a gimmick, but what keeps us fighting for you. To commit to launching a matching grant or to learn more, call Justin Haas, Executive Director, at (202)-618-8959

God bless you!

State Seizes Christian Couple's Bank Accounts To Pay Lesbians Over 'Wedding' Cake Dispute

In a shocking development, the state of Oregon has raided three bank accounts owned by Aaron and Melissa Klein, the Oregon bakers who politely refused to bake a "wedding" cake for a lesbian couple because of their sincerely held religious beliefs. At the time of the refusal, same-sex "marriage" was illegal in Oregon, but that mattered not to the lesbian activists who claimed "emotional distress" that a devoutly Christian couple would not want to participate in celebrating their "wedding." After they filed a legal complaint, an administrative commissioner ordered the couple to pay $135,000 in damages to the offended lesbians -- a ruling that has been widely condemned by legal experts both for its outrageous amount and for its abject failure to comply with religious liberty protections guaranteed under state and federal law.

The Klein's are appealing the decision -- which was issued by a bureaucrat at the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries -- and asked for a delay in collections while the appeal was pending. The same bureaucrat who issued the order denied the delay and moved aggressively to seize $7,000 in funds in the Klein's personal bank accounts -- one of which contained money set aside for their tithe to the Lord!

The Klein's have decided to pay the $135,000 judgment (fortunately, faithful Americans across the country donated enough to cover the fine) while they continue their appeal.

The experience of this young Christian couple is one of the reasons why NOM continues to fight the lie of same-sex 'marriage' and its corresponding falsehood that redefining marriage won't have consequences for average Americans.

Fox has the story here.

a decent start but still a long way to go :-/

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I was in Texas yesterday participating in an important meeting with allies to discuss ways to advance pro-family policies. It was so energizing to be with other leaders of the conservative movement. We have so many opportunities to elect leaders, including the next president, who can advance marriage and other pro-family policies. I left the meeting on a real high as I considered the programs we want to launch in 2016 to fight for marriage and people of faith who sustain marriage.

Then, I have to admit that my heart sank when I looked at yesterday's fundraising report. We still have $92,160 in unclaimed matching funds that we will lose if more of our supporters do not step up with a critically-needed end-of-year gift.

It's a great blessing to have some of our best donors came together to offer to match all contributions to NOM through the end of the year, up to a total of $200,000. If you are one of the hundreds of individuals who have responded and helped contribute $107,840, thank you! Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar.

But NOM has thousands of supporters, not hundreds, which means that a lot of people have not yet done their fair share.

Help us reach our goal before time runs out!

Perhaps you have intended to give a year-end gift to help us take advantage of the match, but haven't gotten around to it yet what with the hectic holiday season. If so, please act today by making a contribution of $25, $50, $75, $100, $250 or even $500 or more. Your gift will immediately double.

I'd also like you to forward this email to one friend or family member who you think might support our work. If each of our supporters did that, it could make a tremendous difference.

A number of people, perhaps like you, gave earlier in the year — and for that we are very grateful. But I'm asking everyone to make a special year-end gift to help us take advantage of the generous matching program that is available only for a few more days. Please give one final gift of the year of whatever amount you can afford — $25, $50, $75, $100 or $250 or more — knowing that it will double in size.

I hope that you have not given up fighting for the truth of marriage, tired of seeing the powerful and the elite win, often through corruption. I admit it can be frustrating at times, but we are called to be ever more faithful during times like these.

And let me be clear — we are not engaged in some quixotic flight of fancy hoping to restore a bygone era. We have real opportunities to significantly advance the cause of marriage and to protect the rights of people like you and me to live out our beliefs about marriage at work and in our everyday lives without worrying that we will be punished by the government for doing so.

Give your support today!

And here's something else that you should realize — if we do not fight with everything we have, the moral climate of our nation will only deteriorate further. Many of the same people who advocated redefining marriage are now agitating for "gender identity" laws so that men can utilize intimate facilities reserved for women. They are telling children that gender is an artificial social construct that anyone can change to suit their feelings. They argue that while taxpayers should pay for gender change procedures, it should be illegal to counsel a person who wants to leave the homosexual lifestyle. They claim that plural marriage including polygamy is a good thing and should also be a "constitutional right." And yet, they assert children have no rights to a mother and a father.

NOM is on the front lines of these issues. We only have about 60 hours left in 2015, precious few hours to raise the funds we need to take full advantage of the match that is available to us to fight the good fight.

Please act right now to make your best year-end gift so that we can enter 2016 in a strong position to fight for the truth of marriage, the reality of gender, the rights of children and the religious liberty of millions of Americans like you and me who believe that what God authored about marriage is good and true, something worth defending.

There's only 60 hours left to act. Please make you gift right now by clicking here.

Brian S Brown

PS — The clock is ticking. The next 60 hours is time we will never get back. If NOM's supporters do not come through with their year-end gifts, we could end up losing tens of thousands of dollars. Please act today with a gift of whatever you can afford, knowing that it will be matched dollar for dollar. Thank you.

Not Going to Make It

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I hate to say it, but right now it looks like we are not going to make our end-of-year matching grant.

Most of our budget is supported by our year-end efforts. Each year a few generous donors band together and generously offer to match whatever we can raise to allow us to keep fighting for marriage and religious liberty.

And every year we have made it.

But now, with four days to go, we are way behind. We must raise $97,000.00 before January 1st to make the $200,000 matching pledge.

Help Us Reach Our Goal by Donating Today!

I know we can do this, but I need your help now more than ever before.

We have four short days to ensure that we can fight for you next year. If you and everyone else who receives this email chips in and forwards this email to one friend or family member, we would easily make the entire matching grant.

Are you in?

I'm in for $35

I'm in for $50

I'm in for $100

I'm in for 500

I'm in for more!

God bless,

Obama is at Work Behind Closed Doors

Dear Marriage Supporter,

What a president does in public isn't the only place where his influence is felt; sometimes what he does out of public view can be just as important, or even more so.

We all saw President Obama's open promotion of the LGBT agenda with his "evolution" on marriage (of course, he didn't actually evolve, he merely lied to us when he first ran in 2008), his abandonment of the Defense of Marriage Act, his urging the US Supreme Court to impose same-sex marriage on the nation, and the disturbing spectacle of his bathing the White House in rainbow colors when the Supreme Court did as he asked.

Obama's public actions to destroy marriage and disrespect people of faith and supporters of marriage are major motivating factors for why we are working so hard to elect a proven marriage champion as president.

Help Us by Donating Today!

If we are to be successful, we're going to need your help. That's why I'm asking you to please make an urgent donation today as we approach the end of the year. We have the opportunity to obtain up to $200,000 in matching funds, but we are still way short of our goal. Please act today with a gift of $25, $50, $100 or even $500 or more, which will be matched dollar for dollar through December 31st.

President Obama is doing more than publicly advocating the LBGT agenda, he's working behind the scenes to advance their dangerous agenda, which defies common sense and American values.

One of the basic truths of life, a truth designed by the Creator Himself, is that humanity is composed of men and women, two different genders that complement each other. But the LGBT agenda depends on citizens ignoring this obvious truth and reconstructing our perceptions of humanity. Men and women are said to be the same, so it doesn't matter if you marry a man or a woman. It thus follows in this flawed perception that children are not entitled to a mother and a father — any two will do. And it only follows from there that biology should not be seen as a defining characteristic of humanity — whatever sex people "feel" or "identify" with determines their gender.

Thus, it then follows that a teenaged boy who identifies as a girl must be treated as a girl, allowed to shower with girls, change with them and use their restrooms. The biological reality of his male body parts must be ignored, and any protests by actual girls in these intimate facilities must be rejected as the product of prejudice and animus.

Of course, there is no justification for this nonsense as a basis for public policy. Fortunately, despite all its cultural and political advantages — massive funding, a fawning media, an entertainment conglomerate that continually shoves LGBT characters and shows in our face, and the support of the political elite, Wall Street billionaires and corporate titans — the LGBT movement has utterly failed to convince Americans of rightness of its position, as the recent vote in Houston overwhelmingly rejecting the "bathroom ordinance" demonstrates.

Enter President Obama who is working tirelessly behind the scenes to advance the LGBT agenda despite lacking public support to do so. Here are several recent examples:

The Obama Administration is taking the position that existing federal anti-discrimination law, specifically Title XII and Title IX, defines "sex" to include "gender identity." Despite the fact that there is nothing in either Title XII or Title IX, or in any congressional debate about them, that concerns gender identity, President Obama is by decree redefining "sex" to include "gender identity."

The federal Department of Education is increasingly inserting itself into disputes with local school districts who wish to protect the privacy and safety of their students. As an example, the DOE recently won a "settlement" with the largest high school district in Illinois on behalf of "Student A," a male who "identifies" as a female. Under the legal agreement reached with the Obama administration, the male student will be given access to intimate locker room facilities reserved for girls, the school must arrange similar access for the student at any other school where the district sponsors activities, any reference to the student being born a male must be segregated from school records, and if the student requests, the district must appoint a "support team" to ensure the student does not experience "gender-based discrimination."

In the field of health care, pending Obamacare regulations also decree that sex discrimination includes "gender identity" discrimination, but they go further to seek to force insurance coverage for "gender transition" services. So our health insurance rates will likely be raised to pay for this mandate, just as the Obama administration is already using our tax dollars to pay for sex change services for Bradley Manning, the convicted traitor who says he's transgender and now goes by the name "Chelsea."

I shudder to think how far President Obama will go in his quest to appease the demands of extremist LGBT groups like the Human Rights Campaign. The next president will not be sworn into office until January 20, 2017, so Obama has thirteen more months to assault our values.

But there's one thing that gives me comfort: This damage can largely be undone by the next president, provided he is a principled, pro-marriage champion.

And ensuring that is up to you and me.

Give Your Support Today!

We know that the American people support marriage. They support common-sense concepts like the idea that God made us male and female to become husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. They know that biology is what determines gender, not amorphous concepts like "identity."

And we know that when given the chance, the American people will vote for policies that uphold our values. Just look at the 31 states that acted to define marriage in their laws, and the decision of nearly two-thirds of Houston voters to prevent men from using intimate facilities reserved for women based on some claim of "gender identity."

It's up to you and me to make these issues prominent in the election of our next president. We must educate the public, activate our supporters and aggressively advocate for candidates who will stand for the truth of these policies.

NOM can't do it alone. We depend on you to support our work. That's why I am asking you to make an emergency donation today of $15, $25, $50, $100, $250 or even $500 or more so that we have the resources to fight for the truth of marriage as God designed it.

We only have a few days left in this critical matching gift challenge, and we're a long way from our goal of $200,000. Please do not set this note aside for even a minute, thinking that you'll come back and make a donation later in the week. I'm asking you to act today, right now, so that we can count on having your gift be matched dollar for dollar.

Your financial contribution at this critical time will make a difference, helping us be in the position to elect a pro-marriage champion as president who will undo the damage that President Obama is doing to the fabric of America. Please, act today with your most generous donation.

Global News: Great News in Slovenia, Action Needed in Bermuda

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I am happy to report that Slovenia voted by over 63 percent on Sunday to reject so-called same-sex "marriage." The government had rammed through the legislation and had done everything possible to stop traditional marriage and prevent the people from having a direct vote. As occurred to our coalition in Washington, DC and elsewhere, the government claimed that the people had no right to vote on the question because it was about protected "civil rights." Talk about begging the question!

In the end our friends at the coalition For Children and the Slovenian voters are to be commended for stopping what looked like a juggernaut targeting Slovenia to be the first central European country to pass same-sex marriage. Congrats!

Bermuda Needs Your Help!

There are rumors that the government of Bermuda is looking at creating same-sex civil unions — without letting the people have a say through a referendum. It is urgent that the people of Bermuda have the same right to vote on the future of marriage as Slovenia just exercised.

If you have friends or family that are residents or citizens of Bermuda please send them this email. Please ask them to forward to their friends and family.

Please ask everyone in Bermuda to contact Premier Michael Dunkley and Senator Michael Fahey and urge them to oppose same-sex unions and support the people's right to vote by clicking here.

Out of Time

Dear Marriage Supporter,

As the end of year approaches, I have to sound the alarm. NOM exists only because of your generous support and we raise most of our funds in our year-end membership drive.

This year I was ecstatic because a group of donors generously committed to match $200,000 if we could raise it by the end of year.

It's tough to say it, but we're almost out of time, and we're only around halfway to our goal. We're not going to make it unless you step to the plate.

Will you pitch in to allow us to continue fighting for you?

Donate today to help us continue the fight!

It's only 25 bucks to become a NOM member and if you and all your friends simply chipped in for the cost of a family meal, we would raise the money in no time.

I know some of our supporters stretch because they know how important our work is. If you can give more, please help us.

I'm in for $25

I'm in for $100

I'm in for 500

NOM Endorsement Helps Propel Cruz To Lead

Dear Marriage Supporter,

NOM's endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz in the race for president has helped result in social conservatives coalescing around his candidacy and he has leaped to the front of the pack in several surveys.

In the critical state of Iowa, a new Iowa Poll shows that Cruz leads the field with 31% of the vote and now holds a ten point advantage over Donald Trump. This represents a more than twenty point surge in support for Sen. Cruz since the prior Iowa Poll survey, and comes after NOM issued our endorsement of him, and after Cruz was also endorsed by other prominent social conservatives, including Bob Vander Plaats who heads The Family Leader organization. NOM cosponsored a number of events in Iowa over the past year with The Family Leader and we have worked closely with Mr. Vander Plaats over the years. Steve Deace, a prominent conservative radio host based in Iowa, has credited NOM's endorsement and several others for helping coalesce the conservative movement behind Cruz.

With his rapid rise in the polls, Sen. Cruz will be in the crosshairs tonight during the GOP debate being televised on CNN. It's the last debate before the Iowa caucuses on February 1st.

Now that we've contributed to Sen. Cruz' rise in the polls, it's imperative that we follow that up with an aggressive campaign to help him advance as the conservative choice for president. Please make a financial contribution to the NOM Victory Fund so that we have the resources to educate voters about this unique opportunity to elect a true champion for marriage, life and religious liberty.

In addition to helping elect Sen. Cruz as president, the NOM Victory Fund will be looking to support other pro-marriage champions in races for US Senate, the House of Representatives and in state houses. In the 2014 election, we ran television advertisements that helped both Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) win their hotly-contested races for US Senate.

The future of marriage is on the line in the 2016 elections. Please help the NOM Victory Fund play a critical role in supporting pro-marriage champions like Sen. Ted Cruz so that we can reverse the illegitimate, anti-constitutional ruling of the US Supreme Court in redefining marriage. I ask for your most generous gift today.

New York Times Notes NOM Endorsement

NOM's endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz in the race for president was widely covered by the media, including by the New York Times. The Times noted that NOM is "central in legal fights against same-sex marriage" and mentioned that Sen. Cruz had signed NOM's Presidential Marriage Pledge. The newspaper observed that Sen. Cruz's team is "hoping that assembling a unified group of important endorsers" like NOM "will prove particularly potent in this cycle." The newspaper noted that Sen. Cruz had pledged to work to overturn the US Supreme Court's ruling making same-sex marriage a constitutional right.

You can read the full story here.

It's Ted Cruz!

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I have some exciting news:

After a great deal of consideration, NOM has decided to endorse Sen. Ted Cruz in the race for president of the United States!

Here is a link to our press release, issued moments ago.

We couldn't be prouder to support Sen. Cruz. Not only has he signed NOM's Presidential Marriage Pledge, but he's the sponsor of one of our key agenda items — a constitutional amendment to restore the right of states to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman — and he's a co-sponsor of another key proposal, the First Amendment Defense Act. Moreover, he's made marriage a clear, consistent and continual theme of his campaign, speaking out forcefully and with great frequency about the need to reverse the illegitimate ruling of the US Supreme Court redefining marriage, and protecting the rights of people to exercise their beliefs about marriage without fear of reprisal from governmental entities. We know that we can count on Sen. Cruz to be a true champion for marriage as president.

I know that some of you are supporting other candidates and naturally may be disappointed in our endorsement of Sen. Cruz. Indeed, making this endorsement was a difficult decision to reach because we have been blessed with so many great candidates this cycle. Several of them — including Dr. Ben Carson and Sen. Rick Santorum — joined Sen. Cruz in signing onto our Presidential Marriage Pledge (along with Gov. Bobby Jindal), while others have a long and distinguished record of championing marriage and religious liberty, especially Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Marco Rubio. Should any of these outstanding candidates emerge as the Republican nominee we would enthusiastically support them. I consider several of them to be close friends.

We are endorsing Sen. Ted Cruz because of the urgent need for a marriage champion to emerge from the crowded field and capture the nomination. Unless conservatives come together behind a full-spectrum candidate — pro-marriage, pro-life, strong national defense, etc. — there is a real risk that someone like Donald Trump could win the nomination, which would be disastrous. We need a president with a proven track record of matching strong principles with concrete action, someone who will champion the fight for marriage, not walk away from it.

When it comes to marriage, Donald Trump folded like a cheap suit, saying that the US Supreme Court ruling has settled the matter and that we have to accept it. No, we don't have to accept it, and we won't accept it because it is wrong, illegitimate and anti-constitutional. We will fight as long as needed to reverse this travesty.

I hope you will join us in supporting Sen. Cruz for president, and contribute to the NOM Victory Fund so that we have the resources to promote his candidacy, and help elect other pro-marriage champions to the US Senate, House of Representatives and other offices.

Support the NOM Victory Fund Today!

We are at a historic moment. If the next president is a pro-marriage champion, we stand an excellent chance of reversing the Supreme Court ruling redefining marriage because the next president is expected to be able to appoint several new justices to the Court. It might take only one different justice on the Supreme Court to undo the illegitimate ruling on marriage. Further, with the stroke of a pen, a new president can protect the religious liberty rights of marriage supporters and prevent them from being targeted for punishment for refusing to accept the lie that is same-sex marriage.

A great deal is riding on the election of the next president. We are confident that in Sen. Ted Cruz we have a proven champion, someone we can count on to advance the cause of marriage in our nation. Please contribute to the NOM Victory Fund so that we may ensure that the cause of marriage can count on having champions in the White House, Congress and in statehouses around the country.

NOM Endorses Sen. Ted Cruz for President of the United States

Contact: Paul Bothwell (202) 457-8060 x-105 [email protected]

Nation's preeminent organization dedicated to marriage and religious liberty says Cruz will be a "champion" for restoring and promoting marriage and religious freedom.

Washington, DC — The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today announced they have endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz for president of the United States. NOM called Cruz a "proven champion" in support of marriage and religious liberty, and pledged they will do everything in their power to support his election.

"Sen. Ted Cruz is a proven champion for marriage and religious freedom and someone we can absolutely count on to fight to restore marriage to our nation's laws and defend the religious liberty of the tens of millions of Americans who believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "Sen. Cruz has not only signed NOM's presidential marriage pledge committing to take specific actions as president, but he has personally authored the pending federal marriage amendment to restore the right of states to define marriage as one man/one woman. Moreover, he has spoken out consistently and forcefully on the campaign trail as an advocate of true marriage. We are pleased to endorse him and will do everything in our power to support his election."

NOM issued a Presidential Marriage Pledge to all the Republican candidates for president asking them to commit to take five specific actions as president, including working to overturn the US Supreme Court's narrow ruling redefining marriage, a ruling that dozens of legal scholars have called "illegitimate" and "anti-constitutional." The pledge was signed by Cruz, Dr. Ben Carson, Sen. Rick Santorum and Gov. Bobby Jindal. While not signing NOM's pledge, Gov. Mike Huckabee issued his own pledge to the American people to fight for marriage, and Sen. Marco Rubio has spoken out powerfully in his campaign in support on marriage.

"The decision to endorse in the Republican primary race was a very difficult one," Brown said. "There are many tremendous candidates remaining who have made support for marriage a pillar of their careers in public service, including Sen. Rick Santorum, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Dr. Ben Carson and Sen. Marco Rubio. We realize that our endorsement of Sen. Cruz will be very disappointing to them. Should any of these candidates emerge as the Republican nominee we would enthusiastically support them. However, there is a real danger that conservatives will split the vote allowing someone like Donald Trump to emerge from the crowded field, which would be disastrous. Sen. Cruz has run the best campaign thus far, racking up endorsements and financial resources and climbing in the polls. We believe he has the best chance of uniting conservatives and going on to win the nomination."

NOM has a long track record of activism in support of traditional marriage across the country, and especially in key early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire, where they have tens of thousands of supporters. The group was a principal player in the successful 2010 effort to remove three sitting Iowa Supreme Court Justices, including
the state's Chief Justice and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in that successful effort. They have co-sponsored several prominent presidential candidate forums this year in Iowa, providing thousands of Iowans the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates. The group also has invested heavily in New Hampshire political endeavors, where they worked to elect dozens of state legislators in recent years and were influential in the election of US Sen. Kelly Ayotte in 2010.

"Beginning in Iowa, and going on from there, we will do everything in our power to support Sen. Cruz and urge all our supporters to coalesce around his candidacy," Brown said. "It is imperative that a proven marriage champion emerge from Iowa and go on to capture the Republican nomination. Too much is on the line for supporters of marriage to sit on the sidelines and take the risk that the Republican nominee is someone who will not fight to restore marriage to the law in our nation. We are at a historic moment, and we urge all conservatives to unite behind Sen. Ted Cruz, a man of principle we can all count on to give his all to the cause of marriage and religious freedom."

We Are Doing God's Work

Dear Marriage Supporter,

We've been in many fights together to support the truth of marriage.

We've partnered to pass ballot initiatives around the country, to defeat activist judges in Iowa, to rally tens of thousands at the March for Marriage, to defeat men in women's bathrooms in Houston.

And we know that whether we win or lose a particular fight, we are doing God's work.

But we also know that it is not easy. In fact, it's hard in this culture to stand for the truth.

It's hard to see an out of control Supreme Court making law out of thin air.

It's hard to see the senseless attacks against us as "bigots" just for standing for the simple truth that it takes a man and a woman to make a marriage.

It's hard to constantly be the David versus the same-sex marriage lobby's Goliath.

It's hard to see some in our own families turning their backs on truth.

But the very fact that it is difficult, should give us great comfort and hope.

We were created for a time such as this. God placed us in this difficult time and place for some purpose.

Like the Christians before us, it is not in times of ease and comfort that great transformations occur, but exactly at the point where things are hard, where cultures and civilizations go astray, that the faith grows, that truth can be more clearly seen like a light in the darkness.

That is what I see as our mission at NOM: to boldly proclaim and advance the truth that marriage is by its very nature the union of one man and one woman. To be a light in a culture of darkness. To boldly and fearlessly stand for this truth come what may.

I believe we have lived up to that commitment and that is exactly why the same-sex marriage lobby including Marriage Equality USA is so scared of us. They have noted with great alarm, “[NOM] has finally come clean with a startling admission of their tactics moving forward: Contain the 'damage' of marriage equality by passing laws that allow public officials and businesspeople to refuse to have anything to do with gay couples' marriages..."

Yes, that is a key part of our efforts at NOM, but our work goes much further. To reverse the illegitimate and anti-constitutional ruling of the US Supreme Court redefining marriage. To help elect a pro-marriage champion as president of the United States. To stop communities like Houston from declaring it “discrimination" to prevent a man from using intimate facilities reserved for women like showers and bathrooms based on some vague notion of “gender identity." And to protect the religious freedom of every American to exercise their beliefs that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.

Yes, this fight is hard. It's hard for me to write this email requesting your generous gift as the year closes. It's hard to tell you that we are far from meeting our $200,000 matching gift. It's hard to say that we may have to significantly cut our many programs unless you, our partner in this fight, stand with us now with your most generous gift.

Offer Your Support Now

From helping to pass Proposition 8 to Houston I have been blessed to be a part of miraculous victories for the truth. I know how hard each of these fights have been. But I also know that they would never have happened if people had not in prayerful awe said that no matter how hard it was they were going to stand resolutely for the truth at the times that are most difficult.

I have one question for you: Will you stand with us now?

Will you stand with us by making your most generous end of year gift to allow us to continue to be your voice for truth?

We have so much to do, from passage of the First Amendment Defense Act in Congress, to electing a pro-marriage champion as president, to reversing the illegitimate ruling of the US Supreme Court, but without your support we won't be able to do any of it.

Standing for the truth of marriage is a great blessing in this time of turmoil. No matter what comes we know we are on the right side. Stand confidently with us again and help us be your voice in the coming year. Remember, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar through the end of the year, up to a total of $200,000 in matching funds. Please help us take full advantage of this incredible opportunity.

Common Sense Returns to the Commonwealth!

Dear Marriage Supporter,

For over two hundred years America has stood by the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman — until five un-elected judges recently ruled to impose a redefined version of marriage. We are now in the fight of our generation — not just for our civil rights and our religious freedom but also for the future of the nation.

To most of us we can't begin to fathom how we have managed to stray so far from the common sense moorings envisioned by our Founding Fathers. Nor can we believe the rights affirmed in the First Amendment continue to be trampled on everyday. The onslaught is fierce and relentless.

And, if you're like me, you are wondering why isn't MY voice being heard in the midst of insane decisions like the jailing of Kim Davis in Kentucky.

Kim Davis was jailed and vilified without even the consideration of being offered fair accommodation for her religious beliefs. Her "crime" was not wanting to be personally complicit in licensing something that violates the Kentucky state Constitution, and violates her own deeply held beliefs that marriage is, and can only be, the union of one man and one woman. Both federal and state law requires that government seek reasonable accommodation for people like Kim Davis who have deeply-held beliefs based on religious objections. But a rogue federal judge was more interested in asserting raw power, and the elected officials charged with protecting the people — the Governor and Attorney General — refused to do anything.

There is clearly a double standard enveloping in this country. Where will this insanity end? When will our voices be heard?

Well the good news is we are making an impact. We are achieving success. NOM took an active role in helping bring the Kentucky battle to the national stage and the pressure that was placed in the public square is paying off.

Thankfully, some common sense is returning to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Matt Bevin, the governor-elect of Kentucky, has pledged that as governor he will issue an executive order to remove the names of county clerks from marriage licenses — a step he said will protect county clerks from being jailed for their religious beliefs. Finally, sanity has prevailed.

Bevin said, "One thing I will take care of right away, we will remove the names of county clerks from the marriage forms. That is going to be done. The argument that that cannot be done is baloney."

It's interesting that this is exactly what Kim Davis had requested. But those requests went unanswered by outgoing Democratic Governor Steve Beshear — — who ordered every elected clerk in the state to immediately issue same-sex ‘marriage' licenses that violate both the state constitution and, for many, their own consciences and beliefs. He claimed that he had no authority to relieve county clerks of their statutory duties by executive order and the issue could only be addressed by the state legislature, which reconvenes in January.

NOM continues to fight, and we are making a remarkable impact. We are on the front-line of the battle. Everyday we are fighting for religious liberty and the truth about marriage.

We take pride that our work not only helped free Kim Davis from jail, but also helped shape the political landscape in Kentucky. We were strong supporters of Matt Bevin in his race for governor, and we worked hard to educate people about the failure of the Democrat candidate, Jack Conway, who as Attorney General refused to defend the state's marriage amendment passed with 75% of the vote. Now Mr. Bevin is looking forward to being sworn in as governor and Mr. Conway's career has been ended.

With your support the NOM initiatives are making a difference. But we need your support to keep the momentum going and continue making an impact. It's imperative we remain fully funded so we can continue our work on your behalf.

Marriage and Religious Liberty Dominate Presidential Family Forum

Dear Marriage Supporter,

As you may recall, NOM co-sponsored the recent Presidential Family Forum in Des Moines, Iowa. I was there with 3,000 activists who braved a fierce winter storm to hear the leading GOP presidential candidates share their views and their hearts on critical issues facing American families.

Marriage and religious liberty dominated much of the discussion during the forum. While the event generated considerable media coverage, predictably the news stories did not cover the extent to which the candidates discussed contesting the anti-constitutional and unjust ruling of the US Supreme Court redefining marriage.

NOM has prepared a video with the highlights of comments made by the candidates talking about marriage and religious liberty. We encourage you to watch the video and judge for yourself which candidates best represent your views and who have the passion and commitment to lead the American people forward to reversing the marriage ruling and restoring marriage to our nation's laws.

Our co-sponsorship of this forum is a very good example of the work we undertake — sometimes quietly behind the scenes and sometimes publicly — as America's only organization exclusively dedicated to marriage and religious liberty, and the faith communities that sustain them.

Won't you please consider making a financial contribution to support our work? Your contribution of $15, $25, $50, $100 or even $250 or more will go a long way to helping us continue the fight for marriage. And because of the commitment of a generous donor, every dollar you give through the end of the year will be matched, doubling the effectiveness of your own contribution.

Now that we are in the midst of the holiday season, our hectic lives will be moving forward at a fast pace. Soon Christmas will be upon us, and then New Year's and not long afterwards voting in the presidential contest will commence with the Iowa caucuses on February 1st. We're just two months away.

NOM intends to bring public attention to the presidential candidates' views on marriage. A number of leading candidates have signed our pledge, while others have tragically surrendered the fight in the face of the US Supreme Court's illegitimate ruling with the lame excuse that “the Court has spoken." Yes, they spoke, but theirs is not the last word. The American people are entitled to the last word on marriage, not five unelected judges.

We are putting the finishing touches on our plans for 2016, and they are robust. We intend to help elect a pro-marriage champion as president, fight for the passage of the First Amendment Defense Act at the state and federal levels, engage Americans at the grassroots level in support of marriage, highlight cases where Americans have been harassed or victimized for standing for marriage and aggressively advance the truth of marriage in the public square and its importance for children and families.

Won't you please make a generous contribution to help our plans turn into reality? Whatever you can give will be doubled by a generous donor.

Brian, I'll pitch in $15 which will be matched, resulting in NOM receiving $30.

Brian, I'll pitch in $25 which will be matched, resulting in NOM receiving $50.

Brian, I'll pitch in $50 which will be matched, resulting in NOM receiving $100.

Brian, I'll pitch in $100 which will be matched, resulting in NOM receiving $200.

rian, I'll pitch in $250 or more which will be matched, resulting in NOM receiving $500 or more.

I hope that you will take a few minutes to watch the video we've produced with highlights from the Presidential Family Forum co-sponsored by NOM. You will see a number of candidates speak passionately about the importance of marriage. They make me proud of the work we are doing to promote a thriving marriage culture, and they inspire me to keep fighting for the truth of this great institution created by God for our benefit and the benefit of children who deserve the love of a mother and a father. You can also watch the full forum here.

Think about the profound difference electing a pro-marriage champion as president would make in our nation! With the stroke of his pen, he could enact critical legal protections prohibiting governmental entities from targeting people because of their beliefs about marriage. Many of the disastrous policies of the Obama Administration could be erased. He will have a bully pulpit to advance the cause of marriage in the public square. And most importantly he will likely be able to appoint several new justices to the Supreme Court -- solid judges who will interpret the constitution based on what it actually says and not invent new “doctrines" to justify remaking our society.

Please help NOM enter 2016 with a head of steam, knowing that you have our back. Your generous financial contribution today will help us secure a bright future for marriage tomorrow. Thank you for your consideration.
