Don't slow down

Dear Friend—The momentum that NOM enjoys right now is amazing, but we can't afford to slow down. Everything we've accomplished is because of you and our loyal supporters, and I am counting on your continued help.

All the opportunities we have in front of us are incredible – the fight to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, an expanded push for religious liberty protections by the Trump administration, legislation that is moving in Congress and the states, and the prospects for a pro-marriage US Supreme Court – but our finances are being stretched beyond what we planned. Can you help us with an emergency financial contribution today?

>>> I'll make a one-time gift of $15 to keep up NOM's momentum

>>> I'll make a one-time gift of $25 to keep up NOM's momentum

>>> I'll make a one-time gift of $50 to keep up NOM's momentum

>>> I'll make a one-time gift of $100 to keep up NOM's momentum

>>> I'll make a one-time gift of $250 or more to keep up NOM's momentum

I remember joking with a friend a few months back about what we'd do if all of a sudden all the things we were working on started to happen. At the time, it seemed unlikely. The Trump administration had already acted to protect religious liberty and there was no hint of more to come. Congress had not introduced the First Amendment Defense Act or child welfare inclusion provisions to protect people of faith from being punished for supporting marriage. Anthony Kennedy had given no public hints that he planned to retire from the Supreme Court. I jokingly told my friend that it would be a good problem to have if all our priority projects picked up steam at the same time.

Now that everything we are working on has taken on real urgency because the opportunities are incredible, maybe the joke is on me. It is a good problem to have, but at the same time it is also concerning because we just don't have the financial reserves we need to keep up our aggressive push on all fronts. The plain truth is that we need to raise additional financial resources, and soon.

Just look at what's been happening in recent weeks:

  • The confirmation battle for Brett Kavanaugh looks very promising. All the Republicans seem likely to hold, and we're targeting six Democrats who are running for reelection in states that President Trump won. I'm not counting our chickens before they are hatched, but it sure looks encouraging for Kavanaugh.
  • When Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed, we will have a pro-marriage majority on the US Supreme Court for the first time in years, giving us a legitimate path forward to restore marriage to our nation's laws.
  • The House of Representatives has put a legislative provision in a key funding bill that will protect faith-based adoption agencies from being punished because they believe in traditional marriage and adopt children out only to married couples who can provide children with the love of a mother and a father.
  • The US Senate has introduced the First Amendment Defense Act to protect marriage supporters from retaliation by any agency of the federal government because they will not violate their religious beliefs and personally participate in a same-sex ceremony or celebration.
  • The Trump administration has embarked on a sweeping push to protect the religious liberty of people of faith, even adopting language used by NOM that religious liberty is "our first freedom."

By any measure, this whirlwind of activity and accomplishment is unprecedented. We've been working nonstop on all these priorities but our resources are running low and  it's time to refill the tank. Will you help us with a financial contribution of $15, $25, $50, $100 or even $250 or more?

Thank you, once again, for all of your support. As you can see, it is making a real difference and I hope you can help us again at this critical time so that we don't have to take our foot off the gas on any of the priorities that are now in play.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown
