Make it Happen! Cast Your Vote Today!

Dear Marriage Supporter,

You've heard it from many places. As often as it is repeated, it is nevertheless true: today's election is critical to the future of our nation.

Marriage...Family...Religious liberty...All hang in the balance.

Go vote for Mitt Romney. Don't be deterred by long lines or bad weather. Marriage may not survive another four years of President Obama's continual attacks on DOMA and his efforts to stack the Supreme Court with anti-marriage radicals. But with Mitt Romney, we are on the verge of electing a NOM Marriage Pledge signer to the nation's highest office, putting a marriage champion in the White House.

If you live in one of the four states voting on marriage today, vote for marriage—and take a couple of friends with you. We need every vote.

And if you don't, contact anyone you know who does with this urgent request. This election is too important for any marriage supporters to stay home.

  • In Minnesota, vote YES on the Marriage Protection Amendment.

  • In Washington, vote to REJECT same-sex marriage.

  • In Maine and Maryland, vote NO on same-sex marriage.

These are all critical and close, close races. In many cases, a few votes here or there could make the difference between victory and defeat.

Today represents an incredible opportunity to win a tremendous victory for marriage and religious liberty in this great nation. But we need you to play your part in it.

Victory is at hand—Be a part of it right now. Go vote...and help us save marriage!

Those of us in Ohio are counting on the rest of you today, because next year we face a referendum that would outright legalize gay marriage in Ohio.

So if someone out there was on the fence, and was maybe not gonna vote, please go out and vote for me!

Voting in a democratic republic is essentially an act that flows from freedom of conscience. A ballot cast in favor of the marriage idea (and against the SSM idea) is a vote to protect religious liberty and freedom of conscience as manifested in the legal system and ordering of society.

A vote for the SSM idea is a vote against all of that, as well as against the marriage idea.

    Vote for marriage, not SSM.

Thanks to the many people of the National Organization for Marriage citizens have the opportunity to cast their ballots for marriage and against the Specious Substitution for Marriage, aka S.S.M. -- a stark choice that merits a direct vote.

I'd be lying if I said I was confident that the male/female will be upheld in all four states. Here's hoping Marriage is protected and upheld, but if the polls are indication, I won't hold my breath. Then again, they don't always reflect how people will actually vote so I guess that's the silver lining here.

    Chairm:
"A vote for the SSM idea is a vote against all of that (freedom of conscience), as well as against the marriage idea."

This is utter nonsense. Chairm and others who oppose LGBT equality don't like it, but those of us who support same sex marriage have the same freedom of conscience that Chairm does.

I think there's usually a 6 - 7 point spread that underestimates support for marriage.

In North Carolina, the polls stated that 55% of the voters were going to vote for their marriage amendment.

Final poll gives North Carolina marriage amendment clear advantage
    http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/05/07/2787835/final-poll-gives-north-carolina.html

Over 61% voted to add this to their Constitution:

"Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State."

"Let the people vote". That has been NOM's mantra over and over. And when the people do vote, and when they vote in favor of same-sex marriage, will NOM be satisfied that the people have finally had their say and stop working against it? Or has that merely been lip service as long as NOM was confident that "the people" would vote the way NOM wanted them to?

  34. Posted November 7, 2012 at 3:14 am | Permalink

    Once again....... I ask......

    PROTECT... MARRIAGE... FROM... WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

You're not protecting your marriage from anything but the boogieman. You're the only ones trying to hurt anybody's marriage. You're trying to hurt mine. I'm not doing squat to yours.

You, your religion, and your heterosexuality, never has and never will have a monopoly on the idea of marriage. You will NOT be subject to lawsuits for practicing your religion your own stupid and ignorant and bigoted way. It hasn't happened. It won't happen. Get a clue.

But now I have the religious right to have marriage the way I believe it to be. And oddly, to me, it's based on what's in the heart, not what swings between the legs. Amazing how I'm focused on love an you puritans are focused on the very thing you call perverse.

You're not protecting anything except your own bigotry. And no, since I know you're going to say it's me who's the bigot for not standing there and taking your bigotry (the tired tactic you idiots all take), I'm NOT the bigot here. I don't appreciate your bigotry but you don't see me trying to outlaw YOU.

NOM needs to get over itself in a billion ways. You are on the losing end of history, of morality, and of just plain anything representative of a loving deity.

Gay "families"? Only a man and a woman can produce a family. When two men or two women can produce offspring on their own, then we'll talk about gay "families", 'kay?

And gay "marriage" is still illegal in 32 states, INCLUDING Minnesota, amendment or not.

    **YOU GUYS LOST SO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**

Actually, the results from 3 of the dippiest states in the union only proved that THE BALLOT BOX MATTERS when it comes to the validity of gay "marriage". Something you gay "marriage" advocates disputed - until last night (hypocrites). If the ballot box can validate gay "marriage", it can also invalidate it. Which means you people just lost your argument about due process. Don't think that the Supreme Court won't take THAT into account - it'll have to. Thanks! Sweet dreams!

@femeagle sorry, but genitalia doesn't define what constitutes a family. Nor does biological relationship of child to parent. Never heard of adoption, blended families or couples without children? Newsflash: those are families too. You are on the wrong side of this argument and Americans no longer buy your fear tactics and lies. I've been MARRIED to my same sex spouse for four years and from what I can see our marriage is superior to most heterosexual marriages. You lost, get over it. Move on and find another minority to pick on.

Here in the Midwest, we're not so easily swayed by big spenders and the opinions of Hollywood celebritiies. Gay "marriage"doesn't exist here, and never will. Also, we all have freedom of conscince but a vote for SSM is a vote against freedom of conscience. You have provided comments on this blogsite that have illustrated that much. Indeed SSMers far and wide have demanded that identity politics supersede freedom of conscience in both principle and practice.

Three cheers for equality (or maybe four cheers). I am so proud of the good people of Maine, Maryalnd, Minnesota, and Washington. I spent 4 days volunteering in Washington, and it is very rewarding to see the marriage referendum succeed.

I hope that the NOM staff and supporters aomeday come to see that supporting responsibility and commitment ofr all couples is a profound social good. Hopefully, we can stop arguing about same sex marriage, and turn our efforts to the many things that can be done to strengthenall types of families. Vive marriage!

Susan Rosenthal, equality already existed under the bride-groom requirement of marriage law. But the imposition of SSM-as-marriage is anti-equality for it places favoritism for the gay identity group over and above marriage itself.

The participation rates, where SSM has been imposed by whatever means under whatever guise, have been very, very low. Moreover, there is little, if any evidence that the imposition of SSM has promoted stability, in actuality rather than merely symbolically, for same-sex sexualized relationships.

While the Maryland referendum succeeded, it did so at the cost of defeating the marriage idea. That is hardly a victory of which to be proud.
