Same-Sex Michigan Couple Sue Over Adoption Ban for Unmarried Couples

The Associated Press:

Two lesbians who are raising three children filed a lawsuit Monday to overturn Michigan's ban on adoption by unmarried couples.

April DeBoer, with two adopted children, and Jayne Rowse, with one, are longtime partners and nurses who live together with the kids in suburban Detroit. But under state law, they can't adopt them as a couple, an option available only to heterosexual married couples.

... The lawsuit names Gov. Rick Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette as defendants.

"We have not seen the suit yet, but our job is to enforce and defend all laws as enacted by the Legislature," Schuette spokesman John Sellek said. "Any changes to a law would have to originate in the Legislature."

This is an interesting tactic. Either let same-sex couples marry so they can adopt, or let unmarried couples (regardless of sexual orienation) adopt. This could get interesting.

Tactic is exactly what this is. Marraige corruption supporters are using other peoples children as pawns in their quest to remake this nation in their image - in opposition to the laws of nature and natures God.

Which God, Randy? The US recognizes over 100 religions with over 300 Gods as valid. Perhaps we could go with Shiva, yes, USA-approved.

You're exactly right, Randy E King. The opposition has no answer so they quickly change the subject. They're so removed from reality that they've forgotten where they came from - a union of one man and one woman.

To put everything in perspective, we are talking about a same sex couple that wants to give a child a home. From this blurb, it sounds as if they have accepted the fact that they cannot get married, but they do want to adopt a child. What other recourse is there for them if they want to help a child?

Right Barb, since bringing up God has nothing to do with the subject either. And let's not forget the classy act of bringing up AIDS and NAMBLA.

The co-founder of NAMBLA was the founder of New Yorks very 1st LGBT organization.

I can see why the laws of nature would be so offensive to you Bill; natural law does not speak well of your depravity.

Arthur, children must be protected from being consigned to the custody of same-sex couples!

Bill,"Nature's God" (the only one who exists or should be believed in) is the simple necessary Infinitely First Cause that is the underlying reason for the laws of physics, etc. Our human reason should show us that the existence of two sexes in a species means that all sexual relationships within that species should be between individuals of the opposite sexes and failures to adhere to this norm rigorously discouraged.

Arthur again, they help a child by understanding that relationships such as theirs are indefensible.

"Nature's God" is equally valid as the Christian God. Louis E. continues to use the language that only physical dimorphism is relevant to coupledom. Nothing else, apparently, is important. Seems like the classic 'puzzle piece' analogy.

    These gals aren't a "couple". They're a "pair". There is a difference.

The opposition argues against the very laws that brought them into being. Kinda dumb.

Louis, you say that human reason "should" show us that same sex sexual relationships are wrong, but you never do actually provide a reasoned argument. You just state your conclusion over and over again without providing any reason to believe it.

Really Barb? The law against adoption by same sex parents is what brought these folks into being? I can't equity to hear the logic behind that.

Typical gays. They think that they should get everything they want and laws should be changed to suit them. I hope they lose and are forced to pay the other side's legal fees.

Tam,it is impossible to offer a reasoned argument against my position.Any contrary claim is based on nothing but irrational lust.

"Arthur, children must be protected from being consigned to the custody of same-sex couples!"

Louis, how old are you? That is an incredibly outdated type of thought (duck and cover doing a nuclear blast..it will help), and you are stating your own personal opinions as if they should be law without any kind of proof.

    Arthur,I'm 50,how old are you?
Increasing popularity of misconceptions can't make the truth "outdated".The existence of two sexes in the species proves more than you think it does,or "gay" philosophy can bear to admit it does.
Sheryl, they have the same obligation to refrain from and condemn same-sex sexual activity as anyone else, its innate wrongness for everyone is not affected by the existence, cause,or mutability of their desire to engage in such activity.Nor can they take away our right to live in a society that recognizes the unique, specific importance to humanity of opposite-sex relationships by guaranteeing to such relationships the preferential treatment that automatically deserve.

They have the same rights to marry someone
of the opposite sex just as every other American does.
What homosexusls want are special rights only given to this certain sub-sect of America.

Arthur, your opinion that what I give you are not facts is not a fact, but an incorrect opinion.
Yoshi, those children are harmed by exposure to same-sex couples, especially if they show no sign of breaking up.
