Keith Fourner at Catholic Online with glowing words about his friend:
There is a "Ronald Reagan" candidate in the Republican primary. He "squares the circle". He is morally consistent and politically courageous. His name is Rick Santorum. I have written extensively about his positions. I know him, his wife and their family - personally. I have followed him throughout this campaign. He is exactly what many people - just like me - have been hoping for. He is the "Reagan candidate" for the 2012 campaign - and much more. This man is the "real deal", in every way.

Except that he's unelectable.
"We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief. Nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate. All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief. At the same time as our constitution prohibits state religion, establishment of it protects the free exercise of all religions. And walking this fine line requires government to be strictly neutral."
Ronald Reagan
Jim,
That's just another thing he has in common with Reagan.
Another is that conservatives with courage will have to drag their fearful brethren across the finish line.
Reagan was horrifyingly "unelectable", so said the same types in 1979 and 1980.
Rush LImbaugh told Greta Van Susteren last night that only a true conservative can beat Obama, and that the GOP establishment are so afraid of Obama that they lowered their sights and pre-selected Romney. Rush said they are more interested in protecting their committee chairmanships, hoping that Romney could lead a Senate takeover. This type of thinking got us the moderates McCain, and Dole.
WE the people have to ignore the conventional wisdom from inside the Beltway, where Rush says there is no conservative movement, and vote for the best candidate to lead our country to prosperity and moral order. Go Santorum!
If you think a Rick Santorum can get elected, by all means, elect him as your GOP candidate!
Therr are two candidates in this election that are unelectable: Ron Paul and Barack Hussein Obama. Conservatives will be ecstatic if Santorum beats Romney because, especially considering how recent republican moderates have fared in the general elections, Santorum will beat Obama by an even greater margin than Romney, and will bring greater majorities in the house and senate.
Even ignoring his Google issue, Santorum isn't electable.
In 2006, 80% of incumbent Senators won re-election. Santorum was part of the 20%. He hasn't held an elected office since.
In 2006 Democrats defeated six GOP incumbents, including seats in PA, OH, RI, MO, MT, and VA.
Six of fifteen GOP Senators up for election lost. i.e. 40% of GOP incumbents. But some of the 60% who retained their GOP seats were in very red states (e.g. TX, MS, UT, WY), so not really vulnerable. Losing in a swing state when your party is taking a beating isn't unusual--nothing to brag about, but nothing to be ashamed of.
Not that Santorum is necessarily the electable, but the analysis of his chances based on a loss in the Democratic year of 2006 should at least be “fair and balanced,” as the saying goes.
If Rick comes in third or better in Iowa, I'm aboard.
Iowa doesn't matter as much as publicized. Santorum is a powerful, honorable, politician - of which there are very few - but would make an excellent Vice President. Gingrich is more bi-partisan, and has a better chance. When being bi-partisan starts to count, we will see what happens. Anyway, GOP people have take a good look and can make their decision. Gingrich has the next in line States already prepared. Polls is all we have to go by, up and down, up and down....
Publius: This is not year 2006, by the way; and socially very different. What happened to "fair and balanced"?
Mr Brown: For the undecided - Dr. Paul will have the Republican nomination. Why do you hate Ron Paul? Do you want constant war? Why do you want the Fed to continue to destroy our economy with more fiat money, QE inflation and secret loans? Why do we have to continue to attack all Muslim countries? Stop the wars, end the Fed and we will have prosperity without massive taxation for war. Israel has lots of nukes pointed at Iran. Why do we have to attack Iran? Do you want us to start WWIII? There's nothing wrong with peace. Let's give PEACE a try. Do Away with Military industrial Complex and all their lobbyists including Newt the Crony Captilist who caused Many Americans to lose their homes and jobs. He sold influence to Freddie and many Hospitial, Drug, and medical companys. Check out Rachel Maddox story about Newt. Michele Backman is wrong she is a real warmonger is'nt she. Maybe everyone at MSM is a warmonger! http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/nov/23/michele-bachmann/michele-bachmann-says-iran-has-threatended-launch
Mr Santorum hates Islaimic's (muslims) If you want war go ahead and smear Dr. Paul he believes Goverment has no business controling marriage of any kind. If you love your own children you had better be praying and reading your Bible try Galations 5&6 and Romans 12 how about researching the real truth concerning the churches responsiblility on this. Peace
@Little man
I agree that 2012 will be much different from 2006. The issues will be different, the mood of the times will be different, and the candidates will be different. Whether that will mean Senator Santorum will have a place on the GOP ticket or merely an electoral footnote remains to be seen. He could win Iowa or come in second or third. But Intrade currently gives him about a 3% chance of winning the GOP nomination. I admire the man, but he has put all his chips on Iowa, and will have a tough time getting an organization up and running in New Hampshire and the rest of the states. Governor Huckabee couldn't go the distance after winning Iowa. To win the nomination Santorum would need what Huckabee didn't have, a big campaign warchest, and that will be difficult to come by.
Smell that sweet santorum!
Reagan is rolling in his grave to be compared to this douchebag. Any of the candidates other than Mitt Romney would be a gift for the demOcrats
