The Hero of G-Street

D.C. Police Chief calls "Leo" -- the security guard at the Family Research Council who subdued the armed intruder -- a hero for what he did today:

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the shooter walked into the lobby of the building at about 10:45 and was confronted by the security guard as if the guard was asking him where he was going.

The man then took out a gun and opened fire on the guard, Lanier said. The guard and others wrestled the man to the ground, disarmed him and waited for police, she said. The guard was then taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, the chief said.

The shooter is in FBI custody and has not yet been charged, authorities said.

“The security guard here is a hero, as far as I’m concerned,” Lanier said. ”He did his job. The person never made it past the front.” -- The Washington Post

Indeed, a true hero moves toward danger rather than fleeing.

Kudos to this guard and the other folks who subdued the suspect.

One shudders to imagine what could have happened if not for their decisive action.

Violence is never the answer, whether it's Matthew Shepherd, bullying in a high school hall, or the Family Research Council.

Security is the answer, particularly with the election coming up.

    Fast.

Agree with Alex. Posted this on my Facebook and I'll post it here, too:

"I disagree with the FRC's positions, but this is not the way to change hearts and minds or advance dialogue. Violence against someone who disagrees with you is wrong, no matter which "side" it's coming from. I hope the guard and everyone else at the FRC is okay."

This kind of incident is obviously deplorable. I, too, hope that the guard has a full, speedy recovery and all the other individuals who were affected are OK.

Alex, don't forget Jason Shepard. A tragedy equal to that of Matthew.

Ya Alex. What Daughter of Eve said.
And I add, save your silly two word propaganda sob story. Some one has just been shoot in the Nation's Capital by yet another crazed and hateful LGBT supporter. Have a little dignity and respect. And help us to bring down the dangerous hate that is coming from an out of control LGBT community and its supporters.
