Civil Rights Leader Resigns from NAACP National Board Over Gay Marriage Endorsement

Billy Hallowell at The Blaze:

The debate over gay marriage in the African American community continues to rage one month after President Barack Obama endorsed same-sex marriage. Weeks after the NAACP, an African-American civil rights organization, passed a resolution also backing gay marriage as a civil right, the Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr., a member of the organization’s national board, has resigned.

... “I want to thank the NAACP for the privilege to humbly serve in such an organization and thank all those I had the privilege to work with in the states of Iowa, Nebraska and throughout the country,” Ratliff said in a statement announcing his decision to exit his leadership role in the nation’s oldest civil rights group.

In addition to his work with the group, Ratliff is also the pastor of Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The Quad City Times expands upon the minister’s past history defending traditional marriage and railing against same-sex nuptials...

Those that count themselves as members of the African American community who are choosing their conscience over the color of their skin are demonstrating to the world how free they really are.

Per the Blaze article, felt the pastor's quote should be echoed.

"During a Statehouse rally in March 2011, Ratliff said his support for traditional marriage was biblically based, adding, “This isn’t a private interpretation, a Burger King religion, and by that I mean a ‘have it your way’ religion.”

Good to see another decent man of conscience leaving the corrupt NAACP.

While I admire Rev. Ratliff standing up for his principles, it's also sad to see a good man leaving an organization that needs men of his character. No doubt he'll be replaced by someone of lesser character who will do as he's told.

There, in a nutshell, is how once-great organizations become corrupted.

Pete's post is yet another example of the axiom that the only real bigots are leftists. Moreover, he continues to use an ideological buzzword (in this case "homophobic") left over from the Sixties. For his edification, that term (and its cousins, sexism, racism, speciesism, lookism, etc) are a set of propaganda buzzwords invented by the left (and made widespread by leftist media outlets) that have NO meaning. Their only purpose was to advance an agenda through the manipulation of language. Pete, its time to wake up!

Homophobic is a buzzword leftover from the 60s?

Sorry that you can't face the reality of everyday news, but religious-based bigotry has had a huge effect on congregations nationwide. But this fake NOM poster who posts here under what, 4, 5 or 6 names must know better.

OldKingBlog says above that racism is part of "set of propaganda buzzwords invented by the left (and made widespread by leftist media outlets) that have NO meaning. "

Well there you have it, black people suffered no racism in America according to a devout NOM member.

    Pete -

No one except the homosexuals are fleeing the Catholic Church because of its teaching on homosexuality. You give yourselves way too much credit for thinking that people really care that much about homosexuality.

This pastor would probably be picking cotton, if it wasn't for a different President who fought for equality. Now he would abandon equality for another minority. Shame on him. And good riddance.

It is truly encouraging to witness the strengthening of resolve of core Democratic constituencies against the shameful, cynical, orchestrated drive to impose gay "marriage" over and against the lawfully expressed will of the people.

Oh, this is gonna be an unforgettable election......

In the humble words of Padre Pio:

    "Hope, pray, and don't worry!"

But as for the elections, oh my goodness.

Things could not possibly be going any better for us.

I'm shocked at the idea that the NAACP would take up roots in such a behavioral gambit as this. The fact is the term "GAY" only represents a sexual preference and nothing else! It has nothing to do with Rights, Culture or any Human inititives what so ever. If you take away the sexual agenda out of the term, it means nothing at all. We have to began to measure what life means as opposed to what likes and or dislikes means to the needs of life. It's really sad that the NCAAP cares so little about what it was created for.

Can't stand the truth can you! You resort to the only defense you have, name-calling.
Man was made for woman and woman made for man. That is a biological fact.
Homosexual acting out is always a choice. Always!
Have an urge, an attraction, a desire, an obsession, does not legitimize its being acted upon.
If you suffer from this sickness you seem to defend, go get some help.

God bless Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. As was the case in the 1960's civil rights movement the truth sets us free. Strategic homosexual marketing is being found out to be the calculated farce that it is.

With all due respect to the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King, she is blatantly wrong in her comparison of racism against Blacks and homosexuality. YOU CANNOT EQUATE THE COLOR OF MY SKIN WITH THE PERVERSION OF YOUR SIN!

I wonder if Obama and the NAACP realize that in endorsing same-sex marriage, they are endorsing eugenics and denying the equal rights and equality and the source of civil rights itself, which is that we are all created equal, as the natural offspring of a man and a woman. Same-sex marriage means genetic engineering of people and human manufacture and materialism and slavery and ownership of people.

Not sure I understand; are you saying that if so-called SS"M" is legalized, then since marriage is a procreative institution, research into same-sex reproduction will be legalized? Please clarify; I'm intrigued.

    Yes, of course.
More important than legalising it, it will be making it harder to argue against it, by the psychological manipulation of the growing children to not see that there is anything wrong with it.
Slavory for centuries seemed normal to the average mind.

    Good summery.
    Clear.
“same sex marriage means genetic engineering”
Gets people to ask a lot of the right questions.
With the word marriage, these mad scientists, and their Wall Street bankers, will be able to work with much less legal, psychological and social restraint.
