Today marriage will change in the law of the UK. It will no longer be based on the marriage idea. Instead it will be superseded by the SSM idea.

Either the union of husband and wife will be treated as distinctly sexual -- regarding presumption of paternity and so forth -- or all unions of husband and wife will be treated as if they lacked either husbands or wives.

The former means disparate treatment of marriage and SSM -- something that was already the case, justly, in terms of civil union in the UK. So this latest legislation was without merit.

The latter means pushing, through government coercion, for making marriage mean less and less and less. That, too, is unmerited but, if pursued, will harm society by harming obscuring the marriage idea itself.

Although SSM advocates work slavishly to avoid being held morally accountable for their attacks on marriage, history will hold them morally accountable for the harm they will have precipitated on this and future generations. However, as with the Communist nutballs of the past in the Soviet Union and elsewhere, that accounting will be forestalled until the walls come tumbling down and people are free again to take account and to hold people responsible. By the time that SSM is uprooted and marriage restored, in the UK, the damage will have been done and the hard work of restrengthening what stood before SSM will begin.

Rather than a good-faith, if mush-minded, effort to secure "civil rights" for homosexual couples, civil unions are in fact a cynical, calculated assault on marriage.

Given the grant of "civil unions", the legal sharpies knew, it were as simple as pie to file a lawsuit the very next morning, claiming that "civil unions" violate the 14th Amendment.

Zack, glad to have you aboard, but civil unions were, and are, nothing more or less than the Trojan Horse left outside the gates.

So because i support civil unions i should stop supporting NOM? that's like saying I should stay home on Election Day because a moderate Republican got nominated.

No matter the disaggreements i may share with the National Organization for Marriage, i will support their cause because who else will stand for the American Values System?
