   I feel sorry for anyone who thinks Obama did this because he cares or that he ever was against same-sex marriage.

   Obama's embrace of same sex "marriage" will cost him the election.

   It is not the only issue.

   It is not even the most important issue.

   It is, however, the winning issue.

   This election will come down to a small group of persuadables in a few key swing states.

   This group will decide the election, and they have children.

   Simple.

   What separates them is natural procreation. You really need to stop trying to use other people’s children as pawns in your quest to impose your Godless religion on the rest of us.

   Actually, Bryce, this identifies the whole problem for you.

   Not "lots of groups" have children.

   Every child is the product of exactly one man (the father) and exactly one woman (the mother).

   Any other "groups" which "have" children, got them from one, the other, or both.

   For this reason, you can never win an election.

   While circumstances- uncommon and unfortunate circumstances- can deprive a child of mother and/or father, there is no getting around the simple fact:

   Every child deserves to have society protect *their* interest in being raised by their very own (male) father and their very own (female) mother.

   It is so simple that not even the New York Times can blow enough smoke to confuse this.

   This video made me think about the various marriage ads that will run this year, both in the presidential election and state ballot battles.

   It is not difficult to understand. Obama finds a person who complains about not being able to compete in society economically (it is always about money), and soon identifies a social class (perhaps a legally defined minority) that needs 'help'. That is, it cannot help itself. By unionizing, or lobbying for that social class, or getting government to give away funds or assigning staff to help this social class ingratiates this number of voters to him (Obama) and the people who share his power. If certain people in government don't help these pet projects of Obama, then he goes after them ridiculing them, or finding something in their past which defames them, or pointing out how they are not as 'helpful' as he is to these social classes.

   Therefore Obama's personal conviction about gay marriage is a decoy. What matters in a US President is not his personal conviction, but what he is going to do about it with the power of a US President. It is just one more instance in which Obama has positioned himself to maximize his votes. This has worked for him in the past, and it is a formula he believe statistically will continue to work for him. It is not just one isolated social class. Obama has many projects, each for a semi-helpless social class who desire more. The Corporations are not going to give it to them. So Obama positions himself in the power seat to extract from Corporations more taxes, so the government can do his 'charity' work. It a formidable formula for power, but it has one big blunder - what it does to the US economy. It has done so in all socialistic countries, because the economy cannot support too many parasites. For this, open up the treasure chest of the effeminate and 'gay' entrepreneurs. They do not engender the next generation, and so can more easily navigate Obama's economic wreck. Obama's opposition are hard pressed in this economy, giving him the funds to feed his NewsMedia, who will repeat his advice to all corners of the USA. Whatever his personal beliefs on 'gay' marriage are immaterial, because he will say whatever is needed to gain more power. And money is power in today's economy. The bad economy is Obama's worst and best allies. He is betting people will be only concerned with their personal financial situation, and not with the economy which is what the problem really is. It is a very powerful formula, and 'gay' marriage, as another complaining social class just thinking of themselves and not the patriotically for our Nation, is part of that formula.
