Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York City gave the closing benediction at the Democratic National Committee's convention and offered this line which is a veiled way of praying for the upkeep of the institution of marriage:
"We praise and thank you for granting us the life and the liberty by which we can pursue happiness. Show us anew that happiness is found only in respecting the laws of nature and of nature’s God. Empower us with your grace so that we might resist the temptation to replace the moral law with idols of our own making, or to remake those institutions you have given us for the nurturing of life and community."
As Steve Ertelt reports, numerous Democratic and gay marriage activists responded on Twitter by hurling the f-bomb at Cardinal Dolan.

Im not a Catholic (I'm Russian Orthodox) but I respect Dolan, I think he should not have gone to the DNC given it is pro-abortion, pro-gay and anti-christian. I mean he might aswell have prayed at an atheist convention like the so-called "Reason Rally"

If he was to dare show himself at all, then he should have come out hard hitting, clear and direct.
As it is, he has simply authorized and encouraged millions of Catholics to go ahead and vote Democrat with a clear conscience.
The Party doesn't even want god in, what in the world do they want with a Cardinal?
(Well, in the end he did what Robert George, in the Wall Street Journal, suggested that he do, that is, nothing. I sure hope these mighty thinkers know what they're doing... Because its beyond me. Apparently the best we can offer are implicit and coded forms of communication.)

I think your missing the brillance of Dolans invitation.
#1. He was invited to and accepted a request to lead the RNC in prayer
#2. Media and critics call him "too partisan" and the like for accepting..
#3. So..He says he would have done the same if the democrats nhad asked.
#4. Democrats take the bait and ask him...he accepts.
#5. Uses opportunity to deliver the (above) brillant subversive invocation that says..."here's mud in your eye"..
I cant see the downside for the Church or traditionalists. Dolan played it brillantly.. He could not have refused the invitation without looking nakedly partisan. So he uses the invocation to remind those who would listen that the Democrats are essentially godless heathens who cant defend elemental family formation or life in-vitro.
What Cardinal Dolan did was as brave as the ancient prophet Daniel, in the O.T. Good for him. He faced his lion's den.
