AP: Iowa-Nebraska NAACP Leader Won't Back SSM

The Associated Press:

The president of the Iowa and Nebraska conference of NAACP branches says he's struggling with the group's national board resolution to support same-sex "marriage."

Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. told The Des Moines Register that the group's endorsement one week ago has made him uncertain about his future membership and leadership in the group. He said he's "praying over the matter."

Ratliff is one of 64 members of the national board of directors for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Ratliff, of Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, has long opposed same-sex marriage. He told the newspaper, "Marriage equality, for me, is between a man and a woman, period. There is no other definition for me."

Same thing happened with Ebonics. Right minded chapters of the NAACP were rightly offended and forced those chapters supporting Ebonics to reverse course.

The shockingly disproportionate, elevated level of HIV transmission in communities of color in the United States is directly due to stigma against homosexual and bi-sexual men. Whereas responsible public health professional work on the level of human reality, trying to reduce transmissions by reducing stigma, the selfish and hateful bigots of NOM fan the flames of that stigma, while encouraging other anti-gay bigots to think that the Catholic Church's dogma on sexuality can successfully be transferred to a whole contemporary population. Shame on this particular bigot for "praying" instead of thinking, and shame on NOM for not giving a damn about the plights of impoverished urban populations.

No Scott, that won't do. Individuals are accountable for their own choices. There's no such thing as "the devil made me do it." There's nothing "contemporary" about promiscuity; it's as ancient as mankind. And there's no escaping natural consequences. Blaming others for one's own foolish choices is a cop-out. Poverty does not force individuals to make foolish sexual choices. In fact, studies show that when men and women marry each other, their chances to rise above poverty improve significantly. The only "safe" sex is within the bonds of real marriage between a man and a woman, with complete abstinence before marriage, and complete fidelity thereafter. If one wishes to cast blame, one should look to political ideologies that encourage sexual experimentation outside the bonds of man/woman marriage. Religiously speaking, you just can't go wrong with chastity.

An organization with a name such as: 'National Association for the Advancement of Colored People' is racism. It is reverse discrimination. True democracy is color-blind.

Scott aRose. You are a preacher - preaching your ideology. How can we promote homo-sexuality without promoting the homo-sexual sexual act? One more sad existentialistic story by the same-sex civil marriage advocates. Blame everyone else for your situation. That way you avoid any guilt. From your comment, i gather you are HIV positive as a result of our stigma ( :) That's a good one! :) ). We didn't put the death penalty on you. We too carry the death penalty, just not so near.
