Don't Let Same-Sex Marriage Special Interests Control Iowa Politics!

Dear Marriage Supporter,

As you know, the National Organization for Marriage fights to protect marriage in all 50 states.

But Iowa is one of the states on the front lines and of critical importance—more so than most others.

When a panel of 7 judges imposed same-sex marriage on the Hawkeye state on April 3, 2009, same-sex marriage activists immediately focused on your state, pouring millions of dollars into the state to protect gay marriage in Iowa. And their most devastating weapon? Convincing ordinary people like your neighbors and coworkers that the fight is over and there's no going back.

But you and I know better.

Iowa is a key part of NOM's 2012 strategic battle plan to protect marriage—and that's why I am writing you today. This November, we have an opportunity to break through the logjam Senate President Mike Gronstal has single-handedly created, refusing to even allow a vote on the constitutional amendment to protect marriage.

Will you make one urgent gift to NOM right now to ensure we have the funds necessary to restore marriage in Iowa and to protect it across the country?

Donate Now

2012 is shaping up to be a make or break year for marriage.

The race for the White House is well underway, Congress is up for grabs, we're waging a legislative battle in Washington to stop DOMA from being repealed, and we have legal cases going all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

And beyond working to change the same-sex marriage regime in Iowa (and repealing the laws in New Hampshire and New York), we're also fighting in a dozen other states, protecting marriage in states where it is under fire (Rhode Island, Washington, New Jersey, Maryland, etc.) and proactively pushing pro-marriage legislation that will ensure what happened in Iowa isn't repeated in states like Minnesota.

Anything you can afford to donate is important, because with so many fights all over America, our resources will be stretched thin all year.

In the past few weeks, threats to marriage and religious liberty have also popped up in Virginia and Illinois, and we may need additional funds to fight in those large states as well.

The bottom line: 2012 will either be the year when traditional marriage makes a comeback...

...or it will be the year when the same-sex marriage lobbyists knock the doors down and begin their assault on marriage in all 50 states.

As always, the success of our campaign depends on you, marriage supporter.

Together we shocked the world in 2010, ousting three Supreme Court justices who forced their own personal views on the people of Iowa. And we can do it again!

Begin making plans now to join us at the LUV (Let Us Vote!) Iowa rally in Des Moines on March 20th at the Capitol.

And to protect marriage in Iowa and all across America throughout 2012, make one urgent financial gift today.

Thank you in advance and God bless you.

Says the special interest group who brought money from Rome into Iowa to attack Supreme Court judges and end their careers. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Money from Rome? NOM solicates donations from Italians? and then only those who live in Rome?
Strange? You would think they have their own politics to spend money on.

There is a difference between offence and defense, Bobby. And marriage deserves to be defended from the ongoing attacks by special interest groups.

Son of Adam, your side had there chance in court to "defend" marriage. Having read every minute of the transcripts, your side had no evidence of marriage being in danger or what harm there is.

So please bring your evidence of harm to marriage or stop repeating what we know is not true.

Right, SoA. Just like voting needed to be defended from those uppity women. Or segregation needed to be defended from the intrusive Northerners.

SOA: I see, anti-gay lobbyists should be free to spend millions buying votes but nobody else should? Just like Chick-fil-A should be able to spend money on the marriage issue but Starbuck's shouldn't, right? Yes, there is a difference between offense and defense. Clearly you've somehow bought into the fiction that vicious anti-gay crusaders are on the latter.

Great point Son of Adam: The people of Iowa have the right to defend marriage from the attack it is getting from far left extremists.

The most sickening part was when the judges imposed SSM on Iowa when they had no authority to do so in the first place. Judges have never been allowed to make laws. We the people make the laws. When we the people wish to vote it is we the people who are making the laws.
These judges deliberately violated their office by making laws from the bench when they have no authority to do so. The people are well within their rights when they demand the right to vote.

John: Judges are not only authorized but required to interpret laws through the lens of the governing constitution and to ensure that laws passed by lawmakers or directly by the citizens are not in conflict with that constitution. Civics 101.

Mike J,failing to require partners to be of opposite sexes destroys the entire purpose of marriage and removes all justification for the existence of marriage.Any claim to the contrary is based on completely false premises.

Bobby, you need to understand that anyone's advocacy of the "gay" position on homosexuality is an extremely offensive act.

Bobby, those fighting to abolish SSM are doing something good, those fighting to allow it are doing something horrible. There's no "equality" between right and wrong.

Mike J. SS"M" has lost most court battles, and for good reason. Nobody has the right to have marriage redefined to suit one's sexual preference. Nor does homosexual behavior have anything in common with being a woman or being black, a sophmoric analogy that most women and blacks overwhelmingly reject.

Just a few examples of how SS"M" will harm society is as follows:

    - Social security taxes will be increased (or benefits decreased) in order to pay survivor support benefits to homosexual “widows” and “widowers.”

    - Medical insurance premiums will rise to offset the higher health care costs associated with homosexual behavior (i.e., AIDS, colon cancer, hepatitis and other diseases) which are known to increase under same-sex marriage.

    - Homosexual couples will be given legal preference to adopt due to their inability to procreate. In other words, homosexuals will not be granted equal rights but super rights—rights that will supersede your rights as a citizen. Tragically, children will be treated as trophies that, in effect, validate homosexual relationships.

    - Children will be indoctrinated, with or without parent's consent, to accept homosexual behavior and same-sex marriage as the moral and social equivalent of heterosexual behavior and marriage (we are seeing this in our public schools already, especially in California and Massachusetts).

    - Your workplace will attempt to indoctrinate us to the same ends—and if you refuse, you will either lose your job or not be considered a “team player.” (This is already happening through “diversity” training in many companies.)

    - Free speech and religion rights will be curtailed as opposition to homosexuality is criminalized as “hate speech” (as is now the case in Canada and Sweden). Once same-sex marriage is approved, it will not be long before we will be fined or imprisoned for expressing any opposition to homosexuality. People with religious moral convictions will be considered worse than racists.

    - The government and its intrusive ways will grow as a result of the changes just reviewed. That’s why liberals love same-sex marriage—it means more big government. They will call for more government programs to fix the mess caused by the destruction of the family and more government regulation to ensure that their new morality of political correctness is imposed on us, our children, and our place of worship.

    Wow Son of Adam:

That post was just brillant and articulate. By far one of the best posts written here even better than some of the blogs. Thank for for this. I will print out this one.

Bravo, SoA. That should be posted permanently on this site so that we can just link the SSM-ers to it when they ask, over and over again, "What harm would SS"M" cause?"

tl;dr version (because I know my long response won't be posted): Everything SoA says is either a lie or a good thing if you actually think about it.

So yeah, it's probably one of the greatest things ever posted on NOMBlog--well, except for comments by the opposition, of course.

There are several examples that demonstrates the legitimacy of each of my points, Pat. And if you think that those consequences are a good thing, then you have absolutely no respect for the Constitution or the civil and religious liberties defined in the first amendment whatsoever.
