National Organization for Marriage

Washington, D.C. — The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today released documents showing that their confidential U.S. tax return containing private donor information came directly from the Internal Revenue Service and was provided to NOM's political opponents, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Joe Solmonese, president of the HRC, is a national co-chair of President Obama's reelection campaign.

"The American people are entitled to know how a confidential tax return containing private donor information filed exclusively with the Internal Revenue Service has been given to our political opponents whose leader also happens to be co-chairing President Obama's reelection committee," said NOM President Brian Brown. "It is shocking that a political ally of President Obama's would come to possess and then publicly release a confidential tax return that came directly from the Internal Revenue Service. We demand to know who is responsible for this criminal act and what the Administration is going to do to get to the bottom of it."

On March 30, 2012, the Huffington Post published NOM's confidential 2008 tax return filed with the IRS, which it said came from the Human Rights Campaign. The HRC has said on its own site the documents came from a "whistleblower." However, NOM has determined that the documents came directly from the Internal Revenue Service.

The document on the left is as it appeared when published by the Huffington Post. However, that document was modified in a failed attempt to obscure its source. There is a label visibly obscuring a portion of each page, and it was determined that information on the top of each page was also obscured in the version posted on the Huffington Post.

After software removed the layers obscuring the document, it is shown that the document came from the Internal Revenue Service. The top of each page says, ""THIS IS A COPY OF A LIVE RETURN FROM SMIPS. OFFICIAL USE ONLY." On each page of the return is stamped a document ID of "100560209." Only the IRS would have the Form 990 with "Official Use" information.

"Every taxpayer has a right to expect that its confidential tax returns filed with the IRS will not be given to their political enemies," said Brown. "Doing so is a felony. What makes this even more problematic is that the recipient of the confidential tax return is a group headed by President Obama's national campaign co-chair. This is something that one might expect to occur in the Czarist Soviet Union, not the United States of America. We demand that the Treasury Department launch a federal criminal investigation into the IRS and the Human Rights Campaign to bring these criminals to justice."

Either these thieves are complete morons, or they seriously believe they have embedded enough pro-marriage corruption judges on the bench to keep them out of jail.

I would have liked to have seen the looks on their faces when they found out that everyone on the donor list is an upstanding, God fearing, law abiding, and patriotic American.

    DOH!

Let's see - selling thousands of guns to known criminals, ignoring Congressional subpoenas, passing unconstitutional bills, betraying his oath of office to defend the law, leaking confidential documents to his friends.

The Hussein administration is nothing more than an extension of the Chicago mob. I wouldn't be surprised if his SS broke my door down and arrested me for writing this.

The outrage will end later this year.

    IRS says:

"Unauthorized disclosure of tax information is a felony crime, with a maximum penalty of a $250,000 fine and five years in prison. The law also requires the firing of
any federal employee convicted of this crime. If someone improperly reveals your tax
information, you may sue for civil damages of at least $1,000 for each such action."

    Whoever did this, shouldn't have.

    Undermining our rule of law.
ssm advocates have more in common with thugs in a banana republic then they do with ordinary Americans.

This crime will not only cast our opponents in a bad light, but it has the potential to gin up a larger discussion about the IRS and its unfair treatment of conservative groups.

The IRS is already being questioned by a few Congressmen on problems related to its treatment of various Tea Party groups. Perhaps those Congressmen could be made aware of the NOM situation, if they are not aware already.

With the HRC, all citizens are equal, but some are MORE EQUAL than others, and apparently, above the law.

Isn't this a non- profit that pays no taxes?
Why does Mr Brown refer to nom as 'taxpayer'

Aren't these the same documents that NOM has been ordered to release, again and again, in every court case they have challenged? Why is it a crime?

If Lefty is correct - and I have no reason to doubt that he is - then NOM needs to immediately file notice as to how many hits the HRC webpage recieved during the period the offending material was posted. And do it before that data is lost!

If HRC can be sued for $1k per action, and 1000 hits occured (probably a low estimate), then damges of $1M would be in order...

Why isn't this being covered by any of the news agencies? Seems like all the networks would be all over this if the tables were turned! I've challenged the TODAY show to check into this and give it some air time. It will be interesting to see if they do
