Zoo Keepers: Gay Penguin Separation Means Survival of the Species

Canada's National Post:

Splitting up a pair of potentially homosexual African penguins and pairing them with females might sound anti-gay, but keepers at the Toronto Zoo insist they are simply trying to preserve the species.

Pedro, 10, and Buddy, 20, were brought to the Toronto Zoo this year from Pittsburgh’s National Aviary to “pair-bond” with a couple of eligible females. Instead, the pair bonded with each other. Zookeepers now report seeing the pair snuggling, calling to each other and displaying courtship behaviour.

This week, the Toronto Zoo says it will be forced isolate the pair.

“The two girls have been following them; we just have to get the boys interested in looking at them,” said Tom Mason, curator of birds and invertebrates at the Toronto Zoo.

With Pedro and Buddy’s species on the cusp of extinction, Mr. Mason insists that the Toronto Zoo cannot afford to let a season go by without passing on the pair’s genes. “If [Pedro and Buddy] weren’t genetically important, then we’d let them do their thing,” Mr. Mason said.

At 7 billion, are human's now endangered?

I'll infer that NOM would like to see gays ripped from their chosen partners and placed in caged male-female pairings for the purpose of forced intercourse.

I believe the point isn't endagerment of humans. The article is pointing out the importance and distinction between male and female. SSM activists state there is no difference when you pair male and male or female and female. Well this point out what the difference is.

    Weird Bob. That's just weird.

The point here is that sometimes human reason must be employed to protect a society from the actions of its members who are unable to or refuse to acknowledge the harmfulness of their conduct.

The penguins lack the capacity to change their behavior for the benefit of their society. Humans have no such excuse.

NOM, Adam, TC...showing desperation by thinking this article "supports" NOM...that some how, if two men are gay and allowed to spend their lives together, that it will some how jeopardize the species and threaten the ability of others to procreate. I know you straights can't survive without the intoxicating musk from the ban on gay marriage!

Some relationships are productive, others aren't. People have a right and a responsibility to support good, productive elements in society. It's a vital element of healthy society to support marriage and responsible procreation, but to suggest what Bob has intimated is just odd. Seriously odd.

So long as they are brought back together, it's worth a shot at letting them breed.

This is what NOM is using as "proof" that same sex marriage should be opposed? Penguins? Yikes. You guys really ARE grasping at straws...

Chris, its not about the end of the human race stuff. It points out a clear difference with relationship between male and female. The difference isn't something you can just make up. There is a real difference that you won't admit. The HRC has you fooled into their agenda.

OK, i'm going to reveal the gay agenda against the wishes of HOTUS. The gay agenda is...equality.

Emily, the penguins are what the homosexual lobby try to use as "proof" that same-sex relationships are not wrong, because (like so many horrible things that should not be) they are "found in nature".If you support them, why question the straw THEY grasp at?

GZeus, since the claim of equality is FALSE,your point is?

The point is that when it comes to boys and girls, separate is not "equal". Orientation is irrelevant.

I can't wait to see some happy little baby penguins...
This shows that even penguins (with a little encouragement) can make the right choice in an opposite sex mate.

So that's why that pinguin species is on the cusp of extinction - same-sex marriage take-over. As if we really cared. So,.... they didn't mention male-male -c o p u l at i o n-. Are animals stupid enough to do that? Should we pass out the Vaseline?

I have a hunch that these penguins "bonded" simply because they knew each other from the other zoo and didn't like the unfamiliar surroundings.

Actually, the fertility rate of the globe is on steep decline and has already gone below 2.2, the number for which a population can replace itself.

The big lie of the media is that the worlds population is spiralling out of control. As a matter of fact, if current trends continue, the population will increase for only about a decade, then quickly take a nosedive.

Someon told me once ( I can't vouch for it ) that The Greek Spartans, who were gay, were made to marry and have sex with their female partners who they dressed and cut their hair to look like boys.

This happened, I was told, for the "Continuation of the race"

Two Panda(s) were also placed in a zoo, and that species had sexual disinterest difficulties of the same sort as these privileged penguins. Animals in zoos often do not procreate as we would like.
