New Liberal French Government Announces Gay Marriage by 2013

Will the people of France have a say about this?

The French Prime Minster has told his parliament that marriage will be redefined and same-sex adoption brought in by the “first half” of 2013.

Under the previous administration redefining marriage was voted down, but the recent elections saw a change in power with the Socialist Party now holding a majority.

Newly-elected President François Hollande, of the Socialist Party, made an election pledge to redefine marriage. -- The UK Christian Institute

The EU is having so much problems and this moron is pushing gay marriage. This is why we are in the mess we are in.

With all due respect, while I am a strong opponent of same-sex unions, your preface of "Will the people of France have a say about this?" is mistaken. Our Founding Fathers recognized that an excess of democracy is dangerous.

Replacing mom and dad with the nanny-state is a great idea...if you're a Socialist.

The French people did have a say in it... when they elected their new President.

If your economic policies have failed, why not legalize sin to make it less noticeable. We have seen what liberal extremism has done to this country, we only have a few more months before sanity is restored and religious liberty is protected.

He "made an election pledge to redefine marriage" so French voters who went to the polls and elected a majority government under Hollande knew what they were voting for. It's democracy and the will of the people speaking decisively and not activist judges.

People are not one issue voters, Shane/John. A canidate can get elected even though he supports an issue that most citizens wouldn't vote for. Just look at Governor Jerry Brown of California.

And SS"M" supporters demonstrate just how much faith they have in the people's overwhelming support for redefining marriage when the subject of a referendum comes up. LOL!

"Just look at Governor Jerry Brown of California."

For the record, Jerry Brown ran on a platform similar to Obama's 2008 candidacy. Well the people seemed to be actually thinking for themselves because he was down in the polls, I mean way down. Then then they throw out their trump card Niki Diaz and wouldn't you know Jerry Brown and every democrat in that election trounces their GOP opponent.

All the same the numbers have to be there.

A survey carried out at the beginning of the year showed 65% of French people are in favour of gay marriage while 57% support gay adoption.

"Our society is evolving, lifestyles and mentalities are changing. The government will respond to that." said Hollande.

Gays in France make up 6.5% of the electorate, compared with practising Catholics at 4.5%, according to figures released by pollster Ifop.

Sw -- gay marriage is "why we're in the mess we are in." can you please explain that one???

SW: The whole reason we are in the mess we are in is because of your ancient, moronic, fear mongering beliefs you call religion.

When leftwing parties campaign and win on economic issues, and then switch to the culture war after the election, it usually means that they've already sold out their voters on the big stuff.

"The People of France" includes gay people, their friends, and families. Nobody has a right to deny them equal marriage rights.

They live in REPRESENTATIONAL democracy, as do we. Electing your leaders is your say.

Voters had the choice to vote for the UMP party to stop this. And they didn't. They voted them out.

The french voted for Hollande to desperately get rid of Sarkozy; that is why.... They did not vote for Gay Marriage or Euthanasia etc.

Hollande AKA The Pudding King will wreck France because he has god damn crazy policies and suffers from delusion.

For the record; he has NEVER married and left his common law partner Ségolène Royal with four children for Valérie Trierweiler, equally who has no intention of marrying. He is not in anyway a model of example for commitment in any shape or form.

He wants to tax incomes of €1Million per year at 75%.

Increase spending in France despite the fact they are financially dans le merde.

Recruit more civil servants when they have hundreds of billions of euros in debt to pay off.

Leave Afghanistan 2 years ahead of schedule without though of consequences.

I think this shows what is going to happen to France.

Marriage and family always were an impediment to the rise of the state/socialism/communism. They hasten their own decay who forward these "progressive" principles.

Okay, I'll bite. Why are all these *capitalist* outfits like Bank of America and General Mills so dead set on hastening their own decay, as you put it?
