Black Pastors Demand Meeting with Obama Over Gay Marriage

The Washington Times:

The Coalition of African American Pastors has demanded a meeting with President Obama to try to change his mind on his personal embrace of same-sex marriage.

The pastors fired off a letter this week to Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. asking him to set up the meeting with the president, and painted their quest as a civil rights cause.

"I can promise you personally, as an organizer of the civil rights movement in Nashville, I did not march one inch, one foot, one yard for same-sex marriage," said Rev. William "Bill" Owens Sr., founder of the coalition and organizer of the letter.

While saying they are proud of Mr. Obama's success and calling him the "fulfillment of our dreams for our sons," Mr. Owens and the 19 other religious leaders who signed his letter said the president's evolution to embrace same-sex marriage "has broken our hearts by using his power and position to endorse as a civil right something that is simply wrong."

Talk about civil rights. 28% of African Americans live in poverty, compared to 10% of Whites. And Obama's number one "minority" group that he expressly supports? Rich homosexuals.

Yeah, I'd be pissed too if I were a Black American.

    Ummm, Robert.

Your article criticizes NOM for calling black people black people..

To what, please, are Brian and Maggie supposed to respond?

Meanwhile, back in reality, this whole gay "marriage" thing isn't working out so well for The One.

    No sirree........

No, it criticizes NOM for calling attention to race when it's not relevant to the topic.

What these black pastors need to understand is that the Democratic party sees them as nothing more than votes and not people. They give this demograhpic welfare, section 8 housing, and the other federal goodies in exchange for their votes. It's slavery to the nth degree and the Powers That Be who control the DNC will not allow them to speak against their destructive agenda.

Yes Zack that is why I loved that video by the black Congressman West on Youtube showing how it is the Republicans are the ones who have helped blacks the most.

I encourage NOM supporters to watch it on YouTube.

Ridiculous words from the religious right as usual. -_- And perhaps some even from the religious left as well.

    Sean,

Your anti-religious bigotry is duly noticed. Fortunately for us the founding fathers of this once great nation saw you coming.

Everyone please remember to celebrate this 4th of July as the founders intended; a celebration of this nations demonstrated fidelity to God.

Not following. Are you saying Obama's expressing an opinion on marriage equality somehow kept 28% of blacks in poverty?

Obama certainly has a better economic policy for lifting minorities out of poverty. But if hardcore Christian activists have their way, they will install quarter billionaire Mitt Romney in the Presidency. Romney will then concentrate all his attention on making his 1%er friends richer and blacks poorer.

So I think African Americans who are considering abandoning the President over this might do well to reconsider their own economic futures.
