AGAIN, you ignore the fact that parents had to give their permission for their children to be involved in this lesson. Omitting that crucial detail makes you guilty of misrepresentation.
No they did not, according the lawyers defending the parents who are upset with this. And check out the next fox news video we are about to post--showing the organizers and defenders of this program believe they have a right to do this without parental permission because its "wrong to teach children to hate."
alvin - The opt out is irrelevant; the point is that his is the direction that schools will go in if SSM is legalized. And if SSM is legalized, the schools will acquire the power to make such courses mandatory.
Kids need clear direction and guidance, and oftentimes, especially in impoverished areas, the only place they can get decent guidance is from the school. Offering them a choice of gender just sets these kids up for a life of confusion.
Enough kids are confused without the help of the schools. It's as if the schools want to screw these kids up so much that they are destined to become government dependents.... a backdoor approach to socialism where the people are rendered incapable of living their lives without government assistance. Child abuse is what this is.

Maggie, I find it interesting that this post does not link to the Fox News story in question which said in fact that parents WERE notified beforehand. In fact it also said that three parents did opt their children out of this lesson plan.
So something it out of joint here. If three parents opted their children out, it means that the parents DID have to give their permission. Furthermore, and here is something we both omitted - the lesson had nothing to do with gay marriage. While no one said it did, the fact that it is included on this "protect marriage" site implies that it does have something to do with gay marriage, or at least folks behind this blog want folks to think that it does.

I do not understand your reasoning--how does teaching this stuff NOT have anything to do with threatening the definition of traditional marriage? This is ALL related. Anything that tries to diminish or redefine gender has everything to do with the traditional family.

By the way, former MN Gov Tim Pawlenty vetoed a similarly insidious program called "Welcoming Schools." It was also sold as a "bullying program," but the real intent behind it was exactly the same as the one in this post: indoctrination of children to the gay lifestyle. I understand that many people do not feel like they ever made such a choice, and I know others who basically had the choice made for them. But there are still others of us who did choose.
The question remains unanswered and in my mind unanswerable. Queer theorists will insist that male/femaleness is a mere 'social construct', but that 'sexual orientation' is innate, inborn, and immutable.
And yet there is still no test for 'sexual orientation', no way to prove whether an infant, a sleeping patient, or a corpse is straight or gay. Finding out whether they are male or female is pretty simple.

No one has one particular day that they choose to lead a moral life, it is a series of choices over a lifetime. Everyone makes wrong choices on occasion, but the moral ones learn from those wrong choices and adjust their behavior. You could ask a similar question of when did you decide to not to become a bank robber, but that decision was not made once, it was made by deciding many times over the years not to rob a bank.

Many people are alienated, ostracized or bullied because of their intelligence level, their atheletic ability level, their looks, their nationality, their religious beliefs, their funny sounding name, their health, or just because some ringleader out and out does not like them. In fact, I daresay that this last reason is the reason in the majority of cases of bullying.
So why the specificity of one's sexual habits, and at the primary school level when it is only a very small minority of people are affected? Why do focus on them and ignore the majority of those bullied? Why seperate a category out at all if this is an anti-bullying class? Why not just simply teach that *all* alienation, ostracization and bullying for *any* reason is wrong? Why the special preferential treatment to one particular group? Why does this particular group get preferential treatment? Do not the rest of us also have a right not to be bullied?

However "bullying" is how what you want to be taught in the school can be taught, how it can be considered acceptable. I could care less if people are gay or straight. I do take offense when the subject of sexuality is taken out of the household and put in the classroom. These are discussions that children should have with their parents not their teachers.

This is really extreme, usually things that happen in US will come to Europe 20 years later... I am wondering how we can prevent this to happen in Europe and elsewhere and how to help US. What ever happened to teaching kids how each gender, male and female, have acted over the ages? There are certain characteristics of being male and being female that have prevailed throughout all of history (ie. male= protector/provider, female=nourisher/lover). No wonder our young people are so confused and many males take no responsiblity for their actions these days (so many children are born to single mothers- it's almost an epidemic)-- they are taught this garbage from age 5!
It's no wonder that American youth are growing up more confused about any true values. It's bad enough when the line between right and wrong is purposely clouded, but clouding the line between male and female? Wow this lesson seems really awesome! I think we need to start recognizing that even in nature, there are gay animals. And since humans are in fact animals, we can be born gay as well. We also must realize that some people who are born female or male, may strongly feel as if they are the opposite sex.

This is abusive to children because it does great damage to their identities and their innocence. Children do not understand nuances and will thus identify with and take on the gender confusion that is being taught to them. The "It gets better" campaign is directed at young gay and trans gender youths because they are the ones who get threatened, get thrown out of their home, or consider running away or committing suicide because their precious "children deserve a mother and a father" parents who brought them into this world (or who have adopted them) cannot abide by the abomination they find in their house.
I am sorry "you are tired" of hearing this message. Perhaps you should "tune out" because this message isn't for your. Gender is not always black and white; there's a natural variation between the two extremes. What's the big deal, the school is just teaching a scientific reality, with the intent of protecting kids that fall in the middle or who are born with dual genders. Shouldn't those kids be allowed to have a safe place to go to school without being bullied for being the way God made them? Anti-bullying lessons are a good thing for schools to present. Teaching just reading and writing doesn’t work if some of the kids are bullied and therefore cannot learn the basics because their school environment is not safe.
I don't believe for a minute this is meant to stop bullying of kids who act different. There are a lot of ways to do that. This is indoctination and confusing to children who already have too much info on their plate to process rationally.

I decided to check out Gender Spectrum's site to get some idea of where they are coming from. In the 'Understanding Gender' section, they decide to completely redefine the word 'gender' and falsely claim that "For many people, the terms “gender” and “sex” are interchangeable. This idea has become so common, particularly in western societies, that it is rarely questioned. Yet biological sex and gender are different; gender is not inherently connected to one’s physical anatomy. "
So, I looked up the word gender in the dictionary and it does, and has always meant, male, female or neuter (neither).
It seems that the LGBT community is trying, yet again, to redefine a normal English word and bend it according to their own agenda. I'm not really sure what the agenda is but trying to confuse children is not just unethical, it is mental and emotional abuse, the very kind of thing they are trying to teach against.

The argument about people of homosexual behavior committing suicide seems to be used as a proof for anything, and as grounds for blaming whoever...
So, it blames the death by suicide superficially on SOMEONE who caused it..... who is at fault or responsible for such suicide to have occurred. Of course, the cause for the suicide could be undeclared, unresolved, unknown, complex - and the person we could ask is, of course, dead. But, some teens of homosexual behavior could be influenced by the same-gender marriage activists too: the idea that they are born that way could be disastrous to a teen; or the idea that society presently discriminates against them, or rejects them - which is not true. The last sector of US society to reject them is the Christian sector - true believers (you will know them by their actions.)
Instead, the Christian (or should i say Biblical) attitude toward people of homosexual behavior is that it is a complex behavior, resulting from trauma or radical influences, or from abuse by others for their own interests..
The Bible teaches that it is (in general, unless the person is literally crazy) a behavior, and is not in the best interest of the person.
But the positive aspect of that teaching is that people can be freed from this behavior as with other forms of habits, or chemical dependences. But there are other sins that we indulge in, and do not take seriously; and this makes us ponder about our own sins in that light. Lying is a sin, for instance, and just as morally unrecommended in the Bible.
But, another (most important) aspect of that Biblical teaching is that we all have the potential or capacity to end up in homosexual behavior.
We wouldn't like to admit it, but if the Bible puts it as a human behavior, we are all prone to it, and it might take something to trigger it, perhaps hanging out with the wrong crowd, someone very confused, perhaps a manipulator, someone abusive, or even a traumatic experience per someone of the opposite gender/sex.
Many teens commit suicide out of romantic rejection. Teens on homosexual behavior do not have a "monopoly" on that.
But we are warned and taught about sin because sin hurts us - it has consequences - for us and often also for others. It is certainly not because we can "hurt" God by sinning. We sin against ourselves.
The Biblical viewpoint of homosexual behavior is that it is a behavior. It was viewed by its actions, as a behavior, and it still is (unless the person in crazy - point of no-return).
That doesn't mean it is easy to abandon the behavior for good, or that a person might want to abandon it. A trauma from a broken, passionate, man / woman romantic or sexual relationship could make a person feel disgusted with the opposite gender/sex. If they are repelled by the opposite sex, they would feel more comfortable with the same gender/sex. That doesn't make them "gay".
But the Bible sheds light on the subject, from a time when raw experiments could be done on people. The activists lobbying for same-gender marriage tell teens - "you are what you are; and you cannot change". There's no hope in that assertion. There's no way out, unless someone else says "Yes, there is a way out."
There is nothing wrong with this lesson plan, PARTICULARLY when the parents were notified beforehand, and they were. There is no such thing as "promoting homosexuality." You forget that some of those children themselves are either gay or come from same-sex households I should have said "you want to willingly forget."

How can you determine a child's sexuality before they even hit puberty? You can't. It seems to me that these "gender diversity" teachers are trying to make that determination for them. That's what makes this indoctrination masquerading as "anti-bullying" so disturbing.

When schools can neither teach kids how to read and write effectively, nor how to do simple math (like make change without a computer), and with the battle raging over whether we should keep injecting/reallocating taxpayer funds into the educational black hole of underproducing and dysfunctional schools, the last thing we need eating up time and resources in our classrooms are more social engineers who forget (or disagree with the fact) that the basic building block of society is the family (i.e., mom + dad + kids).

I saw no one in the video determining anyone's sexuality. Could you please point out that to which you refer? What is disturbing in my mind is that you do not seem to be willing to allow a lesson to take place that gives children permission to be who God made them. That would give you and religion as you see it the means to make that determination for them. My reading of the bible would put that up there with playing God.

I find it curious that you accuse NOM of not posting a link to fox news story. Are you referring to the video above that is the fox news story? It clearly states that the school district maintains that MOST students and parents were ok with the teaching. It doesn't state that all the parents were notified. And even if they were notified, what is a parent supposed to do? Take the child out of school? Pay thousands of dollars to private schools? Tell their children to wear earplugs during class?
Public schools are there to teach Math, Writing, Reading, Speaking, Science, and maybe even some things like Art, Drama, Music, Computers, etc... They are not in place to indoctrinate children into a way of life. Teach anti-bullying, that's great. But, don't tell an impressionable young child that they can choose to be a boy or a girl, or neither. (incidentally, what does that make somebody?)

Scott, I'm referring to those who claim that homosexuals are "born that way" and to those on this blog who claim that some of these kids who are being taught this tripe are gay when they haven't even hit puberty yet. A child's gender can be determined at birth but not his sexuality. When a 7 year old boy says that he doesn't like girls, should we hold him to that for the rest of his life?!!
Watching this video was nauseating. What kind of imbeciles allowed their children to be lied to like this?? This is all just the opinion of those who desperately want to get their hands on children. I really resent same-sex advocates who cannot and will not leave children alone. They are actually TARGETING children, as we all now know, because they believe if children are indoctrinated well, SSM and similar disorders acceptance is a lock.
