Audio: Bill Clinton's Robocall Against NC Marriage Protection Amendment

Clinton's script is mostly a rehashing of debunked myths and falsehoods about what the Marriage Protection Amendment will do, but the former President's involvement reminds us that what happens in North Carolina today has wider consequences across the nation:

Hello, this is President Bill Clinton. I’m calling to urge you to vote against Amendment One on Tuesday May 8. If it passes, it won’t change North Carolina’s law on marriage. What it will change is North Carolina’s ability to keep good businesses, attract new jobs, and attract and keep talented entrepreneurs. If it passes, your ability to keep those businesses, get those jobs, and get those talented entrepreneurs will be weakened. And losing even one job to Amendment One is too big of a risk. Its passage will also take away health insurance from children and could even take away domestic violence protections from women. So the real effect of the law is not to keep the traditional definition of marriage, you’ve already done that. The real effect of the law will be to hurt families and drive away jobs. North Carolina can do better. Again, this is Bill Clinton asking you to please vote against Amendment One. Thanks.

As always, consider the source. Isn't this the same man who, on national television, adamantly told the American people "I did not have sex with that woman!"? And we all know how true that proclamation turned out to be, don't we?

It's amazing how the liberals just can't stop using this guy, who is the world's most infamous liar and sexual sinner, to try to carry their water. He's making these outrageous claims in this phone call and he's lying - which is what he does. It's like how his recording an ad for Obama about killing Bin Laden and how it ended up making Obama looking bad.
Clinton is a snake - if you pick him up and try to make use of him, he'll bite you.

Depends on what your definition of "is" is.

I know he's lying because his lips are moving.

Unless there is specific language in the amendment that first calls for citizens to publicly divulge their sexual orientation, their sexual behavior, or their political affiliation as "gay," and then bans them for affirming SSA, homosexual behavior, or gay political identity, in order to acquire a marriage license, there is no legal discrimination against "gay" people.

There is no prohibition on commitment ceremonies of choice, sharing bank accounts, making wills, joint ownership of property, powers of attorney, or freedom of association for as long as willing parties choose. Hard to think of a scenario where "destruction" is the outcome, unless it's neutering marriage, and the maternal, paternal, and child rights which become obsolete.

Let us compare California and Texas.

Which state has a legislature beholden to a sodomist agenda?

Which state has a friendlier business climate?

Oh gosh...we've wrestled with the domestic violence lie from the ssm movement in NC, and now Clinton is resurrecting the tired "marriage amendments harm the business sector" lie.

Bill Clinton speaks for equality. The NAACP opposes the Anendment along with Governor Perdue. Meanwhile, speaking for your side is Ron Baity, who this morning called gay people maggots who represent the filth of society.

@Dan: I agree. Bill Clinton has little credibility with regards to marriage. One of many reasons why DOMA is destined for the Trash Heap along with the poll tax and the grandfather clause.

B73, what definition of bigotry are you working under when you make your comments here?

Please plainly state the criteria for identifying bigotry such that your own remarks can also be held to those criteria and assessed.
