"Mark Harris has proven himself to be a champion for marriage, life and religious liberty. He not only talks the talk, he walks the walk." — Brian Brown, NOM president —
Washington, D.C. — The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today endorsed Mark Harris in his campaign for US Senate seeking to replace Sen. Kay Hagan. The primary election is May 6, 2014.
"It has been our great pleasure to work alongside Mark Harris and we are honored to endorse him," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "Mark Harris has proven himself to be a champion for marriage, life and religious liberty. He not only talks the talk, he walks the walk."
NOM was a founding member of the Vote For Marriage NC coalition that led the campaign resulting in passage of the state’s marriage amendment in 2012 and was the largest contributor to the campaign, donating over $427,000 to the effort.
"We fought for the marriage amendment from the outset, urging its passage in the Legislature, and then contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to urge its adoption during the campaign," said Brown. "Mark Harris was a real leader who made passage of the measure a personal priority. He served as Chairman of the campaign, enlisted the faith community to support it and was a key public spokesperson throughout the campaign. His leadership was a major factor in the passage of the amendment and his support never once wavered."
