Are You Still In?

Dear Marriage Supporter,

Last Friday I announced the launch of NOM's Summer Membership Drive which is absolutely critical if we are to carry on our essential work.

I need to know, are you still in? Please immediately make your membership donation of at least $35 so that I know you are still standing with us. The fight for marriage and religious liberty sits on a knife-edge, teetering between preservation and devastating loss. We are depending on you and all our supporters for the resources needed to prevail in this historic battle.

NOM is working night and day to protect the rights of Americans to live out the truth of marriage in their daily lives and at work. We're taking on the Obama administration's relentless attempt to advance an extremist gender ideology. We're working alongside allies in the states to pass, and then defend in court, legislation protecting marriage supporters and preserving the security of women and girls. And we are taking on the rich and the powerful, including billionaire sports team owners, who want to punish states that have the decency and common sense to prohibit men from invading intimate restroom and shower facilities reserved for women.

But none of this will be possible if we don't get a strong response to our Summer Membership Drive. And I have to tell you, I am concerned. So far, the response has been lackluster.

I've seen this type of thing happen before. Some people are preoccupied with family vacations and other matters. Some intend to donate but get distracted. While others figure that someone else will give and solve the problem.

But I want you to know the truth of what we at NOM are dealing with — we need you to take a moment to step up and set aside other things for a couple of minutes to make a membership contribution of at least $35. If you have been blessed with greater resources, please consider a contribution of a higher amount. We really need it. There is nobody else to step up — we need you! Long gone are the days when we had reserves stashed aside to cushion against a slow period of fundraising. We are lean and mean, and we are entirely dependent on your generosity.

Two examples of NOM's most recent work illustrate how important membership support is:

Recently, we launched a campaign in Missouri targeting Republican politicians who betrayed their constituencies and helped defeat a measure set to go before voters allowing them to protect supporters of marriage from attacks by government and LGBT extremists. Because of their betrayal, legislators like Rep. Anne Zerr have subjected churches, pastors, religious charities and schools, individuals and small businesses to lawsuits, fines, the loss of their livelihoods and the ruin of their reputations. NOM is determined to hold these legislators accountable.

We are keeping our promise to Missourians to be their voice in the halls of power and to hold accountable anyone in public office — Republican or Democrat — who betrays the values of the people that elected them into office and sides with radical LGBT activists in order to fill their own campaign coffers.

We've also been keeping up pressure in Congress via a petition to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to move the very important First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) toward a full vote in the House.

In the coming days, we'll be delivering tens of thousands of signed petitions directly to the U.S. Capitol to make sure that the members of the OGR committee know how important this issue is. People must not face discrimination and legal pressure from the government simply for trying to live out the truth of marriage in the conduct of their day-to-day lives, and FADA is critical, “must pass” legislation to protect against this.

If you've already made your membership contribution of $35, I sincerely thank you. Please consider making an additional contribution on behalf of others who would like to give but can't - perhaps they are tied up with their families and away from their computer, or perhaps they are a victim of the Obama economy where the rich have thrived but average Americans have seen real wages decline precipitously. If you can do a little more than your fair share, that would be huge.

Whatever you can give in response to this critically important Summer Membership Drive, please act today. As I said earlier, I am concerned and need to know that you are still in the fight with us.

Faithfully,

Brian S Brown
