NOM BLOG

There's more you must know . . .

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I wrote you just a few days ago about our efforts to see that the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) becomes the law of our land at the Federal level. I asked for your help because we must raise $100,000 by August 15 in order to be fully armed for this battle.

But we are also working tirelessly to get FADA on the agenda of all 50 states, as well. Supporters of the traditional view of marriage must be protected from persecution at every level. Why?

Because activists on the left are working harder than you can believe to marginalize us and make sure we are punished by government at the local, state and national levels. You need to know that . . .

  • They are backing legislation that will give gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people special legal rights to demand that the federal government investigate anytime they claim they have been discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • Their agenda is called "Beyond Marriage Equality," and what they are pushing specifically denies the right of people of faith to avail themselves of protections guaranteed by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act . It's an outrageous attempt to persecute Americans who believe in God.

  • The agenda being advanced by the left will have a catastrophic impact on every single American as it covers housing, employment, access to public places, federal funding, credit, education and jury service. Gays and lesbians get special legal rights and can beckon the government to target people of faith for investigations and punishment, while Americans who believe in God get the shaft.

  • Help end the attacks on those of us who refuse to abandon the biblical and historical view of marriage by helping NOM enact the First Amendment Defense Act at the federal level and in the states. Give now!

We urgently need your financial help today to carry the fight forward. Please consider a generous contribution of $20, $50, $100 or $500 or more. All gifts will be put to immediate use fighting for your freedom, protecting people who support marriage and restoring the definition of marriage between one man and one woman.

Generous supporters have pledged $250,000 to match any gift for the next 30 days. That means your gift of $50 becomes $100 and your gift of $250 becomes $500 and so forth. This is a tremendous opportunity to make an immediate impact!

I know — it is easy to get frightened by this boldness of the left in pursuing policies that target people of faith, churches and religious groups. It is easy to feel overpowered by the loud voices and strident demands of those who refuse to accept people who hold a viewpoint that differs from theirs — even when that viewpoint is based on historical and religious tradition and when the action the Supreme Court took was illegitimate.

But please do not lose heart! I know I will not be bullied into quitting this critical fight — and I need to know that you will not be either.

Take a stand for marriage by making a gift today. Please consider a generous contribution of $20, $50, $100 or $500 or more. Your gift will be put into immediate action defending your freedom and to help restore the meaning of marriage.

    Defend Marriage Today

I do not think it is American for a narrow special interest group to flex its muscle to discriminate against and persecute the American people. The only way their agenda will pass Congress is if we fail to rise to the challenge and falter in the face of this threat.

We must be determined! We must defeat their agenda.

Men and women have given their lives to create and maintain America as a "nation under God with liberty and justice for all."

I am not giving up my right to liberty and justice — my right to hold religious convictions that tell me that marriage is a union between one man and one woman. Will you stand alongside me in this battle?

Take a strong stand today and make your voice heard. Give now!

My friend, I will fight for our religious freedom as long as there is breath in my body. I will work hard to get the First Amendment Defense Act passed by Congress and similar laws enacted at the state level. I will give every ounce of strength I have to defeat the attempt to persecute Christians and other people of faith.

Will you stand strong beside me? Will you add your voice to mine? Will you keep fighting this battle — today and for as long as it takes to ensure that religious freedom is not discarded on the battlefield of so-called "equality" that totally ignores men and women of faith and the values we hold?

I am counting on you. I know that, with your help, we will meet our goal of raising $100,000 by August 15. We must fight persecution. We must stand up tall and say, "I will not let Americans lose the religious freedom that is part of the fiber of our nation.

Stand with me. Please. Your gift today will be immediately invested in this massive battle, and I'll carry with me the confidence that I can count on you as I stand against those who only want to see us silenced.

    Faithfully,

    Brian S Brown

P.S. We will not stop fighting. We will not be silenced. And we will not give up our religious freedoms — and our First Amendment rights. NOM needs your help in this monumental struggle to protect you and every person of faith in our nation from persecution, retaliation and punishment. Please make your best gift today. All gifts will be put to immediate use. Our task may seem overwhelming, but together we can — we must — prevail.

And don't forget that generous supporters have pledged $250,000 to match any gift for the next 30 days. This is a tremendous opportunity to make an immediate impact!
