Pope Benedict XVI warned in a speech to more than one million pilgrims in Madrid that marriage is between a man and a woman and cannot be dissolved.
... "The Lord calls many people to marriage, in which a man and a woman, in becoming one flesh, find fulfilment in a profound life of communion," he told the young pilgrims.
A Vatican spokesman said on Sunday as many as 1.5 million pilgrims had gathered to hear the pope. Marriage was a project for true love, deepened by sharing joys and sorrows, and marked by "complete self-giving", said the pope.
"For this reason, to acknowledge the beauty and goodness of marriage is to realize that only a setting of fidelity and indissolubility, along with an openness to God's gift of live, is adequate to the grandeur and dignity of marital love."

I'm not a Catholic and there are things with the Catholic faith that I have issues with but I certainly agree with their approach on things like this. Good for the pope for speaking out like this. Let's just hope that at least some people listen!
Yeah let's hope they listen and start lobbying to make marriage indissoluble!
Marriage is already indissoluble. The civil authority's rejection of this truth continues to work its malevolence upon the stability of our families, our children, and our nation.
So long as divorce is legal, marriages can be dissolved. The will of the people is plain: marriage is only supposed to be for as long as it makes a person happy, not for life.
It is also clear that marriage is for uniting males to females.
Roberto: Heroin makes people happy, but not for long. It is this type of self-centered, short-term, me me me me me world view which has so terrible undermined our nation and drained it of its greatness.
Marriage is a life long commitment, not a one night stand, or a convenient concubinage for as long as it makes "us" feel good.
Its a pity that marriage has to be fought for now: to stop the gays and polygammists. Marriage is really supposed to be such as beautiful thing, uniting the two flesh and allowing the love to blossom. Heterosexual love is beautiful, whereas homosexual love is distasteful and immoral
And said right in the heart of homosexual marriage territory. Great courage and well said! Spain will never be right until it rehabilitates its marriage laws.
No animus to see in NOM's comment threads, folks... move along....
dn: Thank you for your cordial acknowledgement. Perhaps Maggie can introduce it as an amicus curiae brief.....
