NOM's Regional Coordinator Christopher Plante talks with CBN News on the recent move by some mayors to support redefining marriage.
He says in response to the economic "argument" for redefining marriage: "When we talk about redefining marriage, we're talking about redefining terms like mother and father. And motherhood and fatherhood and binding moms and dads to their children is so much more important than the miniscule economic development that [redefining marriage] may bring."

Here's a great economic "argument.". If the Catholic church insists in driving politics and policies then they should be taxed.
I'll see your tax the church argument Bill; and raise you the very 1st amendment of the United States Constitution, the right of conscience and free exercise thereof, and the seperation of church and state.
The state cannot infringe on the right of the church to participate in public commerce.
Marriage corruption supporters of declared war and the laws of nature and natures God.

Like they were when they preached against slavery and supported civil rights for blacks? There's nothing like the government imposing taxes as a punishment for exercising the 1st amendment.
I know how we can persuade those mayors to cease their support for SS"M". Simply cut off the campaign contributions they recieve from SS"M" activists.
Newt Gingrich has had some great words on marriage. But those words on marriage may be weakened tremendously by his own marriage history and I can't see how he could be a good spokesman for true marriage in the context of that. The late night jokes almost write themselves.
So SOA, Marriage equality is about loving people, hurts no one and approved by a majority of Americans and can in no way compare with the fight against slavery. And as I recall in history, the RCC never insisted that the US vote on slavery or toss out politicians because of it. I can see why you are so confused. And for the record, the bible is pro-slavery, the Southern Baptist Convention was very much pro-slavery because of that.
Bill,
Marriage corruption can be compared to slavery in that once again we see a corrupt decadent minority demanding that we not only accept their depravity, but we codify our acceptance of said depravity into law.
Bill, surely you have been on this blog long enough to know how SS"M" compromises our civil and religious liberties. Your claim that it hurts no one is either a lie or outright ignorance.
And saying that it is approved by a majority of Americans is absolutely comic after SS"M" has failed 31 out of 31 referendums. What's even more funny is that you will still be making that claim even after it gets voted down by the people in Minnesota and North Carolina later this year.
Lastly, there are plenty of secular arguments against SS"M" that are in no way associated with the Bible, regardless of what kind of propoganda the main stream media has spoon fed you.
The government will never tax the Catholic Church. The political power the Church would hold would be immense. Gone United States of America. Hello Catholic States of America--do you want that Bill? As Americans we have the God given right to reject same-sex "marriages" and homosexuality. We don't have the right to reject homosexuals....
Bill, marriage exists to reward opposite-sex relationships for being opposite-sex,and treating same-sex sexual relationships as if they were of no lesser importance destroys the entire usefulness of the institution.Same-sex sexual relationships are a "friends don't let friends" type of error...to stop insisting that a homosexual remain celibate is an act of abandonment, not love.
Great stuff, SoA. Keep it up!
Maybe we should be taxing MORE the folks who are for ssm?
They seem to be NOT hurting....
Ha! This is what I have been saying all along...that JOBS are MORE important than re defining marriage!
Take that you idiot goofballs!
There was a vote on slavery. Read about the Article V process sometime.
It isn't just The Catholic Church that is against SSM. No Practicing Christian can support SSM. Anyone who follows Christ and believes in the Bible cannot support SSM unles they are lying to themselves and refusing to listen to their conscience. No Government could ever force me to accept same sex marriage or abortion. I cannot be forced to follow anyone to hell and because I believe it is morally wrong, it would be a sin for me to support SSM. I pray for the souls of those who are trying to force us to accept it.
Gingrich doesn't have to have had one single uninterrupted marriage to speak for the social advantages of defining 'marriage' as between 1 man and 1 woman. It is not him only supporting that concept, it is most people in the USA. And religion simply supports what has been shown to have good consequences in society. That civil marriage has been downgraded to simply the government supporting two persons who happen to love themselves at the moment, does not permit the civil marriage institution to function optimally. But the argument that two people who love each other should be able to get married by the State is the same argument why they should be able to divorce. If we are logical, there's no other conclusion. Legislation is separating the logical from the emotional (or delirious) arguments. If a legislature's majority cannot differentiate, then they should not have been elected.
This is horrible!!! Who are these people? There are more important thing than redefinding marriage.Let the gays handle their own confusing. Get back to the business of taking care of the american people.
Before we tax Churches, let's tax the US Post Office. It is NOT fair for the un-taxed USPS to compete with the fully taxed FedEx and UPS ... !!!!
After all, the USPS uses local roads and utilities and police and fire and EMS departments ... .
In other words, the gay agenda is for taxing religion if it practices freedom of speech or freedom of conscience that gays do not like.
If we want to protect traditional marriage we have to start our battle on much deeper level.
Some day people will realize that same sex marriage issue is just a ripple effect of a much bigger problem –ARTIFICIAL CONTRASEPTION!
Acceptance of homosexual relations is simply riding a high wave of sexual promiscuity that possesses our society. Their sexual behavior is no different than of straight contracepting married couples or singles that are engaged in random sex. When the equation of creating a future life is lost in the context of lovemaking, it becomes a simple physical act for pleasure. And we are all too familiar with problems of addiction – obesity, alcoholism, drugs. When the need for self control is gone, we began to abuse our bodies and start to self destruct.
Legalizing contraception did not bring the #s of abortions down. Instead it promoted sex as a recreational activity, lead to promiscuity, premarital sex, took parental responsibility from men, and destroyed marriage by making wives available 24/7. It destroys woman’s health by artificially suppressing natural functions of her body. It caused spread of STDs. It dehumanized the baby in the mother’s womb and allowed to kill it, by calling it a clump of cells. It took the right of fatherhood from men, by letting women to decide to keep or to kill the children they conceive together. It cuts the safety net and happiness of children in half when they grow with a single parent. Cloning, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, invitro fertilization, pornography, prostitution, masturbation, sodomia, pedophilia, rape-these are ugly side effects of our disregard for life that started to spread with the help of artificial contraception. There are just few on this list that still illegal.
Love without possibility or given chance for procreation, always turns into some form of perversion: it is sad, lonely, often abusive, unhealthy, and it always victimizes our children.
If we want to protect marriage we need to promote the culture of life!
