An update from the Thomas More Legal Center -- which is represented the Catholic agencies attempting to stay in the adoption/foster care system without facing lawsuits alleging discrimination under Illinois' same-sex civil unions law.
It's not over yet, but this is some good news:
Today, in response to an emergency motion brought by attorneys for Catholic Charities, attorneys for the State of Illinois, Office of the Attorney General, announced in court that the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) would reverse course and resume the referral of new foster care cases to the Charities.
The Charities were also given leave to file a motion by Friday to amend their complaint both to add new claims and to add as a new plaintiff to the lawsuit the charitable arm of the Diocese of Belleville, Catholic Social Services of Southern Illinois.

The title is misleading. The article does not state that the judge ruled as claimed. Instead, it states that the AG's office decided to continue referrals to CC after the filing of a motion by CC. There is nothing in the article to suggest that the judge ruled on the most recent motion. Looks like a voluntary decision by the AG's office, not a court-required course of action. Truth and accuracy in reporting is vital to understanding what is happening in a lawsuit.
Heidi should have learned how to read and comprehend written articles. Look closely again at the first paragraph after clicking on the article. It clearly states that a judge issued a preliminary junction in favor of Catholic Charities. After this decision was handed down then the AG chose not to pursue any further.
Anyways great to see at least one judge putting the needs of children ahead of selfish self centered adult sexual desires.
No worries, Catholic charities will come around to placing children in same-sex households, since they'll want (need?) to hold on to that public money.
Heidi-why do you always get your facts wrong, try taking time to understand what you ready before opening your mouth-stop rushing to judgement on issues of important-you just make yourself seem unintelligent.
How much money is that, Robin? Thirty pieces of silver?
For the record, the judge gave a preliminary INJUNCTION, not a junction, in the week of July 11-15. CC filed an emergency motion and in court on July 18, the AG stated that DCFS would reverse course and continue referring children to CC. If you want to criticize someone else for not reading and comprehending something, it's best that you have comprehended it yourself. The judge did not rule on the emergency motion at all because a judgment wasn't needed. And Leo, if you're going to call someone out for posting something that makes them seem unintelligent, it's always a good idea to make sure your comment doesn't do the same thing for yourself.
The constituion of the united states says nothing at all about rights for peope who are perveted-hence homos or polygamists. so they get no special rights period. and the constitution says stuff about religious freedom all over it. so religious freedoms trumps so-called gay -rights.
The real winners are the children. Everyone comes into the world via. a mother & father; now these kids have the opportunity to be raised by a mother and father.
Excellent news!
Our prayers been answered!
Agreed Daughter of Eve: Children's rights come before selfish self centered sexual desires.
"selfish self centered sexual desires" - really? That is not why gay people want children. They want children for the same reasons straight people do - to form a loving family.
I think depriving the children the chance of a home because it has two moms and two dads is ridiculous. No one wants children in care - children do better in same sex families than they do in care.
I agree every child needs male and female role models, but science does not agree that they have to be the parents who fulfil this role.
Also why does everything have to be about sex, do you want children because of your straight sexual desires - no, you want them because you have love in your heart and want to bring more into the world.
Holly, not every family is religious. Are you trying to say that being religious makes you a better family? Cause I'd sure like to differ with you there and there are plenty of examples to prove the exact opposite of what you think.
I'm not religious.I think requiring sexual activity to be procreative is too much to ask.And I think requiring sexual partners to be of opposite sexes is NOT too much to ask.
Louis - Why do you care what other people do in their bedrooms. And why are you guys always so focused on sex. Really.... there is so much more that makes up a marriage.
Agreed this is not so much as a religious issue as an issue of what is best for children and the rights of children. An adoption agency putting the needs of the children first and foremost. Whatever selfish sexual desires adults want should be rejected for what is best for the children. That is why they are in the adoption business.
The rules are simple really. If you wish to adopt you must provide a mother and a father for the child in order to adopt. Same sex couples need to be rejected for failing to provide the children with a mother and a father.
It is a civil rights issue. The civil right of the child and the civil liberty of an adoption agency to do what it feels is best for the children.
" Tom: Why do you care what other people do in their bedrooms. And why are you guys always so focused on sex. Really.... there is so much more that makes up a marriage."
Sounds like you've been reading the tabloid version.
Its not about what people in do in their bedrooms.
If gays wanted to keep what they do in the bedroom there would be no issue.
Its about gays trying to get a public law to formally sanction what they do in the bedroom, imposing their gay-centric morality on the rest of society
The case Lawrence v. Texas set the boundaries.
The public has a right to formally recognize and prefer opposite sex marriage; it just cannot criminalize private homosexual relationships.
Gays, however, want the public to sanction their sexual relationships as marriage .
Tolerance has been satisfied by allowing gays their privacy.
The public should not also have to sanction men having sex with men as marriage.
Nor should we have to live under a law that forces schools to train our children to accept men having sex with men as normal behavior.
They gays are the bullies in this and we are standing up to their bully tactics.
