The Conservative Party in Erie County appears to be responsible for this anti-Mark Grisanti mailer that questions whether he’s a true Republican.
Grisanti, a former Democrat running in the most Democratic Senate district, was one of the GOP lawmakers last June to vote yes for same-sex marriage and had co-sponsored a measure that would reduce penalties for marijuana possession.
... The mailer features Grisanti in a 70s-era leisure suit and features images of a marijuana leaf and a same-sex wedding cake couple.
“We need a return to Republican values,” the mailer says, “Give him a piece of your mind.”

Got this one in the mail, along with the one from NOM. Unfortunately, Kevin Stocker is a lightweight and I don't evinsion him being able to beat Grisanti. We may have to wait until the general election in November, where the Conservative party has backed Democrat Chuck Swanick.
Groovy, baby
Not that this is really relevant to NOM, but why should marijuana, which is substantially less harmful and dangerous than alcohol and tobacco, and which has legitimate medical uses, be illegal?
Why would supporting the illegality of marijuana be necessary to be a Republican? If anything, the war on drugs in America simply heightens violence, wastes government money, and ends up with an intrusive police force.
Jon: The question is not whether Grisanti thinks Marihuana (correct spelling) should be illegal. It is illegal.
No one is saying all Republicans should voice their opposition to the legalization of Marihuana. But it happens that Grisanti has some weird ideas that might decide how his constituents will vote. Whether he wins or not, he has experienced a backslash per his vote for same-sex civil marriage in the N.Y. State legislature, though he campaigned to a different tune. It is a lesson to view for other politicians who think they can do that and survive politically (some indeed can).
@Little Man
Yes, the question is whether Grisanti thinks marijuana should be illegal. Just read the picture: "wants to legalize pot!" Yes, marijuana is currently illegal in most circumstances in most states, but that has nothing to do with the fact that this post is saying that wanting to legalize marijuana goes against Republican values. My question then, is why?
Also, I'm not sure where exactly you get that Marihuana needs to be capitalized and spelled with an h instead of a j. Any dictionary I look it up in has marijuana as the main spelling, with marihuana as an alternative spelling. So in that regard, they are both "correct", but mine is more popular.
