Video: Black Church Leaders Say Gay Marriage Not a Civil Right

From The DC:

The Daily Caller attended a meeting Wednesday morning held by the Congressional Black Caucus and the Conference of National Black Churches.

At the event, TheDC asked attendees if they thought it was fair to compare the fight to legalize same sex marriage with the civil rights struggles of the 1960s.

Oh look at those hateful homophobes! I think I heard one of them say they wanted to tie homosexuals to the back of their trucks and drag them till they fall to pieces!

Oh wait...I heard nothing of the sort.

Whether or not marriage equality is a civil right isn't up to a group of Black ministers. If the LGBTQ community was especially interested in what these chaps and their ilk thought, then the whole issue would have probably stopped at "it's a sin," and we wouldn't have gotten to this civil rights controversy.

"Marriage equality" is a disingenuous term fabricated by the radical homosexual lobby in order to win the war of words that has come to define all our culture wars. Killing babies (even in the third trimester!) became "women's reproductive freedom" and "choice" while to oppose the legalized killing of not-yet-born babies became "anti-choice."

Opponents of gender-neutral marriage DO support marriage equality: the right of any adult male to marry any adult female--and vice versa--assuming they are not close relatives. THAT'S marriage equality!

Members of the same gender are free to do as they please but their unions are not "marriages" any more than my close and loving relationship with my sister (and I am happily married to my wife) is a "marriage."

    Michael,
the only justification for civil marriage or a right thereto is implementation of the compelling state interest in guaranteeing preferential treatment to the formation and maintenance of lasting opposite-sex relationships. To permit benefits devised to reward those relationships for being opposite-sex,in recognition of the unique importance of opposite-sex relationships,to relationships that fail to be opposite-sex would defeat the entire purpose of marriage existing.

Well, that's true. Marriage is a civil right, but redefining marriage never has been.

What is the purpose of the institution of marriage? Nearly every society has developed this institution. Well, what is the purpose of a society? Its self-preservation is a top purpose. Preservation of a society requires new people to keep it going into the future. What is the best way to keep adding people? Children. What is the best way to create and raise children? Two parents and a family. Why two parents? Because it takes a man and a woman to make babies. Why a family? Becuase those two creators have the most interest of anyone else about raising the kids well. How do you keep those two people together to carry out the child rearing job? Marriage. Societies have invented the institution of marriage - a statement made before God and the rest of society - to raise children in the most effective manner. The instution is a method to shame people into not separating and to stay together for the purpose of raising kids and perpetuating the society.

Great post, Get to the Root!

SSMers rarely stop and think about *why* we have an institution called marriage.

All SSMers see is that marriage is an institution which has accumulated a great amount of prestige throughout thousands of years. And because this prestigious relationship involves a sexually-united man and woman, SSMers somehow take it as a personal offense to gay people. No thought is (or can be) given as to why this institution exists. All they see, in their child-like perception, is that the relationship of a man and woman is taken note of and celebrated by society; and they are not inclined to enter that relationship, so the relationships they are inclined to enter into must be grafted into marriage.

One would think that they should just create their own, new institution for their relationships. But they know that, on their own, same-sex relationships cannot compete with the man-woman relationship in terms of societal importance. Thus they must attempt to ride the coattails of marriage, without “getting to the root” of why it exists in the first place.

Lets also keep telling others that even a more basic truth is that man was made for woman and woman made for man. Homosexuality is sexual perversion. Society has a right and a duty to put restrictions on such destructive behaviors.
