Starbucks CEO Admits Investors Worried About Company's Pro-Gay Marriage Stance

Drew Zahn at WorldNetDaily:

In response to objections over a public statement made earlier this year backing Washington’s same-sex marriage bill, the leadership of Starbucks Corporation assured its investors not to worry, for profits have never been better.

Starbucks President and CEO Howard Schultz fielded questions from shareholders over whether taking a stance on the controversial issue would dilute the company’s bottom line, particularly in nations where the company is expanding but homosexuality is widely considered immoral.

“I would say, candidly, since we made that decision, there has not been any dilution whatsoever in our business, and as you can see, shareholder value has increased significantly,” Schultz replied. “Performance in many ways should be one of the metrics to decide whether or not this decision in any way has been dilutive, and it hasn’t.”

But now, the National Organization for Marriage has determined to put a dent in that boast, launching the Dump Starbucks campaign, urging supporters of traditional marriage to sign a pledge to boycott the popular coffee seller.

Go to DumpStarbucks.com to join nearly 38,000 people who have already signed the pledge!

And yet you barely have 40000 people. Yep that's going to easily create a "dent" in a multi-billion dollar company lol.

Oh please, what a spin. Starbucks investors are ecstatic about their stock and the companie's forward thinking. And I'm sure Schulz is happy with his decision to support equality. By and large, the general public see this boycott as a tantrum, much like the attack on JC Penny's over having Ellen as a spokesperson.

It'll be interesting to see how well Starbucks does in expanding markets that have a traditional view of marriage. People should know where their money is going, and make purchasing decisions accordingly.

@Sean...38,000 God fearing people, and growing. Remember, true Christians will boycott for LIFE.

@Pete...Marriage equality already exists. A homosexual lives under the exact same marriage laws that I do. How is that not "equality"?

I didn't sign the petition. I'll be damned if I'm going to give the SSMers another venue to track me down. But I did stop going to Starbucks and buying their products.

    Pete -

Did you miss my comment yesterday that said how JC Penny's stock has dropped since Ellen was brought on?

Mantronikk, what a life you must live if you have a god you must fear. I have one we love.

Overcame, you mean it's dropped since they started their fair and square campaign. But nice try.

Starbucks should be concerned about HRC, if they attempt to back away from their pro-gay identity politics stance. They'll find that "tolerance" and "equality," at least the HRC brand, are cruel masters.

    DoE,
What do you think HRC would try to do? Launch a world-wide boycott, that potentially harms Starbucks workers, a large population that works for modest wages?

I'm betting there are many folks who stopped buying at Starbucks but didn't sign the petition for fear of the opposition's retaliation.

@Pete...nice dodge of my question. What? You can't answer it? What laws concerning marriage do gay men live under that I don't? Should people like you say "marriage redefinition," instead of the marginalizing misnomer "marriage equality," since homosexuals live under the excact same marriage laws that I do?

It takes a while for the corporate competitors, who have not taken a corporate stand for the re-definition of civil marriage, to plan, invest, and start chiseling away at Starbucks success. Right now, they don't see it coming. That's good, because then the competition can take them by surprise. Since a long time ago I've gone to their competitors and sometimes spend triple at their store just to help them out. I've also weaned myself from the Google engine, and never click on their advertisements. Competitors will catch up. One cannot protect 'ideas'.

Okay, the level of delusion here is phenomenal. In plain sight of an epic fail, you NOM regulars manage to see about one-third of one football stadium's worth of signatures as a success. Just for comparison, Starbucks has 1,000 times the number of people "liking" them on Facebook. That's 30,000,000, you utterly delusional fools. There has been ZERO impact on their business. ZERO.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I find calling for boycotts against companies irresponsible. Granted, this Starbucks boycott is really just a tantrum as mentioned above. But suppose that in the near impossible scenario the boycott will eventually make an impact, who do you think will feel the effect of it?

Not you, because you have already decided to spend your money somewhere else, where you may had spent it at Starbucks if not for the boycott. The management of SB is also not going to feel it, because managers are last in line in offering to take a pay cut. No, it's the hard working men and women on the work floor that try to survive on (near) minimum wages, try to keep their children fed and out of trouble. Those people are the ones that will first feel the effect of a boycott.

But again, that is hypothetical in the SB boycott case, as I don't believe it is making a dent so far.
