Why Marriage is Essential to a Thriving Society

From Focus on the Family's talking points on Marriage:

- Marriage provides important benefits to society that no other institution can. Marriage:
- Regulates sexuality. Marriage establishes sexual guardrails, which remain a requirement for all successful societies.
- Socializes men. A society's most serious problem is the unattached male, and marriage links men to women who help channel male sexuality and aggression in socially productive ways. Marriage and parenthood socialize men to care for and respect their wives, other women and children.
- Protects women. Without a social norm of monogamy, women become commodities to be used and discarded.
- Provides children with a mom and a dad. Both mothers and fathers contribute in unique and irreplaceable ways to their children that prepare them to contribute to, and continue a flourishing society.

    MARRIAGE OR CIVIL UNION

My generation was brought up to believe that homosexuality was wrong, whether Catholic, Protestant, Jewish or any other faith.

My children are much more accepting of the homosexual lifestyle, because this is being taught in the school systems today.

I care for all people, gay or not, who treat me with respect.

Marriage license ideology is being destroyed. Marriage is sacred to most and carries with it responsibilities to your husband or wife. A marriage license is to acknowledge the life partnership of a man and a woman.

Any two men or women who chose to be together for life, should be proud with acknowledgment of Civil Union. I can respect this, and wish others would to. Accepting Civil Union would put all of this rhetoric for gays aside, and they could peacefully go on and live their lives very happily.

For gays to push for a marriage license, and to receive it, willfully destroys the meaning of what a marriage license stands for, between a man and a woman!
