Black AIDS Institute: Obsession with Marriage Equality Hurting Black Gays

National gay groups pride themselves on inclusiveness but are they excluding the priorities of the group described below?

HIV-AIDS is affecting black gay men in the United States on a scale unseen among any other group in the developed world, said a report issued Wednesday ahead of the International AIDS Conference.

So grave is the crisis that in some US cities, one in two black men who have sex with other men are HIV positive, according to the report from the Black AIDS Institute, the only national HIV-AIDS think tank focusing on African Americans.

"AIDS in America is a black disease, no matter how you look at it," its president and chief executive Phill Wilson, who is himself HIV positive, said ahead of Sunday's opening of the six-day global conference.

... Wilson also faulted mainstream gay rights groups for putting the HIV-AIDS crisis on the back burner, now that it is no longer a pressing issue for affluent gays in big cities whose bigger concern today is marriage equality.

"There are almost no national LGBT organizations today that give a rat's a** about the lives of black gay men as they are impacted by HIV-AIDS, and that's disgraceful," he said. -- AFP

Uh, every LGBT group I know of includes information on AIDS awareness. I just went to GLAAD and HRC, and both of their websites include information on HIV/AIDS. Not sure where you're getting this idea that it's being ignored.

It's still an issue for affluent gays in big cities, it's just that there is so much gay money that they can afford to pursue HIV/AIDS issues as well as so-called ss"m."

OK,that's way over the top and untrue, obviously HIV/AIDS is not black disease otherwise there would'nt be any blacks in the world to make such a ridiculous statement, however, by what is being told from the messinger, the disease seem to have a serious effect on gay black men. The question that follows, why would any African American would ever support gay identity politics( including same sex marriage)? I think it is safe to say, GOD ESPECIALLY DO NOT WANT BLACK PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN HOMO ACTIVITIES, PERIOD! This is actually good news for AA, and society in general, further reasons why homosexuality should not be "legalized", "promoted" or acted on. Perhaps this behavior should be made illegal...? Mother Nature must be respected and taken seriously by our goverment and leaders, and equally by society our large....

Of course, statistically speaking, I would be interested viewing the research data on this issue.
