Rep. King to propose cutting DoJ funding equal to cost of DOMA defense

Congressman Steve King has a way of making the DOMA defense budget neutral:

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is planning to offer an amendment to slash as much funding to the Department of Justice as would have been used to defend the Defense of Marriage Act.

"What I intend to do, and there are other solutions that are offered, and I believe that the Speaker is focused on this, as well ... is to offer an amendment on an appropriations bill that would cut the funding to the Department of Justice in an amount yet to be determined that would be equivalent to that amount that they would otherwise use to defend the Defense of Marriage Act," King said Tuesday. It's stupid is what it is... That means any DOJ case you might be against or FOR will suffer for at least that year. It's Americans you hurt not the beurocracy... As republIcans I thought this would be obvious to u... Like saying raising taxes on big business just hurts the end buyer who ha to pay the difference when buying the product... You make the American people who await their day I court suffer.

So if the DOJ won't defend DOMA in court then they are using less resources and won't need the funds allocated. Sound 'Hawkeye' reasoning Rep. King, I like it!

Let's look at the litigation on which the DOJ has been spending taxpayer money.

They haven't been prosecuting crimes which injure American citizens, they have been litigating against the States of The United States of America! The classic example is the DOJ lawsuit against Arizona as it attempts to protect itself against the ravages of illegal immigration. Yeah, it would be a tragic loss if that sort of litigation by the DOJ were brought to a screeching halt!
