MN:
At the top of the ballot just below the heading, a conspicuous notice shall be printed stating that a voter's failure to vote on a constitutional amendment has the effect of a negative vote.

I don't believe the above establishes a failure to vote is a NO vote in MN...someone should call the MN legislation or the govt's office for clarification.

The DADT ruling was vacated because DADT had been repealed by the legislature before it came before the court. DADT will never again be imposed. There is no going back to discrimination.

@ Spunky, I know a thing or two about legal language...
I think you are misinterpreting what the below NM voting rule means: "negative effect" is not the same as a "NO" vote...the issue may require calling the MN legislation to clarify.

In case bloggers are interested: Fresh from Hawaii

Hawaii Governor declares Hawaii marriage Law denies Federal Constitutional Rights.

Source: Smart Business Hawaii newsletter, Feb. 22, 2012

Attorney General David M. Louie announced yesterday that Governor Neil Abercrombie and Director of the State Department of Health Loretta Fuddy, have filed separate answers, as the two defendants named in their official capacities, in the First Amendment Complaint in Jackson v. Abercrombie, the United States District Court lawsuit which challenges Hawaii's ban on same sex marriage.

Governor Abercrombie has acknowledged many of the complaint's allegations, including the denial of federal constitutional rights caused by the state's existing marriage law. Director Fuddy, however, as the director of the department charged with administering the law, has denied many of the complaint's allegations. As such, the Department of Health will continue to enforce the law, and will vigorously defend it.

Get ready for same sex marriage in Hawaii with this Administration's record of defense of existing laws.
- - -

My point:
Abercrombie has been rated as the least popular Governor (most unpopular, though not easily compared) in the USA, currently. Hawaii, with a Democrat Legislature and Governor, is no longer Paradise, now that they cannot get any more Earmarks, hardly. Democrats have never been so vulnerable, in Honolulu.

Barb,

Your reading comprehension must be slipping. Did you read Walker's ruling and findings of fact? The ninth circuit must have agreed. Do you seriously think the ninth circuit is wrong? What nomers fail to accept is that their opinion of homosexuals means absolutely nothing. Fact, reason and reality conversely mean everything. The court, through logic and reason, found the prop h8 defense to be nothing but full of the holes you mentioned. Your confidence scotus will deliver a result contrary to that of Walker's is nothing less than maliciously natured hubris.

Daughter of Eve - on one thing we can agree - No one is forced to get married and it's clear that many people probably shouldn't-even if they legally can. I once heard it put this way - monogamy may be moral, but whether it's natural and realistic is another matter, particularly now that we live so much longer than we used to. The decline in marriage rates or at least delaying marriage is a good thing...it means people are thinking much more about that commitment. Bravo!

AD, could you please list those big companies you are referring to so we here at NOM can call them out too?
We are the 98%, but all that is needed is 25-30% of "us" to put those big businesses who support marriage corruption with our dollars, out of business by supporting their competition.

If had the money, I would solicit for your dollars, in fact I would open up a business and post a BIG sign in the front of the store that would say,"GOD BLESS AMERICA, WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS, WE SUPPORT THE AMERICAN FAMILY", and offer a better tasting coffee than Starbucks.
Someone elses loss is another person's gain... This is how the free market works! If you mistep in running your business, there is a another company just waiting for you to fall and take away what you once had and abused.

Hey! The so-called Human Rights Campaign used to post their so-called 'External GLBT Engagement' praises to corporation who funded them for 'external' sexual (dis)orientation projects, according to their individual Organization Profiles.

The link to the corporate rating of Starbucks used to be at this hyperlink:
http://www.hrc.org/issues/workplace/organization_profile.asp?organization_id=1168&search_id=1&search_type=Quick

Here's what it used to be posted as (at most 6 months ago):

http://veryyoungya.brinkster.net/Starbucks_coffee-August_9_2011-See_External_GLBT_Engagement.pdf

---------------------------------------------------------------
I also have the data for:
-- Campbell Soup
-- Coca Cola and
---- Coca Cola Enterprises
-- Chili's Restaurants
-- Coor's beer (MillerCoors, LLC)
-- Kellogg's Corn Flakes (Kellogg Co.)

My point:
Apply your conscience as to whether you will personally support these corporation's monetary gain. Detailed sponsorship of "external GLBT events" (GayLesbianBiSexualTrangender events) is money used in part to further the legislative cause disregarding and disrespectful of DOMA and US Congress as the authoritative legislative body.

It is most effective to personally boycott companies which sell low-priced everyday products, and NOT to boycott their close competitors (as in Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi). It is also important to highlight any addictive, or less-healthy aspect of the products, or whether the Nutrition Facts of the product are easily obtainable.

The compiler (at HRC) and source of this information offers the following DISCLAIMER: "The information offered here is intended for educational purposes only."... and " While every effort is made to confirm the existence of these laws and policies, some may have been included in error."

So, you see... now that we are EDUCATED about who does what, we can proceed with our own personal boycott. Thanks HRC! You have a right to free speech :)

@ Apollonian, Arthur:
I have used computers with MS Windows system for over 13 years, I have never paid a penny to Microsoft.
I have been fortunate enough to get new software when I need it for free. I will never, every pay for MS's outrageous software prices for their product, or If it did not come with my future PC purchase. I just get what need from my PC tech friend. What I know today, I'll have to be on drugs before I give my money to MS.

I'll bet though, if 50% of their consumers sent the company a letter to tell them to stay out of the marriage business, that would be their huge wake-up call...

I was referring to the ruling by Judge O'Scannlain of the Ninth Circuit that (independent of the repeal of DADT) completely nullified the ruling that it had to be repealed and prohibited its treatment as a precedent.
