San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone will speak on the importance of marriage, particularly to children, at the March for Marriage in Washington, D.C., March 26, the date of the U.S. Supreme Court hearing on California’s Proposition 8.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent letters to all American dioceses asking them to promote participation in the March for Marriage. The event is organized by the National Organization for Marriage, and is supported by a coalition of 30 organizations including Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council, said Thomas Peters, one of the organizers.
“It’s an opportunity to show the positive face of the pro-marriage movement and to call on the Supreme Court to respect the seven million Californians who voted to enact Prop. 8 in 2008,” Peters said.

It will nice to hear positive speakers on the subject, instead of all the bashing of the poor blameless couples that can't have children. It will be especially nice to hear on the day that arguments will allow the Supreme Court to finally strike down this gay marriage nonsense everywhere, once and for all. Now that will be positive!
A couple things:
A. "...(SSM) disadvantages children because it would establish the principle the children don't need a mother and a father."
No, legalized divorce did that a long time ago. Abp. Cordileone confuses a legal principle with sociological one.
B. CRSmith, anyone with DECENT understanding of civics and/or current events knows that even if SCOTUS upholds DOMA and Prop 8 that will not abolish SSM in the 9 states where it already exists. Ain't gonna happen.

"No, legalized divorce did that a long time ago. Abp. Cordileone confuses a legal principle with sociological one. "
Divorce was never illegal in the first place. We are essentially seeing the effects of the counter-culture movements from the 60's and 70's today just as we are seeing the economic collapse from the progressive movement of the early 1900's, 30's and 60's.
"even if SCOTUS upholds DOMA and Prop 8 that will not abolish SSM in the 9 states where it already exists. Ain't gonna happen."
No one said that they would.
" if SCOTUS upholds DOMA and Prop 8 that will not abolish SSM in the 9 states where it already exists."
Brick by brick, Will.
When SCOTUS upholds DOMA and Prop Gr8 it will send a message to the fence setters that being opposed to special consideration for sexual deviants is morally Constitutional.
Divorce courts try to keep both parents in the life of the child with structured visitation rights.
That is an attempt to salvage rights, and not a denial of such rights.
Zack, CRSmith did say just that.
Randy, you might be overestimating the number of fence-sitters.
Rick, you'll have as much luck dismantling heliocentric theory.
Will:
Perhaps you didn;t hear the news out of the European Space Agency today:

Rick, I read to linked article in your blog post. Where does it say heliocentrism has been refuted? You've got great taste in music, at least.
It is the Copernican Principle itself that died this morning, Will.
Brick by brick.
Will Fisher, but it will deter state level courts in future cases from discovering the "right" to SSM and it will reveal that courts in MA, CA, IA and CT were blatantly out of step with the constitution
Mikhail, I don't know if you noticed, but SSM's last few wins have been in legislatures and at the ballot box. At best for you, SCOTUS will keep it in the political process. That not good news for you.
How is it not good news for us, Will? SSM failed in Hawaii and Wyoming legislatures and is struggling in the other state battles. We've had far more successes at the ballot box than SSMers, who barely won in four heavily Democratic states after outspending us by millions of dollars and having the endorsement of every Democrat politician, celebrity and company. And while the people of Minnesota rejected the marriage amendment, it's questionable whether a majority there supports ssm. Even still, SSMers don't want the people of Iowa or New Jersey to vote directly on marriage.
Then there is the inconvenient fact that ssm brings no benefit to society, and no coherent argument has been made for the elevation of same-sex romantic relationships above all other nonmarital arrangements. The only thing your side has going for it is bullying and intense social pressure, and a decline of a strong marriage culture. Those two things are the only fuel left for any success of the ssm movement; and once voters think clearly and deeply about the issue, the success will be gone.
The last sentence doesn't sound right. I guess I should say: "...the success will end."
It is still not right, Ash. The success will only continue.
Not for the pro-ssm side, Bobby.
Ash, let's check in 3 months time.
Let's put it this way.
The literally astonishing success of the Alinskyite brainwashing tactics of the pseudo-marriage movement gives them an understandably high degree of confidence that the tide of opinion is turning their way.
This is a catastrophic indictment of the ability of our nation to survive, since whenever 51% of the people are prepared to vote against biology itself, things are indeed bleak.
On the other hand, 51% of the people *are not* prepared to vote against biology itself.
It is merely 2 states which have voted against biology itself.
The rest is Alinskyite propaganda.
Do we have five Alinskyites on the Supreme Court?
Nope.
Don't think so.
So yes, Bobby, let's check in 3 months time.
