Archbishop-designate Philip Tartaglia of Glasgow could see himself being imprisoned for speaking out in support of the traditional married family.
“I could see myself going to jail possibly at some point over the next 15 years, if God spares me, if I speak out,” Archbishop Tartaglia said in an interview with STV News July 24.
His comments came just a day before the Scottish government announced it would legislate in favor of same-sex “marriage.” Archbishop Tartaglia warned that the redefinition of marriage will have “enormous implications for religious liberty.”
“I am deeply concerned that today, defending the traditional meaning of marriage is almost considered ‘hate speech’ and branded intolerant. Such a response is undemocratic, closes debate and is highly manipulative,” he told EWTN News on July 24.
Last month the leading Scottish lawyer Aidan O’Neill warned that same-sex “marriage” legislation will radically undermine religious liberty in Scotland.

“I could see myself going to jail possibly at some point over the next 15 years, if God spares me, if I speak out,” Archbishop Tartaglia said in an interview with STV News July 24.

Hogwash...Just fear mongering gone wild. If he's not imprisoned by what he says now, why would he in the future? This is rediculous, stupid even.
@ Rich,
Please does some research before you comment. This Pastor was arrested because Sweden had a law that outlaws criticism of homosexuality:

not true, pops
In england, they are so far left, that if you publicly say you are again homsexuality or pedophilia, you can get jail time!
@Rich....because if it becomes law, it limits speech of those that disagree. Also limits businesses that don't want to serve that portion of society. Think down the road...
Rich, it sure is heading that way. This is what the new fascism is. People want to not let Chik-Fil-A not open businesses because of its stance. They give death threats to those that defend marriage. Redefining marriage has huge impacts on religious liberty. Besides, why redefine when God defined it in the first place. He created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
If you look at how much has changed over just the last 50 years, this shouldn't seem surprising. In fact, there are numerous lawsuits already moving forward over this ideology. He probably isn't too far off in his comments. Religious liberty exists only insomuch as it is protected. And the erosion is already evident.
GIven the many who have demonized Chick-fil-a for simply speaking out for & supporting traditional families--you're really surprised at this? When Christians in Britain aren't allowed to vote? When churches in North Carolina experience hatred, intimidation, and even arson? When a man loses his job in Canada for simply tweeting that he supports the traditional family? Get your head out of the sand.
Meant to say, Christians in Britain aren't allowed to adopt, rather than vote.
Joe, "redefining marriage" is a meaningless term as applied by those who fear that which has been happening for millennia. Know your history and you will know that marriage has and does come in a variety of forms and one of them is as gay marriage. This is a fact and cannot be disputed. Because of this, you and others scream "threat to religious liberty!". Sorry it doesn't wash for one simple reason: one form of marriage is the fundamentalist Christian version, it legally exists, cannot be outlawed and allows for anyone who supports it to spout whatever they want. Hogwash again: no-one, no matter what they believe is going to prison for expressing their concerns. The Archbishop is scared of losing control; he is lashing out with shrill threats that are not based in fact. Let him scream all he wants. It won't land him in jail.
What a waste of time.
C. S. Lewis writes, "Every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before. And taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowly turning this central thing either into heavenly creature or into a hellish creature, either into creature that is in harmony with God, and with other creatures, and with itself, or else into one that is in a state of war and hatred with God and with its fellow-creatures and with itself.
Same sex (whatever it is) is the mother of all evils. Now the box of Pandora has been opened. Watch now evil after evil would be unleashed in the world.
This is only the beginning. But we who believe in marriage of a man and a woman should not give up, “On ward marriage solders, marching as to war.”
Homosexuality by definition is aberrant behavior. Not debatable.
Marriage can only take place between opposite sex couples. Not debatable.
Man was made for woman and woman for man. Not debatable.
It is time to take a stand!
Joe: Sorry, but if you believe in God, He made Adam and Eve AND Steve. All are made in his image (if you believe that kind of thing).
Happily, I am not so aflicted.
Religionists clearly have too much time on their hands, or are looking for an issue so they can feel relevant. Marriage is a civil act, not a religious one, obviously. What religionists think isn't pertinent.
@Rich using your relativistic argument, pedophilia has been going on for millennia as well as bestiality, incest, and polygamy, so should we just go ahead an legislate for all the above for that reason? Your logic implies there are no absolutes, so if true go ahead and make marriage a free-for-all. After all, if marriage is no longer an exclusive life-long, monogamous covenant between a man and a woman, who is to say it should be limited to just two people, or people at all for that matter. Hey, as long as it is loving and consensual said the 60 year old who wanted to marry the 12 year old.
