Washington – The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today launched an online television ad in South Carolina urging voters to "Dump Trump" after presidential candidate Donald Trump abandoned the fight for marriage even though 78% of South Carolina voters and over 50 million people in other states cast ballots deciding that marriage should be only one man and one woman. The ad includes audio of Trump telling an MSNBC interviewer in the wake of the US Supreme Court decision redefining marriage, "You have to go with it. The decision’s been made and that is the law of the land."

"Donald Trump abandoned of the fight for marriage in the wake of the illegitimate, anti-constitutional ruling of the US Supreme Court and in the process he quit on the 78% of South Carolina voters who acted to preserve marriage and the more than 50 million voters in other states who similarly voted for true marriage," said Brian Brown, NOM’s president. "We are urging South Carolina voters to "Dump Trump" because he lacks the courage and character to fight to restore marriage to our nation’s laws and reverse this illegitimate Court ruling."

NOM has endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz in the race for president, calling him a true marriage champion. Cruz signed NOM’s presidential marriage pledge committing to take specific actions as president. He is the author of a proposed constitutional amendment to restore the right of states to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and is co-authoring federal legislation to protect supporters of traditional marriage from discrimination by the government for staying true to their beliefs about marriage in their daily lives. Donald Trump did not sign MOM’s pledge.

"When it comes to the issue of marriage, the differences between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump could not be clearer," Brown said. "Ted Cruz is a champion while Donald Trump is a quitter. The people of South Carolina should not cast a vote for someone who so willingly dumps them at the moment they need a leader to step up to fight for their vote for marriage. It’s time to dump Trump."
