"The lawlessness of this administration has reached epic proportions…attempting to force same-sex marriage on the country despite federal law and the Supreme Court ruling that marriage is the purview of the states." — Brian Brown, President of NOM —
Washington, D.C. — The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) applauds, and joins with, the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP) in calling for the impeachment of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. Since last summer's U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) case, the Obama Administration has been lawlessly promulgating rules and directives recognizing same-sex marriage and forcing the redefinition of marriage on the states contrary to the intent and language of the DOMA ruling.
Yesterday's demand for Mr. Holder's impeachment came only one day after the Attorney General stated that Attorneys General at the state level do not need to enforce state marriage laws and constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
"Mr. Holder's statement regarding state Attorneys General not having to enforce and defend state laws is the latest power grab by this administration. Holder is advising his counter-parts in the states to forsake their oaths-of-office and the people who elected them. This is utter anarchy and the nation's top lawyer is leading the rush to lawlessness," explained Brian Brown, NOM's President. "To refuse to defend duly enacted laws and constitutional amendments is to trample on the sovereignty of the people and rule of law. But Mr. Holder does not seem to care about these things."
CAAP's President, Reverend William Owens, held a press conference calling for Mr. Holder's impeachment and the launching of a petition drive seeking to get one million people to join in this call. For months NOM has been decrying the lawless use of executive power by the Obama Administration to force same-sex marriage on the country and has joined in the demand for Mr. Holder's impeachment.
"The lawlessness of this administration has reached epic proportions with seemingly every facet of the federal government attempting to force same-sex marriage on the country despite federal law and the Supreme Court ruling that marriage is the purview of the states. A prominent group of African American pastors are calling for the impeachment of Eric Holder, and are circulating a petition asking Americans to join with them in demanding that Attorney General Eric Holder be impeached. NOM supports their endeavor," stated Brown.
