Why Did Obama Flip-Flop on Marriage? WaPo: 1-in-6 Obama Campaign Bundlers is Gay

The Washington Post on the money behind the morph:

The controversy that has erupted this week over President Obama's stance on same-sex marriage has cast a spotlight on the importance of the gay community to his re-election fundraising efforts.

Many of Obama’s key financial supporters are gay, including finance director Rufus Gifford and Democratic National Committe treasurer Andrew Tobias, and the campaign has held a steady series of fundraisers focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender donors.

A review of Obama’s top bundlers--those who have brought in $500,000 or more for the campaign--shows that about one in six publicly identify themselves as gay. His overall list of bundlers also includes a number of gay couples who have wed in jurisdictions where same-sex marriage was legal.

    Barack Obama, 2008:

"I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman... for me as a Christian, it is a sacred union. You know, God is in the mix."

Looks like God has left the mix.

Lefty, maybe God is still in the mix, but reason and logic are, too!

The logical reason is that Obama does not believe in God.

Marxist view hypocrisy as the weapon of choice in these matters

    Lefty:

Obama filled out a questionnaire in 1996 affirming his support for pseudo-marriage.

The man has been l;ring to you- and us- for over fifteen years.

I know you like the guy.

    But facts are facts.

Everybody knew that Obama supported same-sex marriage. It's politics. He has to get elected just like any other politician. His announcement today draws an even more distinct line between the candidates. Obama will pickup the votes from gays, of course, women, minorities (based upon immigration, too), the young crowd, the educated, liberals, progressives, and independents.

He really loses nothing as those who are against SSM very likely never would have voted for him in the first place. It's a good move on his part.

Oh, and as far as gays in the party - I've been in DC for 30+ years. There are gays who have worked in both parties and government for as long as I can remember. The Reagan White House had plenty. I know, I had a friend who worked there.

This will help us as many minorities such as blacks and Hispanics who have strong family values will now be under more pressure to vote Republican. Marriage is a winning issue and the conservatives can ride this to victory.
The majority of the all important independents and moderates are opposed to marriage corruption. The President has decided that the homosexual agenda is more important than the future well being of the USA. Let6 us not forget that in the past Catholics and Jewish voters voted Denocratic. Look for that to change.
Look for moderates and independents to vote Republican. Marriage is a winning issue. Look at the MA senate vote in 2010. Scott Brown versus a candidate who supports marriage corruption. A Republican won in blue state MA. We can ride this isssue to victory in November. A new President, control of the Senate, and an expanded majority in the House.

The Presidents decision to take the bribe money will cost him.

The "god" that you NOM folks worship was NEVER in the mix. He's an evil god, one that has no place in American law.

Obama's like a vending machine, insert a few coins and he'll pop out a favorable position.

    Bruce,

Romney has never changed his position on homorrhage. What has changed is society. Back in 1994, Romney said he’d stand for “gay rights,” but that meant something completely different in 1994 than it does now. Back then, “gay rights” meant the right to housing, the right to employment, the right not to get beaten to a bloody pulp by bigots. Romney was—and is—in favor of those rights, as any decent person would be. However, he has *never* supported rewriting the dictionary to indicate that homorrhage is somehow equivalent to marriage.

    Hope that helps! :-)

    Jeffrey,

If God (whether real or imagined) be evil, then the opposite, Satan, must be good. Are you really trying to claim that U.S. law should be based on Satanic principles?

I don't know why he flip flopped but I know that he made a crucial mistake. Many people dislike the idea of gay "marriage". They just pretend to be okay with it because it's politically correct. And as for the myth that he will pull in minorities, well he won't. Most minorities dislike homosexuality in general. Many of them will probably stay home on election day.
