Brian Brown says if Democratic Party Endorses SSM "Democrats Will Lose Seats"

The Hill interviewed our President Brian Brown on the proposal recently endorsed by Nancy Pelosi to include same-sex marriage in the Democratic Party platform:

...“It’s an unmitigated disaster for the Democratic Party,” said Brian Brown, the president of the National Organization for Marriage, which opposes gay marriage. “This may play well in San Francisco, but folks across the country oppose same-sex marriage, including in key swing states.”

Brown said if the Democrats do put gay marriage into the platform, his group would be involved in races across the country pointing out what direction Democrats have chosen to pursue.

“You’ll see Democrats lose seats over it,” he said.

As we've seen in blue state after blue state, many Democrats oppose redefining marriage.

Eh....they'll lose seats regardless if they endorse same-sex marriage or not. Unless we have a huge demographic that votes soley on this one social issue without giving the state of the economy any consideration then that's a different story. But the Democrats with their mishandeling of the economy and their outright disregard for the voice of the people will cost them the senate.

I expect this year will see Democrats lose in the Senate and gain in the House. But I'm one Democrat whose willingness to directly volunteer for or donate to any candidate evaporates if that candidate supports SSM,and is not afraid to tell them that.

    Great point Brian:

Apparently these disgusting Dems did not hear the shot around the world in the last MA senate election. The one where a new Dem was suppose to replace Ted Kennedy until this blue state elected a Republican.
Marriage was a large issue in this vote. If the Dems can lose in MA then they can lose anywhere.

As long as idiots are allowed to vote ... you are right!

    @John N

But that was because Kennedy died. If he were still alive then that seat would have been considered a "safe seat" come the 2012 election.

Barbara Boxer's seat was considered vulnerable but she defeated her opponent by a 10 point spread. But that was because Gloria Allred sold my state out for money.

Diane Feinstein is the one to beat and I'm not too hopeful. But republicans are still going to take the senate.

The Republican Party would be smart to make this pitch to the Hispanic community. I think that there may be a threashhold for how much they will take of the Dems stomping on their religious sensibilities vs how much largesse they receive, both $$$ and amnesty.

I'm really hoping they do this, but don't think they will. If Obama wins, then they can do whatever they want and will almost certainly announce that they have finally "evolved" enough to come out and say that kids don't need a mom & dad if one of them is gay.

Obama losing both houses would be the next best thing to his losing the white house.

John N. , Scott Brown's victory had much less to do with the Tea Party/conservative surge and much more to do with a number of significant gaffes on the part of Martha Coakley.

No way Creighton. A Republican who is opposed to SSM does not win in blue state MA all because her highness Martha Coakley would not campaign and stand in the cold.
Scott reached out to us and we responded with our votes. MA has more independents then you think. NOM campaigned for him and he won. While in the state senate he fought for the right of the people to vote on marriage.
Look for him to win again in 2012.

John, I wasn't referring to standing in the cold. She failed to file 200k worth of personal assets in the race. She released a smear ad against Brown where Massachusetts was spelled incorrectly. She ran an elitist campaign of inevitability and, because of some questionable AG decisions, was torn a new one on 96.9, which reaches out to far more independents than it does conservatives in the greater Boston area.

You needn't tell me that MA has more independents. I've lived in MA for 10 years now. Coakley was a bad candidate who ran a negative campaign that backfired.

Brown didn't win because he is against marriage equality. He won because he was a likeable guy who was able to ride on a Tea Party surge while separating himself from the Tea Party and from high-profile Tea Party figures (Palin).

He's going to face a tough race with Elizabeth Warren.

He won because he was against this phony form of marriage along with other issues important to us moderates, conservatives, and independents.
He fought for the people of MA to vote on marriage and would defend DOMA if elected. Meanwhile the evil Coakley was using our state taxpayers money pursuing a lawsuit to overturn DOMA. As usual the liberal Dems thumbed their nose at the taxpayers and we the people and put immoral sexual special interests ahead of us.
We remembered and got out the vote. Anyways bring on Lizzie as she is another Coakley who supports the violent position of the OWS extreminsts.
