Mark Steyn's Warning About Power and Expediency

Mark Steyn comments on the incongruities of the mayors of Boston and Chicago attacking Chick-fil-A but also being cozy with other groups that have said they want to put gay and lesbian people to death:

"...if you’re a feminist or a gay or any of the other house pets in the Democrat menagerie, you might want to look at Rahm Emanuel’s pirouette, and Menino’s coziness with Islamic homophobia. These guys are about power, and right now your cause happens to coincide with their political advantage. But political winds shift. Once upon a time, Massachusetts burned witches. Now it grills chicken-sandwich homophobes. One day it’ll be something else. Already in Europe, in previously gay-friendly cities like Amsterdam, demographically surging Muslim populations have muted leftie politicians’ commitment to gay rights, feminism, and much else. It’s easy to cheer on the thugs when they’re thuggish in your name. What happens when Emanuel’s political needs change?

Americans talk more about liberty than citizens of other Western nations, but, underneath the rhetorical swagger, liberty bleeds. When Mayor Menino and Alderman Moreno openly threaten to deny business licenses because of ideological apostasy, they’re declaring their unfitness for public office. It’s not about marriage, it’s not about gays, it’s about a basic understanding that a free society requires a decent respect for a wide range of opinion without penalty by the state. In Menino’s Boston, the Freedom Trail is heavy on the Trail, way too light on the Freedom."

When the winds change, and they most certainly will change, I for one will not be standing up in defense of the sexually depraved as I once did. The next time these miscreants scream about inequality on my watch their pleas will be met with righteous indignation; they will be reminded of how they tried to put their boots to the necks of those once foolish enough to believe these poor misguided souls were victims of circumstance.

Fool me once, shame on you!

    Excellent article.

It seems that everyone is now noting the hypocrisy of Mayor Menino. But as Steyn illustrated, the hypocrisy reveals that liberals clamoring for "gay rights" really care nothing about gays. They'll align with people like those who run the Islamic Center of Boston at the drop of a hat.

"Worse, same-sex marriage “promises to create all sorts of new problems” for the “wounded institution” of marriage—divorcing it further from its mission of responsible procreation and from the supportive norms of fidelity, exclusivity, and permanence.

Further, building on Corvino’s own concessions, Matt explains: “A future in which same-sex marriage is enshrined in the law is a future without meaningful religious liberty, freedom of speech, or economic freedom for millions of Americans.”"

As the arguments for marriage corruption crumble under their own weight we see fewer and fewer antagonists attempting to shore up their feeble rationale via the Saul Alinsky disinformation method.

    Did someone say “Islam”?

This is not an American issue. It is a western world issue. (Which makes it a threat to the world in general.) Islam and their societies and cultures, at this point, are the best counter offensive to this threat to human dignity and moral value.
    _______

Every time that a Middle Eastern or African country votes to put into place a more morally respectable government (whether Koranic law or other). It is a sign of hope! Why are these women and men, when given a chance, voting for firm moral law in their country? That, seen from the west, seems to limit them? Well, if you had a chance to vote so that your country would help you to educate your children that marriage is between a man and a woman what would you vote for? These mothers and fathers understand full well that the west of today will not consider them to be “free” and acceptable countries until they are selling pornography on their street corners; and holding sex liberty parades in after school down town festivals. Or until they are teaching gender theory in their schools and promoting radical feminism in their universities.
They can see this wave of out of control and lost immorality of the west coming at them in full force. They only have to watch whats happening in western countries right under the peoples noses. They are simply trying to protect themselves, and their children! What would your vote for?
    _______

As relating to the issue at hand, in this early part of the 21st century – thank god for Islam. And any eventual influence that Muslim's and their families might have on our own countries, culture and “way of life” is a welcome blessing.

(Well I didn't bring up the subject.)
